BOSTON - Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the liberal lion of the Senate and haunted bearer of the Camelot torch after two of his brothers fell to assassins' bullets, has died at his home in Hyannis Port after battling a brain tumor. He was 77.
For nearly a half-century in the Senate, Kennedy was a steadfast champion of the working class and the poor, a powerful voice on health care, civil rights, and war and peace. To the American public, though, he was best known as the last surviving son of America's most glamorous political family, the eulogist of a clan shattered again and again by tragedy.
His family announced his death in a brief statement released early Wednesday.
"We've lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism, and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever," the statement said. "We thank everyone who gave him care and support over this last year, and everyone who stood with him for so many years in his tireless march for progress toward justice, fairness and opportunity for all."

good riddance...
Good morning, just heard from my season citizen mother of the passing of Sen.Kennedy. Safe to say it is going to be a love fest said of him.
There are lots of likable, evil people. Not everyone likes them but they have their friends and supporters regardless of what they do or have done. Even homicide.
That’s the problem: most evil people are mostly likable (except in the movies.) Most all the time what they do is fine. It’s that last 10-15% of important actions that are evil. They’re all over Washington DC and elsewhere.
I guess there’s one less now.

I’ll eulogize him.
Ted Kennedy, the fat bloated drunkard, was born into wealth and privilege that he never deserved, given a name that brought fame and glory that he never lived up to. A man who pretended to be a “champion of the poor” while he had nothing but contempt for the people.
He was a “champion of the poor” who wouldn’t give the poor the sweat off his back. He would give them the sweat off yours though. To leftists that made him a saint.
No RIP here, instead he can Rot for all eternity in a lake of fire,.
I can’t join in the media worship that’s going to take place over the next few weeks, but I can pray that he got himself right with God before the end, and feel condolence for his family.
His passing does mark the end of an era. For their legion of faults, his generation of Kennedys—John, Robert, and Ted—were larger than life, it seemed. The ones that have succeeded him are not. When the new “golden boy” of the next generation gets himself and his girlfriend killed by his own stupidity flying into conditions he can’t handle, and the next torch-carrier in line is Patrick Kennedy? Your dynasty’s fallen a long way.

In 100% agreement. I’m actually smiling a little.
Now he gets a chance before God to confront Mary Jo and explain why he ran away and left her to die.
John.
F'n.
Kerry.
RIP
I disagreed vociferously with the man and everything he stood for in the public arena, but I cannot rejoice in his death.
The Swimmer has passed beyond the final Buoy.
why do they call him a liberal “lion” when he was most definitely either a Walrus or a beached whale?
Now now...this ain’t the daily kos.
I didn’t like him for spit either...but we shouldn’t just dwell on the negative. We should find something positive to say...like “He was a good swimmer.”
Or “At least he had insurance...”
God will now be his judge.
Oh, wait.
She won't have a chance - just as surely as she is in heaven, he's in hell.
He was a liar but RIP.
My fondest memory of the swimmer is the day I saluted him with the middle finger of my right hand as he was getting into his limo in front of the Capitol.
I too won't rejoice, but I'll not be a hypocrite. He was a despicable, moral degenerate and it's unfortunate that we'll be hearing him eulogized for eons, much like Michael Jackson.
Unfortunately scores of moral degenerates are to be found in the U. S. Congress.
He’ll be eulogized for days, weeks, (a la Michael Jackson), with no mention of the litter of destruction he left in his wake, lives ruined, women he abused, including his former wife. Not to mention Mary Jo Kopechne. I hope her family pops a bottle of champagne. (Already Obama operatives are attempting to prop up his falling numbers by linking him to Kennedy. Expect this to be the daily talking point for the MSM ad infinitum.) They’ll name the Obama healthcare bill...Kennedy Healthcare! A fitting memorial. And those opposing it will be racist and worse.

Three weasels.
It’s time to get out that bag of popcorn!
I forgot to mention that Kennedy never paid one red cent of IRS taxes, but felt no compunction about raising our taxes every time he put down the bottle.
” Go Directly to HELL! Do Not Pass Go, Do Not collect $200.00.”
Good bye, Ted. At least, in the end, you did something to help your country (you left it).
Mr. Kennedy, a disciplined liberal lawmaker with a sometimes-stormy personal life, knew triumph and tragedy during his decades near the center of American political history.
I don't know what a "disciplined liberal" is.
Mr. Kennedy, I really hope you made your peace with Christ before you passed away. God forgives all to those who seek Him.
We should find something positive to say...like He was a good swimmer.
Or At least he had insurance...
*********************************************************
I agree ,, I can say I’m glad that his Platinum plated brain tumor care has ended and it only depleted enough funds from his insurance company to CURE perhaps a dozen of us commoners of other lethal but treatable disorders.
In Ted’s memory, let’s all kick in an extra $10 so we can get this FReepathon over with.......
He has volumes to answer for, in addition to the Mary Jo senseless drowning.
What timing!
The next few weeks will be a media orgy of worship. By the time they're through dozens of towns will have erected statues and schools throughout the land will have renamed themselves after him. No doubt some congresscritter will introduce a bill to make his birthday a national holiday and all three nightly news anchors will weep and vie with one another for who can produce the most tears on TV.
It will be beyond nauseating.
I express my condolences to the Kennedy family and all I can say is they are fortunate that he wasn’t on the Massachusetts’s public health care option otherwise he wouldn’t have even lived this long. Of course, being as wealthy as he was, I am sure he will have some change for Charon the Boatman so there is something else nice I can say. I am really trying here.
I pray that he was right with the Lord upon his death.
DITTOS!
I don’t think Obama’s “vacation” is a real “vacation” — just another phase of the socialist public relations war. Yes, he will have to cut his “vacation” short because as EMK always aid, “the dream {of socialism} lives on.”
One less that we will have to vote out.
We are on a roll...
He should have been in prison long ago for murdering Mary Jo Kopechne through his cowardice.
Personally, Im glad the son of a bitch is dead.""
Well said FRiend
There's not many left and those who are have leached themselves onto government. They're just the gift that keeps on giving.
Yes, that’s why we need to keep the tube turned off. The American people though truly believe in EMK thought they would not seriously consider his for president, hedging their bets, so to speak.
You don’t think this could be an Obama head fake distraction from health care do you? sarc
Since I have nothing good to say....
That works in most social situations...remaining silent when you can’t say anything nice about someone. But Kennedy was a high ranking politician who affected the lives of every single American citizen, and not for the good. If we’re not honest about his record, we might as well throw in the towel. But okay, I won’t say another word until after he’s buried.
The people of MA disagree: they worship EMK and will for eons. Long after John and Samuel Adams are forgotten, EMK will be remembered.
.
.
bury him at sea...at Chappaquidick
FINALLY! The memory of this jerk, who did more in the Senate to screw over the USA than just about anyone else, deserves the dignity and respect rotted dog feces.
The USA is already a much better place now that loser is GONE GONE GONE.
The Kennedy family was America’s cancer. I don’t wish anyone ill, but this man was a murderer and did his best to wreck this country. I have a pretty good idea where he is right now...
