Caroline Kennedy loses Uncle Ted and Camelot dims
Examiner ^ | August 26, 2009 | Rita Watson

Posted on 08/26/2009 10:54:59 AM PDT by presidio9

As the nation mourns Senator Edward M. Kennedy, we will again be reminded of his last major political alliance -- bringing Caroline, his shy niece, into the limelight to support Barack Obama.

It was hoped that she would then follow in the Kennedy footsteps and make a push for the powerful Senate seat in New York. For a variety of reasons, she withdrew at the 11th hour. Dems embrace dynasty politics - Charles Mahtesian - Politico.com

But as the last surviving Kennedy brother, Uncle Ted still had plans for Caroline, an ambassadorship was whispered. Then came the news: "Vatican sources told Il Giornale that their support for abortion disqualified Ms Kennedy and other Roman Catholics President Barack Obama had been seeking to appoint.Vatican blocks Caroline Kennedy appointment as US ambassador ...

We don't quite know why she wanted an ambassadorship. But to read The New Yorker article suggests some strain in her marriage. But strain on marriages has been a Kennedy trademark. The intense family connections and expectations are said to have driven Jacqueline Kennedy to the Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis. However for Caroline, Uncle Ted of late seemed to be more of an anchor for her than her husband. Caroline Kennedy's Senate bid : The New Yorker

Her husband is said to be a shy man, and there has been gossip that the marriage is on shaky territory. Social Diary 6/21/06 - Dancing in the streets -- but here is another side of the man we seldom hear about Octogenarian: Caroline Kennedy's husband and me

In the wake of her Uncle's passing Caroline has lost a strong advocate. But today, this week, most people will be remembering Caroline as the little girl who stood with her mother and brother when Camelot came crashing down. For Caroline right now there is no longer an Uncle Ted. There is no ambassadorship. And there is no Camelot.

We don't know if there will be a story-book surprise for Caroline, the last survivor of what started out as a child living in Camelot. The comparison of The Kennedy Years to Camelot was a reference to the slain President's favorite musical. It was Caroline's mother who kept the myth alive. If one goes back to the Kennedy Library archives, the reference to Camelot was quite touchingly from Jackie Kennedy.

The words from the song, "Don't let it be forgot / That once there was a spot / For one brief shining moment / That was known as Camelot."

Jackie Kennedy is said to have added the words, "There'll be great Presidents again - but they'll never be another Camelot again."

While today Camelot dims, we do wish for Caroline some of Camelot's shining moments after the sadness of her aunt Eunice Kennedy Shriver's passing and now Uncle Ted is gone.

This effectively ends Caroline’s political career. That means that she will most likely go through life without ever having had a real job or accomplished anything. Even Uncle Ted served a couple of years in the military.

“For a variety of reasons, she withdrew at the 11th hour.”

Maybe because she couldn’t speak a coherent sentence fragment? Because she really didn’t have any reason to run? Because she was making too much money in a do nothing educational job?

She was such a beautiful little girl.

A box of rocks is a Rhodes scholar by comparison to Caroline.

If Teddy buying the farm short-circuits her political “career”, then it’s a win-win.

Kennedys are like coackroaches - they breed like crazy - they all look alike and they all hate America, Catholic orthodoxy, Anglo-Americans, and the free enterprise system.
One of them is planning to take the Illinois seat of Senator soon.

Since their Founder made his money from illegal bootlegging, the least you can say about these vermin are that from that perspective they are hardly hypocrites. They didn’t make their fortune the legal way through the free enterprise system - unless you consider a criminal conspiracy free enterprise - which you might, as a Kennedy.

Jo Kennedy should have been sharing a cell with Al Capone.

“For a variety of reasons, she withdrew at the 11th hour.”

Actually it was because even a friendless incompetant like Dave Paterson had not intention of appointing her. It was out of respect for the Kenedy name that she was allowed to withdraw, rather than get outright rejected. But the decision had already been made.

She was such a beautiful little girl.

The Keenedy bone structure will do that to girls. They look ok when they're young, but the jaw and cheekbones just never stop growing. The men got away with it (or usually died before it became too pronounced). The women end up looking like circus freaks, like Caroline, and her cousin Maria.

When I heard the news about his passing last, the first thing I did (before I allowed myself a single negative thought) was to say prayers first for Ted Kennedy, and then for his family.

Today, as I reflect, I am finding it hard to think of Ted Kennedy in any other place than Hell right now, as he never seems to have had any interest in taking responsibility for his multiple crimes.

I dare them to try it. We'll see if that name makes the bill more or less popular anywhere outside of New England.

Yes, I think this is appropriate. After that I think the kind of thoughts you and I had next are equally appropriate.

Evil exists and a lifetime devoted to it deserves both prayer and serious review by serious people.

I read 'em, and if they seem intersting enough, I post 'em. Doesn't seem like anybody here is going out of their way to attack Caroline in this thread. Can the attitude. Many of us have little use or sympathy for the Kennedy clan. Be happy that we're not gloating today.

Dems embrace dynasty politics

So do Pubbies (look at GWB). I think it is part of the human condition. When I was younger, I always wondered at the longevity of monarchic dynasties. Despite their tendency towards oppression, they often last a long time. I think there's considerable political "brand loyalty" built in to the average human psyche.

For every one example of a political dynasty among Republicans, I can think of four or five from the Democrats. And Chelsea Clinton hasn’t even officially started her political career yet.

I was referring to the “Examiner” article, not you personally.

And there is a lot of gloating to be seen on any number of related threads here today. So please don’t tell me to “can it”. I have no particular sympathy for Ted Kennedy, but I find this unfitting for a forum dedicated(?) to “values” - of course, this might depend on your definition of the term “values”. I know what mine are - work ethic, honesty, personal responsibility. What are your’s?

Jean Kennedy Smith is Teddy’s youngest sister and at one time held the ambassadorship to the Republic of Ireland in the nineties. She survives Teddy.

On second thought, as the liberals point their finger at honest Conservatives who are guilty of nothing other than calling it like they see it, they are also looking to transform Ted into several things he never was. Most of them are doing this not because they loved or admired the man, but because they think a false martyrdom will him the Socialist agenda.

Like Ted Kennedy, I am a Catholic Ted Kennedy called himself a Catholic when it was convient for the polls. I actually am one. We are taught that God alone is the final judge. With that said, going on what I know of the man, and his failure to account for his many crimes, I can't imagine that he is anywhere but Hell right now. He certainly did not own up publicly to the worst ones. Any honest priest would have required him to do at least that.

Obviously, that is the absolute worst thing that I can think of to say about a person, and I am saying it. I can't know for sure, but that is what I truely believe. And I hope there are some liberal lurkers still around to read it.
