I recently wrote a critique of the art communitys lack of dissent in the face of many controversial decisions made by the current administration. Entitled The Artist Formerly Known as Dissident, one of the key points argued in the article was the potential danger associated with the use of the art community as a tool of the state. Little did I know how quickly this concern would be elevated to an outright probability.
Sometime between when I finished the critique and when it went live online, I was invited by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to take part in a conference call that invited a group of rising artist and art community luminaries to help lay a new foundation for growth, focusing on core areas of the recovery agenda - health care, energy and environment, safety and security, education, community renewal.
800 billion goes a long way
Abolish the NEA
...artists eh! sounds like those stylized Soviet posters under Stalin....you know the ones that said BREAD! LAND! PEACE!...but what the people really got was SHOW TRIALS! GULAGS! FIRING SQUADS!
Maybe they’ll just get Photographers to help, which is cool because after all, photographers aren’t really artists.....I KID, I KID!!!!!!!!!!!!
(This is in reference to another thread..)

Of course we have this national socialist art forms such as this one, which emphasises group action rather than individual action, and notice the absence of any US Flag, with the Obama Logo in substitution.
People should not doubt that Obama is a fascist.
State Propaganda.
Shepherd Fairey is just the commie tool up for the gig.
Hitler did it too.
The NEA should not be able to serve as the propaganda wing for the DNC.
Art serves zee state, vare iz yer patriotism!?
They want govt healthcare for the very same reason
The NEA . . both of them . . .need to be abolished
I’m surprised they were so blatant.
Usually NEA-type art is self-indulgent splatterings of me-ness hoping to arrive at a level of interesting neuroses.
But this is a forthright appeal for more Shepherd Fairey stuff.
Did you call them on it? Nah, that would be singing to the deaf.
Arggg! My eyes! You have desecrated an almost-classic painting!
National Socialist art.
The art endorsed and encouraged by the Nazis from 1933 to 1945that is from the time when Hitler became Chancellor of Germany as head of the National Socialist Workers’ Party of Germany (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiter-partei) until the end of the Second World War.
Hitler, who had been an unsuccessful painter in his youth, realized that art could have immense propaganda value and used it to promote the cult of his own personality as well as the Nazi ideas of Nordic racial superiority and Strength through Joy (Kraft durch Freude).
Hand-in-hand with this policy went the repression, ridicule, and eventually destruction of art that conflicted with Nazi ideology (snip)
Do you have a link for this article? I’d like to send it to my dad — an artist AND a proud Convservative!
Tell your dad there will be a place for conservative artists in Obama’s administration. Someone has to paint the barracks at the gulags.
and just to sweeten the deal, we’ll make it sure it’s “legal” for you all; your finest hour is at hand; let’s toast to Leni!
“”And if you think that my fear regarding the arts becoming a tool of the state is still unfounded, I leave you with a few statements made by the NEA to the art community participants on the conference call. This is just the beginning. This is the first telephone call of a brand new conversation. We are just now learning how to really bring this community together to speak with the government. What that looks like legally? bare with us as we learn the language so that we can speak to each other safely
Is the hair on your arms standing up yet?””
no, because I’m not surprised, but my skin is crawling.
pinged you for post 17; article url is post 21
"Discussed throughout the conference call was a hope that this group would be one that would carry on past the United We Serve campaign to support the Presidents initiatives and those issues for which the group was passionate. The making of a machine appeared to be in its infancy, initiated by the NEA, to corral artists to address specific issues. This function was not the original intention for creating the National Endowment for the Arts."
To say the least!
Makes no difference your Party affiliation...America had best take Obama’s Socialist agenda seriously. He has appointed multiple radical Czars such as Van Jones and Mark Lloyd to key positions. Why does Obama have avowed Communists advising him? Obama has always surrounded himself with radicals and continues to do so.
Sitting on your butt doing nothing will make Obama’s goals all the more easy. Get involves and do something constructive to fight back before it’s too late!
