Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the political patriarch who died late Tuesday after a 15-month battle with brain cancer, will be buried Saturday at Arlington National Cemetery, close to the famed gravesites of his slain brothers.

As tributes poured in Wednesday from across the country and the world, Washington mourned the Massachusetts Democrat whose outsize personality and political skills continued to drive the health-care debate even in his final days.

Flags were ordered flown at half-staff at the U.S. Capitol, the White House and federal buildings. Across the Potomac River at the nation's military cemetery, photographers and camera crews were escorted to the flickering orange flame and polished marble gravestones that mark the final resting places of John F. Kennedy, assassinated in 1963, in the third year of his presidency, and Robert F. Kennedy, gunned down nearly five years later during his own White House campaign.

Arlington was desecrated at the time it was taken from Confederate General Robert E. Lee to be used as a cemetery for Union soldiers. Today's news go beyond desecration to the abomination of desolation!

May 14, 1983 document from the KGB archives reveals that Senator Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) reached out to the General Secretary of the Soviet Union’s Communist Party, Yuri Andropov, to propose a kind of public relations strategy to counter President Reagan’s defense policy initiatives toward the Soviet Union, policies that Kennedy felt were too aggressive.

In general, you set the bar pretty low. But JFK was a bona-fide war veteran and was POTUS.

How the swimmer rates is beyond me. They just just dump his bloated carcass into the Potomac and let it get swept out to sea. Maybe use a Buick as a coffin...

This is the ultimate insult to our Fighting Men and Women around the world who sacrificed all for this Country. We need to keep them in our hearts because their final resting places has been desecrated beyond recognition.

Some cities have “Ghost Tours” of all the supposed ghosts of years past that still walk the streets. Maybe now some entrepreneurs can give Arlington Ghost Tours of all the real heroes buried there that have gotten out of their graves so they won’t lay near Teddy.

Kennedy enlisted in the United States Army in June 1951.[9] Following basic training at Fort Dix, he requested assignment to Fort Holabird for Army Intelligence training, but was dropped after a few weeks without explanation.[9] He went to Camp Gordon for training in the Military Police Corps.[9] In June 1952, he was assigned to the honor guard at SHAPE headquarters in Paris.[4][9] His father’s political connections ensured he was not deployed to the ongoing Korean War.[4][10] While stationed in Europe he travelled extensively on weekends and climbed the Matterhorn.[11] He was discharged in March 1953 as a private first class.[9][11]

He may qualify as a senator but not from his military ‘service’. Do you recall in the 90’s when Clinton tried to bury his money man (need a name here) who had been in the merchant marine? They caught him at it and he had to back down. At that time they were quite clear about the requirements for burial due to declining space.

IIRC it was minimum grade of E-5 AND a purple heart. Teddy doesn’t qualify on either.
