President Obama to deliver eulogy at Kennedy’s funeral

President Barack Obama will deliver a eulogy at US Senator Edward M. Kennedy's funeral Mass on Saturday, a White House official has told the Globe.

Kennedy's funeral will be held at a time yet to be determined Saturday morning at The Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in the Mission Hill section of Boston. Commonly known as the Mission Church, the 1,450-seat basilica on Tremont Street was built in the 1870s. Kennedy prayed there in 2003 while his daughter, Kara, was being treated for lung cancer.

Ya, he was in the Army in the early or mid ‘50s, if I recall correctly. His father pulled strings and got Ted stationed in Paris. Rumor has it that Ted enjoyed the company of French girls and French wine when he was there.

He spent 2 years in the Army and he has family there. It’s by the book, I think, however unfortunate that may be.

His presence can’t desecrate the deserving. That’s just not possible.

First, he’s a Kennedy, and has had a burial plot waiting for him since JFK died.

Second, Medal of Freedom recipients can be buried there. Ted Kennedy received one from Obama recently.

Third, the President and Congress can authorize anyone to be buried there through legislation. Ted Kennedy already has that.

He could have "repented" in his last days. I guess we will never know. But, as far as I know, if he was never ex-communicated from the Church, he would be entitled to a Funeral Mass. I suspect many criminals have, in one way or another, had this. Think of the Mafia, many were Italian Catholics, committed horrible crimes, but showed up at church and received the Sacraments. And, had extensive funerals in the Church. I guess the Church's position is based on forgiveness and letting God be the final judge.

But, boy would I love to hear what God has to say to Kennedy at the Pearly Gates. And I hope Mary Jo is there to listen and watch. Ted can't argue his way with God!
