On another spectacular day here, the first family hopped on bikes for a beach-side ride in Aquinnah, a town on the southwestern tip of Martha's Vineyard, and a tour of the island's famous lighthouse.
Dressed in a dark shirt, Obama rode ahead of the group, which included Michelle (in an orange tank top), Malia (in a pink capped-sleeve shirt) and Sasha (wearing a bright yellow T-shirt and turquoise shorts) as locals gathered along Lobsterville Road to snap pictures.
Also in tow: Eric Whitaker and his family, Obama's brother-in-law Konrad Ng, and a phalanx of helmetless Secret Service agents -- also on bikes. Sasha had no training wheels, reporters noted, though she and Malia wore helmets, as Massachusetts law requires for those under 16. Michelle Obama also wore a helmet.

To not wear a helmet is just another example of the hubris of the POTUS. In a subliminal way, he is telling the country that the rules do not apply to him. Regardless of the helmet law in Mass., he is a symbol to his followers, and as such should wear a helmet.
On a side note, I ride over 1000 miles each summer on roads and trails on my bike. Had a crash the other day that would have caused serious head injury without my helmet on. Don’t like wearing it, especially on a 50 mile or so ride on a hot sunny day, but better than being a vegetable or worse. Come to think of it, maybe the POTUS already has suffered diminsihed mental capacity as a result of bike crash.

The major unanswered question of the day that reading public most wants to know that they know that they went for a bike ride, is “What color are the socks he is wearing”.
Only people that do not have a life care that he went for a bike ridde.
Yep, again with the ‘peace’ gear. I am so sick of it I could spit. Yes, I’ve seen all the peace symbol garbage on kids’ clothing in stores, but most of what I’ve seen is much more subtle, with tiny peace symbols and such. With Zero’s family it’s always so ‘in our faces.’ A big pox on all of them!

BO would be a good candidate for the TV program “What Not to Wear”. At least he doesn’t have a helmet on backwards like he did in a previous photo op. On the other hand, IMO, it’s not the clothes. It’s him. He looks like an idiot when he he’s on a bike or trying to throw a baseball. It’s apparent he didn’t grow up doing things like real kids do. Maybe it’s because he has no hair. What a nerd.

Dr. Eric Whitaker and Sen. Barack Obama go way back.
Their friendship began when they were graduate students at Harvard University. Now, Whitaker is one of Obama’s closest advisers.
Whitaker, 43, of Chicago, often travels with the presidential hopeful on the campaign trail and has vacationed with him in Hawaii. There’s talk Whitaker could be in line for a federal appointment if Obama becomes president.
Five years ago, Obama, then an Illinois state senator, gave a “glowing’’ reference for Whitaker to Tony Rezko, the now-convicted political fixer who helped Gov. Blagojevich find people to run state agencies. Blagojevich hired Whitaker to be the state’s public health director.
