Jobless rate hits record 5.7%; CPI continues to slide

The unemployment rate in July rose 0.3 point from June to a record high 5.7 percent, while fears of deflation increased with the latest drop in the consumer price index, reports showed Friday.
The jobless rate, on a seasonally adjusted basis, has now risen for six consecutive months, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said. The previous record high was 5.5 percent marked in June and August 2002 and April 2003.
The ratio of job offers to job seekers in July fell 0.01 point from June to 0.42 on a seasonally adjusted basis, setting a record low for the third straight month, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said.

I knew this thing was global, but I’ve been so focused on the domestic stuff I forgot that when we are not buying stuff, those countries we buy from, even the “non-China” ones, would be impacted.
My Scion xB that I bought three years ago was 100% made in Japan.
They calculate differently from us. On our basis, they’re pushing 10% unemployment.
On a related note, the head of one of the Fed banks says our unemployment is 16% not 9.4%. He let the cat out of the bag.
