A friend of mine named her daughter Malia more than 4 years ago, before Obama burst onto the national scene. She just liked the sound of the name. And she and her husband are staunch Republicans.

Needless to say, she wants to punch people when they tease her that she named her daughter after Obamas kid.

Hillary jumped to 715 from 961 during the last presidential campaign.

Of course, Hillary had been in the 200th-300th range in the 80s, and peaked at better than 150th in 1992, from where it plummeted to below 800th by the end of the Clinton administration, and off the chart (below 1000th) in 2002-and 2003.

Hillary killed “Hillary.”

“Barack” souns like the noise one makes as they are vomiting

Or the sound of an elderly man clearing the phlegm out of his throat . . . just before he enters the Death Board Interrogation Room.

It says this on the Wiki page: Barak (Hebrew: בָּרָק‎, "Lightning; Shine"), Al-Burāq (Arabic: البُراق‎ al-Burāq "lightning") the son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali, was a military general in the Book of Judges in the Bible.

Is there any relationship between baa-raq, mu-baa-raq, ba-raak, and barak?

... sorry to break the news, guys, but actually Barack is becoming a lot more popular, according to the Wall Street Journal, moving from 12,535th place in 2007 to 2,409th in 2008, and, according to the Social Security Administration, will be "well into the top 1,000 for 2009."

Barack is the sound you make when clearing thick ropy phlegm from your bronchials.

I knew a Malia when I was a girl in California. The family had lived in Hawaii for several years, and they had two daughters with Hawaiian names.

I would never name a chile anything that contained the word, mal. It sounds like a disease or something worse.

The name was derived from the sound made two minutes after chugging a can of Coke.

Mubarak means “blessed”
Barak means “blessing”
Baarak means “to bless”
Buraq or barq means “lightning”

The b-r-k root in Arabic has to do with blessing. The b-r-q root (or b-r-k in Hebrew) has to do with lightning, flashing, brilliance, etc.

Does Malia remind anyone of Maleficent, of Sleeping Beauty fame?
