Bucharest, Romania (CNS) - Madonna's stance on equality was not warmly received in Romania. The pop superstar was booed during a concert after she mentioned discrimination of gypsies and homosexuals in the country.
She told the "Sticky and Sweet" concert crowd in Bucharest, "I've never been to Romania before and I am happy to be here."
"But I found out that there is a lot of discrimination against gypsies in Eastern Europe and that makes me very sad, especially because we believe in acceptance, gypsies, homosexuals, people that are different. Everyone must be treated the same, don't forget that!"
According to Romanian Times, instead of applause, the crowd responded with jeers and boos.
Her publicist Liz Rosenberg insisted that there were also cheers, explaining that the "Hard Candy" hitmaker has been touring with Roma musicians who told her of the discrimination toward them in several countries so she felt compelled to make a statement.
There are over half a million gypsies officially registered in Romania, although the real numbers are expected to be much more.
Madonna left the country Thursday for her next concert in Bulgaria.
Poor little Miss Oink Oink. These celebs think everyone is going to buy their crap.

...good thing she was not in town for the Running of the Jews....
It always saddens me in my travels when I meet young people in foreign countries who think the likes of Madonna represent “America” and “Western Culture.”
She would have accomplished more if she had said nothing, then singled out her Roma musicians for applause at the end of the concert, then simply announced that they were Roma and left it at that.
Madonna, just shut up and do what you’re paid to do...”sing.”
She should try it again in Bulgaria they love Gypsies there.
“Everyone must be treated the same, don’t forget that!”
You first Madonna. All the body guards, gone. All your personal staff, gone. All your chefs and bottled water, gone. All your limos and pampered treatment, gone. All your VIP perks, gone.
Stupid cow. Try living your words for a week and see how it is.
She's lucky she didn't her throat cut for equating Gypsies with Homosexuals though.
That stuff just doesn't go over all that well.
Turkey as well. When I was there I was riding with a Turkish businesswoman in Istanbul she pointed out a neighborhood and said “That’s where we make the Gypsies stay.”
No, Vlad is a national hero.
“In my country there is problem...”
The first problem they faced as they entered Europe from Persia through Bulgaria was they showed up at the same time as Mongols who were busily conquering the world.
That did not settle well with anyone already in Europe.
Subsequently as the Mongols withdrew and the Moslem Turks became a threat, Gypsies throughout the Balkans were literally "enslaved".
From that point on they lived on the margins and were despised.
Eventually Europeans will get over it ~ and too bad the Romanians, Bulgars, Serbs, Croats and other Eastern and Southeastern Europeans don't understand that to the most authentically Western eye they and the Gypsies are all part of one society, and it's not viewed as all that advanced.
I LOVE it! Hey, Madonna, not everybody is a sheep or one of your worshipers. HA!
Few skanks have been impaled more...
How’s that old porcupine joke go?
According to Romanian Times, instead of applause, the crowd responded with jeers and boos.

Ouch
Tough crowd...
She forgets she’s not in the U.S. amongst her audience of spoilt brats who have nothing better to do with their time than follow her idiotic ‘rebellion’ crap.
She better keep her valuables locked up.
>>Hows that old porcupine joke go?
I give up, though my imagination is running wild. :)
Romanians and other Central and Eastern Europeans are perfectly familiar with Roma musicianship and do not need for either you or Madonna to point this out to them.
On a related note, pointing out to me that a significant number of Black Americans are accomplished musicians makes me feel no differently regarding the wisdom of going for a stroll in West Oakland, South-side Chicago, South-central L.A., the lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans, Detroit, Philly, Newark, Baltimore, D.C., etc., etc.
"But I found out that there is a lot of discrimination against gypsies in Eastern Europe and that makes me very sad"
Is this a true ( factual ) or false statement ?
If true, it says a lot about the Romanians.
Define "discrimination". When Jesse Jackson says that he is relieved to turn and find that a person walking up behind him at night is white rather than black is he guilty of "discrimination"?
She is very accepting. She’ll spread her legs for anyone.
I don't view Romanians and Roma as the same at all, any more (or less) than Romanians and Roma view each other as the same. They are two different cultures sharing the same geographic space (with some inter-mixing and assimilation). These differences are not something that the Europeans simply need to "get over". When you have one culture that makes it their business to rob, cheat, sponge off of, and interfere with another then the ones being robbed and cheated cannot be expected to simply decide they don't care.
Gypsies, tramps and thieves...
It seems perfectly natural to boo someone who supports a culture of migrant thieves.
If she had as many p##### sticking out of her as she had stuck in her, she'd look like a porcupine.
Dear, I wasn’t pointing anything out to you. And I have strolled in Philly, Baltimore, DC, etc many times without fear.
Show me a guy who is missing the point and saying dumb things while acting in a snide and condescending manner and I’ll show you a guy who is missing the point and saying dumb things.
Oh, that could be so devastatingly clever if you were addressing a guy, which you are not. You are projecting like crazy, though.
Your psychobabble and your gender confusion serve to mitigate your condescension toward Romanians and toward me not at all.
And your reading comprehension problems that caused you to launch an unfounded attack against me in the first place have been very amusing! Thank you! Have a great day!
