The 20/20 co-anchor summed up the importance of a profit motive for the health care industry to function adequately as he recounted that in Canada, private veterinary clinics provide health care for animals much more rapidly than the government-run system provides similar services for human patients:
JOHN STOSSEL: You want innovation and fast treatment? That often comes from people pursuing profit. And you see that in Canada because, even here, there is one area where they do offer easy access to cutting edge technology-
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE VETERINARIAN: -CT Scan, endoscopy, thoracoscopy, laporoscopy-
STOSSEL: -available all the time.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE VETERINARIAN: -24 hours, seven days a week-
STOSSEL: Patients rarely wait.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE VETERINARIAN: If I see a patient thats torn a crusciate ligament in that patients knee, we can generally have that patient scheduled within probably a week.
STOSSEL: But you have to bark or meow to get that kind of treatment. Want a CT Scan in Canada? Private vet clinics say they can get a dog in the next day. For people, the waiting list is a month.
ABC probably regrets ever hiring this guy, but he does too well to be fired. If this were NBC, he would have been fired long ago.
Everyone has GOT to be in DC on 9/12!!! If you have a local tea aprty, attend!
I can’t believe he’s going to last much longer at Enchanted media stronghold ABC.In the media/left hive , ideology trumps any popularity or revenue benefit Mr. Stossl’s presence may have.
I was driving home from the Tea Party Express send-off rally in Sacramento yesterday, with my dog in the car when I realized
my dog would have better health care than I would under ObamaCare.
MY DOG GETS BETTER HEALTHCARE!
HEALTH CARE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT TOOL TO IMPOSE SOCIALISM & COMMUNISM BECAUSE IT CAN CONTROL EVERY ASPECT OF OUR LIFE.
It's in our future if we can't stop the madness.
Stossel Rules!
Don’t you love the liberal’s responding that Obama isn’t proposing Canada’s system?
Frickin idiots refuse to recognize that providing care to an additional 50 million people, with no additional doctors, and “no additional cost” MEANS RATIONED HEALTHCARE!!!
Not to mention hastening one's (eventual) death. See Death Panel for clarification. It's right there on page 812, half the way down...HR 2300 Title 4, Section 12, Part A, Subsection ii - DEATH PANELS
Kudos to the sharp-eyed Freeper Haiku Guy for finding this.

I too am surprised ABC tolerates him.
But, the other 99% of the ABCNNBCBS MSM refuses to use, admit, or talk to the truth.
I'm not. Whistle-blower Stossel is directly responsible for any good ratings they get.
Your argument assumes that the 50M presently aren’t receiving health care.
Which rather conflicts with the other conservative talking point that anybody who really needs health care is already getting it.
My argument is that one cannot simultaneously claim that everyone is receiving at least adequate health care in America and that implementing Obama’s proposals would overwhelm the system.
One or the other could be true, but not both. If you contend extending health care to all will bankrupt the country, this can only be because 50M presently aren’t receiving adequate health care.
If you contend extending health care to all will bankrupt the country, this can only be because Obama’s plan is about control, not healthcare.
Look at the pricetag!
Where is that money going and why are all his union supporters exempt from the gov’t run components?
Consider the cost of the bureaucracy alone to clumsily run by fiat what the market has been running for decades.
California alone has more people than Canada. And Obummer wants a system exerting control over all 50 states simultaneously?
BS
The “50 million” who “are not insured” ARE receiving health care - when they need it. The “50 million”” number itself is a deliberate lie:
12-18 million are illegal aliens - the liberals cannot even tell how many being counted. After all, they now claim there are 3 million homeless, but can never “find them” either. They tell us there are 10 million hungry children - but cannot find anybody except fatties when the schools are checked. These are treated by government checks anyway. And, of these illegals, how many have died in the past ten years from “lack of health care” - Can you point to ANYBODY dying from “lack of health care” in ANY press report in the past ten years?
8-14 million are younger, and DELIBERATELY choose to buy videos, TV’s, movies, and games and toys rather than health insurance. But they pay their own when they need it.
8 million are rich - over 75,000.00 in income who CHOSE not to buy health insurance.
8-14 million are eligible for government health insurance (Medicaid and Medicare) but have CHOSEN not to sign up for it.
There are 3-6 million who need catastrophic insurance. So why destroy health insurance for 295 million to pay for catastrophic health insurance coverage for 5 million?
I don’t disagree with most of what you say, although I can’t vouch for all the numbers.
All I’m saying is that one cannot at the same time claim all Americans presently receive adequate care and that the additional expense of providing adequate care to all will bankrupt the country.
It’s a contention about the validity of the form of an argument, not the various numbers plugged into that argument.
I don't specifically disagree. However, it is only fair to point out that the combined staffs of all the various insurers add up to a very large bureaucracy.
The question is not one of whether we will have a large bureaucracy, it is whether that bureaucracy will be controlled by private or public entities.
Profit driven companies have more incentive to minimize the size of their management than do arms of a government that can perpetually print money.
The public option will pile on needless extra bureaucracy with its cost. We can argue about the need for safety nets, but not for friggin’ gold plated hammocks!
If you think yourself a dog , call a Vet . If you prefer to be treated like a human , think you want as opposed to need , call a private Clinic and get a CT or MRI . Cost you about 700 bucks Canadian.
When it comes to health care in Canada , Stossel fudges the truth and lies like a rug.
All socialized medical systems in the civilized world have two levels - one for the elites and one for the masses. It’s hard to believe we want to imitate such self delusional crap...
So you listen to a guy who equates Animal medicine with Human ? Really, How much respect has that guy got for you when he does that ?
All socialized medical systems in the civilized world have two levels . Maybe . I don’t really know if that’s true , but if one makes that kind of statement then it’s fair to say the part of the US system were insurance companies approve, ration and pay , has the most.
There is a Freeper who emailed me privately , who apparently has recently returned to Canada in hopes of receiving treatment for cancer. She was denied treatment at the US hospital door . Her US doctor told her what she had been diagnosed with but that was as far as he or his hospital would go.
Having been denied insurance because of a precondition , too young for Medicare , denied inclusion in experimental drug tests at Mayo , what level was she on?
