BLACKSBURG, Va., Aug. 28 -- In what has become a sadly familiar ritual, about 100 students huddled together Friday on the Drillfield at the heart of the Virginia Tech campus, weeping and singing hymns as they mourned two slain classmates.
Heidi Childs, 18, and David Metzler, 19, bright and promising students who were active in Campus Crusade for Christ, were found fatally shot Thursday morning in a national park about 15 miles from campus. Police said Friday that they had no suspects.

From Richmond Times DispatchTheir bodies were found by a passer-by around 8 a.m. yesterday in the parking area at Caldwell Fields - a campground popular with Tech students located about 15 miles from campus in northern Montgomery.Earlier, the Roanoke Times reported that Montgomery investigators had identified and were trying to locate persons of interest who had been seen in the area. Sheriff Tommy Whitt, however, offered no details
Whitt said both victims appeared to have been shot, but he declined to identify where or how many times. Metzlers body was found inside a car; Childs body was found outside the vehicle.
Its brutal. Its ugly, Whitt said.
No weapon was found at the scene, and authorities are investigating the shootings as a double homicide.
People better really start thinking about small CCW carry guns. Things are getting weird for young couples. Too many murder cases.
KelTec PF-9 or P11 are really small and lightweight.

There are plenty of other options but these guns are very small, light and inexpensive.
This one is even smaller.

You can bet the Hokie Admin leaders will continue to crusade against the evil people (i.e law abiding citizens) who own guns to protect themselves.
Death of a culture.
My mom taught with the boys sister. At least they’re in glory with Jesus and not in this he’ll hole of a world anymore.
I wonder if it was mejicans
Lock n load.
How long till the anti-gunners start saying “this wouldn’t have happened if guns had remained banned in National Parks”...
I give it a day.
First the pastor and now Campus Crusade kids...
Then again, I hardly know any of the bad guys. Of any Raza.
I doubt it. More like a Son of Sam type. Some freak who hates beautiful young couples in love.
When culprits are caught, a-g’s never follow up to point out that those folks never would have cared about the ban anyhow.
Agreed.. this is getting really bad.
Thanks for the info Frantzie.
National Forest campground. Reporters never have the facts right. This one is being held really close to the vest by the local police for some reason. Very few details has been release and they may not have any good suspects. The girl is a daughter of a State Police Sergeant.
That is the first thing I thought of when I saw the picture.
Southwest Virginia has had a lot of crazies kick off in the last 3 or 4 years. Just had a shooting like this a few miles away on the other side of the forest last year.
A woman on another board I participate in is very close friends with the family. I know from her post that they are strong Christians and have no doubt they are in glory with the Lord
“That is the first thing I thought of when I saw the picture.”
I hope it isn’t, but I got that sick feeling...especially the quote from the one cop that said it was really ugly, but there aren’t any details...they started the same way and let it trickle out...
Can you point me to the pastor death. I keep hearing allusions to it, but have not been able to find a report on it. What pastor was killed, where and why?
“”How long till the anti-gunners start saying this wouldnt have happened if guns had remained banned in National Parks...””
How long before law enforcement charges the murder/murderers (when they are apprehended) with hate crimes? Or isn’t killing a Christian couple considered one of the listed offenses in the Hate Crime Bill? I’ll bet it’s not.
The Mrs and I have for years camped up and down in that national forest, and while most people there are just great, we have met several people that made me glad I brought along my guns (to use at the nat’l forest’s fine gun ranges, of course). The most disturbing are the guys who would be considered homeless if they were in cities, but who just pull off the road and set up house. I talked to the rangers about one guy, and they said that he’d been living there for over a year. They’d roust him from one place in the forest, and he’d show up at another.
Thank you so much, Palladin. I had not seen that report. Frightening. The evil in our country grows daily worse as we grow further and further from our God. That is a strange story in some ways. I wonder about the church with no congregation. Why would she be traveling so far to the church if there was no flock? Just odd.
