Majority Rule on Health Care Reform (NYT Barf)
NYT ^ | August 29, 2009

Posted on 08/29/2009 11:59:06 PM PDT by Tzimisce

The talk in Washington is that Senate Democrats are preparing to push through health care reforms using parliamentary procedures that will allow a simple majority to prevail in their chamber, as it does in the House, instead of the 60 votes needed to overcome the filibuster that Senate Republicans are sure to mount.

With the death of Senator Edward Kennedy, the Democrats do not have the votes just among their 57 members (and the two independents) to break a filibuster, and not all of these can be counted on to vote in lock step. If the Democrats want to enact health care reform this year, they appear to have little choice but to adopt a high-risk, go-it-alone, majority-rules strategy.

We say this with considerable regret because a bipartisan compromise would be the surest way to achieve comprehensive reforms with broad public support. But the ideological split between the parties is too wide — and the animosities too deep — for that to be possible.

No, the Pubbies have finally wised up and will let the Rats own this one lock, stock, and barrel. (The Rats won’t let the GOP get a word edgewise into their bills, anyhow.)

RATS should be made aware that anything adopted under reconciliation can be REPEALED with reconciliation. And you had better belive Obamacare is going to be high on the list of things that need to be repealed.

If you have the votes to override a veto, yes. If not, the bulk of the bill doesn’t go into effect until 2013, by which time America, if we have any sense, will have a new President.

Before the obamacare turd has festered too long, Americans will want nothing else but to be rid of it.

Bullcrap, Slimes.
No wonder why your equivalent of a tampon newspaper is going down the toilet.
Dems have the votes, they don't need those evil Republicans. In fact they don't even need to go nuclear, because the wonder twin RINOs from Maine will vote with them.

Well, it can be repealed by the individual States! This is an unconstitutional act and the States do have the right to ignore this. I hope that many States finally decide that the 10th Amendment provides them with the power to ignore such unconstitutional bills.

I do think that if they try to push this through, it will cause a constitutional crisis and it should. It’s high time that the States take back their rights that they have forsaken for so many decades.

if the dems try this one the repub plan to demand the bill be read page by page and it will shut down the senate for a year.

GOP control of one house is enough to block funding of any of the mess. They will simply refuse to give any such funding their vote and that is that.

It doesn’t matter if the RATS own it lock stock and barrel.

With a well executed frontloading cost basis strategy the RATS can delay the breakdown of the United States medical system for 2 or maybe 3 election cycles, at which time the system will have become a leviathan with oevr 6 million direct or indirect employees, never to be scaled back or properly audited for the entire future of the current regime in Washingotn DC.

They will steal money from us in years 9 through 14 to pay for services for years 0 through 7.5, allowing the RATS times to push through amnesties and wait for the WWII and baby boomers to die off, ensuring a permanent RAT supermajority at the Federal level and over 38 states.

Sometime by 2024 to 2028 election cycle they will be able to rewrite the Constitution through a Convention.

Once the RATS start using the bare majority rule to push through the largest theft in the history of human history, they will never stop raiding the seed corn, nor will they continue the charade of bipartisanship.

This bill is the last bill passed in the old Republic.

Unfortunately, you will find that those same saviors will have other plans. You will find that they will just have different special interests and cater to them. I do think that they could and would overturn some of the outrageous Democratic laws - but in the long run, they would just pass other stupid laws. I don’t trust any of them with my future.

It still gets down to just what the heck is the Federal Government doing that is unconstitutional and how can we stop it. Both parties disregard the constitution - the question is how do we prevent future abuses.

A lot of RINOs have been shaken out. This is for the better. What’s left of the GOP, with very few exceptions, has kept enough self control to let the Rats destroy themselves with no aisle-reaching. If Sarah Palin remains a power in GOP politics, the worst will be staved off for at least a few more years, maybe a couple decades. If Obama was welcome back Carter, then Palin will be welcome back Reagan.

You still tend to think in Party terms. You really need to get out of that mold and think of what is best for America. Yes, Palin seems to be much more in tune with what is right and that is what makes her popular. At this point, I would support her above all others.

The problem is that there are probably less than 10% of other Republican politicians that are supportable from a idealistic (American - hey, actually read and abide by the Constitution) standpoint. That is a problem - a real problem for American Democracy. It continues to be that we elect the lesser of two evils rather than elect our Constitutional Representatives.

Until (hypothetically) Jesus Christ appears on the ballot, our choice will always be the smaller of a number of evils.

If a powerful leader emerges in a party, the whole party becomes more manageable. The Constitutional system of electing presidents has had the side effect of encouraging a two party oligarchy. Working with the system, then, means trying to buck up the more conservative of the two parties.

Yes...but here on Earth, we have a choice... Continue to elect non-responsive individuals, not vote at all, or revolt. There are three options available to us until that time comes. Until then, it is up to us to make the best of the situation and do what is right. As in olden times, it may become necessary to flay the tax collectors.

What if government single payer health care was set up 40 years ago?
Would Senator Ted Kennedy end of life care be different?
Would his life have been shortened because treatment would have been too expensive?
OR MORE IMPORTANT
Would there been a exception made for an elite progressive socialist leader?

The up and coming generation has been indoctrinated by socialists. Obama is giving a speech to all children on the first day of school the 8th, this will get kids used to following directions by him.
I myself am keeping my kids home. I will teach them about the constitution that day, we will discuss why we wanted our independence from tyranny, what tyranny is. And how we can educate ourselves and each other to avoid its spread today.

These kids can be taught, but they can’t hear just one side, they need to hear the truth. Not just what Obama and socialists want them to hear.

that depends on a few things. If they do it the way that they are talking about with a simple majority with the rules for budgets, then it wont be. because it is automatically given a sunset clause of 10 years. so they will not want to rock the boat too much. They will want as little impact as they can get so when the time comes to renew they can get a full vote calling all of us nay sayers.

If they get rinos on their side and can make it a permanent law, then I agree with you, the impact will be felt very fast.

Speaking of our up and coming generation, I'm a member of Soldiers Angels, and I'm involved in writing letters to soldiers who have requested to receive a letter of encouragement,...to let them know that we're out there and we support them. I'm also involved in the Adopt a Soldier program whereby you write/send cards and send a care package of any type to a soldier, who has requested to be in the program, for so many months. These hardworking, solid, focused men and women love this country, and believe in the USA, in freedom and liberty, and they're putting their lives on the line to protect you and me from harm, whether that threat be foreign or DOMESTIC. I do mention and reinforce that point, and encourage them to be aware of the state of affairs in our country, and that we have their backs, and look to them and appreciate their protection and all that they do. And their response to me has reinforced my faith in them and in the USA. HOOAH!

To the other members of our up and coming generation, open up your eyes and ears, shake off the muck of leftist indoctrination, remember the value of freedom and liberty, research and investigate the marxist/communist/socialist/fascist policies of this administration, and COME FOLLOW US...take your future in your own hands and reclaim our country!
