Posted on 08/29/2009 11:59:06 PM PDT by Tzimisce
The talk in Washington is that Senate Democrats are preparing to push through health care reforms using parliamentary procedures that will allow a simple majority to prevail in their chamber, as it does in the House, instead of the 60 votes needed to overcome the filibuster that Senate Republicans are sure to mount.
With the death of Senator Edward Kennedy, the Democrats do not have the votes just among their 57 members (and the two independents) to break a filibuster, and not all of these can be counted on to vote in lock step. If the Democrats want to enact health care reform this year, they appear to have little choice but to adopt a high-risk, go-it-alone, majority-rules strategy.
We say this with considerable regret because a bipartisan compromise would be the surest way to achieve comprehensive reforms with broad public support. But the ideological split between the parties is too wide and the animosities too deep for that to be possible.

No, the Pubbies have finally wised up and will let the Rats own this one lock, stock, and barrel. (The Rats won’t let the GOP get a word edgewise into their bills, anyhow.)
RATS should be made aware that anything adopted under reconciliation can be REPEALED with reconciliation. And you had better belive Obamacare is going to be high on the list of things that need to be repealed.
can it be repealed without the president?
If you have the votes to override a veto, yes. If not, the bulk of the bill doesn’t go into effect until 2013, by which time America, if we have any sense, will have a new President.
Before the obamacare turd has festered too long, Americans will want nothing else but to be rid of it.
No wonder why your equivalent of a tampon newspaper is going down the toilet.
Dems have the votes, they don't need those evil Republicans. In fact they don't even need to go nuclear, because the wonder twin RINOs from Maine will vote with them.
Well, it can be repealed by the individual States! This is an unconstitutional act and the States do have the right to ignore this. I hope that many States finally decide that the 10th Amendment provides them with the power to ignore such unconstitutional bills.
I do think that if they try to push this through, it will cause a constitutional crisis and it should. It’s high time that the States take back their rights that they have forsaken for so many decades.
They better not break that rule....it’s probably the most sane ones around.
GOP control of one house is enough to block funding of any of the mess. They will simply refuse to give any such funding their vote and that is that.
It doesn’t matter if the RATS own it lock stock and barrel.
With a well executed frontloading cost basis strategy the RATS can delay the breakdown of the United States medical system for 2 or maybe 3 election cycles, at which time the system will have become a leviathan with oevr 6 million direct or indirect employees, never to be scaled back or properly audited for the entire future of the current regime in Washingotn DC.
They will steal money from us in years 9 through 14 to pay for services for years 0 through 7.5, allowing the RATS times to push through amnesties and wait for the WWII and baby boomers to die off, ensuring a permanent RAT supermajority at the Federal level and over 38 states.
Sometime by 2024 to 2028 election cycle they will be able to rewrite the Constitution through a Convention.
Once the RATS start using the bare majority rule to push through the largest theft in the history of human history, they will never stop raiding the seed corn, nor will they continue the charade of bipartisanship.
This bill is the last bill passed in the old Republic.
Well, it’s nice that you keep wanting to work within the system - as corrupt as it is. I guess that it would at least postpone the inevitable...
If they were to do so, they would have already done it. Obama is a busy man, capisce? He doesn’t have TIME to sell this stuff to America, get on the ball man!
The communists must go! They are killing our domestic life, and killing our troops overseas with their intell leaks.
How long will we let these vampires rule us?
The Rats have proven so publicly incompetent, that we are more likely than not to see an all-GOP government in 2013. And their weightiest mandate will be to cut the bloomin’ deficit, double time. Out the window with Obamacare.
Sorry to say that you just about have it nailed. It’s going to take a Constitutional change or a revolution to change the way things are going these days... I doubt that the people have the courage to do either...
These rags are all going to go under in a year or so.
Do it you morons.
Much of the public will beyond pissed.
Negative commentary is not what we need at this time...we need positive reinforcement....we know what’s at stake and by God, we know what we will have to do to take our country back...we will do what we must if all else shall fail...This is the USA and we are not quitters....just ask our forefathers.
May God bless America!
Unfortunately, you will find that those same saviors will have other plans. You will find that they will just have different special interests and cater to them. I do think that they could and would overturn some of the outrageous Democratic laws - but in the long run, they would just pass other stupid laws. I don’t trust any of them with my future.
It still gets down to just what the heck is the Federal Government doing that is unconstitutional and how can we stop it. Both parties disregard the constitution - the question is how do we prevent future abuses.
A lot of RINOs have been shaken out. This is for the better. What’s left of the GOP, with very few exceptions, has kept enough self control to let the Rats destroy themselves with no aisle-reaching. If Sarah Palin remains a power in GOP politics, the worst will be staved off for at least a few more years, maybe a couple decades. If Obama was welcome back Carter, then Palin will be welcome back Reagan.
Hmmm... did not think of my statement as negative but I guess you disagree... You are right though we do need a community effect to change the way the country is currently governed.
I guess how we get there is up for grabs... I don’t exactly support our up and coming generation with their liberal indoctrination but may be surprised... I hope so.
You still tend to think in Party terms. You really need to get out of that mold and think of what is best for America. Yes, Palin seems to be much more in tune with what is right and that is what makes her popular. At this point, I would support her above all others.
The problem is that there are probably less than 10% of other Republican politicians that are supportable from a idealistic (American - hey, actually read and abide by the Constitution) standpoint. That is a problem - a real problem for American Democracy. It continues to be that we elect the lesser of two evils rather than elect our Constitutional Representatives.
Until (hypothetically) Jesus Christ appears on the ballot, our choice will always be the smaller of a number of evils.
If a powerful leader emerges in a party, the whole party becomes more manageable. The Constitutional system of electing presidents has had the side effect of encouraging a two party oligarchy. Working with the system, then, means trying to buck up the more conservative of the two parties.
Are they going to put it up to a vote to the American people?
Yes...but here on Earth, we have a choice... Continue to elect non-responsive individuals, not vote at all, or revolt. There are three options available to us until that time comes. Until then, it is up to us to make the best of the situation and do what is right. As in olden times, it may become necessary to flay the tax collectors.
The rule has already been broken. A few times by Republicans.
What if government single payer health care was set up 40 years ago?
Would Senator Ted Kennedy end of life care be different?
Would his life have been shortened because treatment would have been too expensive?
OR MORE IMPORTANT
Would there been a exception made for an elite progressive socialist leader?
Hello? NYT? There IS NO BROAD PUBLIC SUPPORT! Read the freaking polls. They are despicable.
Don’t kid yourself, the principles of BO-Care will be implemented long before 2013 if it is “passed!”
You mean Fascists rule don’t you slimes? Bulk of the people rabidly oppose this farce yet because you elitist scum in the DC Political-Media machine want it, anything that can be done to ram it thru is just fine with you mindless Government worshiping drones in the “news media” isn’t it?
Wow, I am sooo surprised the NY Slimes isn’t rife with outrage over the possibility of senate ‘rats using reconciliation rules to pass other legislation.
I guess they’d give republicans a pass on this, too. < /sarcasm>
I'm not so sure about Juan "call it a bipartisan compromise" McCain.
The Pubbies COULD respond by basically shutting-down the Senate. But they won’t. They’re mewling cowards. And they want our support in 2010? LOL!
>if the dems try this one the repub plan to demand the bill be read page by page and it will shut down the senate for a year.<
they damn well better.
>The Rats have proven so publicly incompetent, that we are more likely than not to see an all-GOP government in 2013. And their weightiest mandate will be to cut the bloomin deficit, double time. Out the window with Obamacare.<
I think your right about them being such a minority by 2013, but once the plan is in place taking it away will be near impossible
show them our disgust by letters, protests, vote them out.
get new leaders in who will do what we want, and if they don’t teach them too!
>I guess how we get there is up for grabs... I dont exactly support our up and coming generation with their liberal indoctrination but may be surprised... I hope so.<
The up and coming generation has been indoctrinated by socialists. Obama is giving a speech to all children on the first day of school the 8th, this will get kids used to following directions by him.
I myself am keeping my kids home. I will teach them about the constitution that day, we will discuss why we wanted our independence from tyranny, what tyranny is. And how we can educate ourselves and each other to avoid its spread today.
These kids can be taught, but they can’t hear just one side, they need to hear the truth. Not just what Obama and socialists want them to hear.
>Dont kid yourself, the principles of BO-Care will be implemented long before 2013 if it is passed!<
that depends on a few things. If they do it the way that they are talking about with a simple majority with the rules for budgets, then it wont be. because it is automatically given a sunset clause of 10 years. so they will not want to rock the boat too much. They will want as little impact as they can get so when the time comes to renew they can get a full vote calling all of us nay sayers.
If they get rinos on their side and can make it a permanent law, then I agree with you, the impact will be felt very fast.
>The Pubbies COULD respond by basically shutting-down the Senate. But they wont. Theyre mewling cowards. And they want our support in 2010? LOL!<
One senator said he would, he was from texas I think. I wrote him thanking him and told him it was the right thing to do.
they damn well better do it if they want my support in any way in the future
To the other members of our up and coming generation, open up your eyes and ears, shake off the muck of leftist indoctrination, remember the value of freedom and liberty, research and investigate the marxist/communist/socialist/fascist policies of this administration, and COME FOLLOW US...take your future in your own hands and reclaim our country!
If they do this it will be their demise. Firsty years in the political wildress will follow. The next Congress will overturn it and it will be all for naught. Beautiful keep it up Dems!
