The Kennedy Brothers: And Then There Were Non

"My fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country." – John F. Kennedy January 20th, 1961

The last Kennedy brother's death was announced on August 26, 2009, marking the end of an era in politics. Ted Kennedy, dead at the age of 77. Referred to as "The Lion of the Senate", his final battle wasn’t just in the Senate; it was also against a year-long struggle with brain cancer.

In the days following, I observed history unfolding; the motorcade escort on August 27, from Hyannisport to the Boston library, where thousands of mourners were lined to view the passing hearse and capture this moment in time. I was privy to (due to cable TV of course) the August 29 ceremony given at the Kennedy Library where 13 of his friends, colleagues and family members shared heartfelt and even humorous memories of their Teddy.

These past few days I have watched documentaries about this captivating and incredible family, the Kennedys; Headliners and Legends, with Lestor Holt, The Kennedy Brothers, narrated by Chris Matthews, and the most compelling: the HBO documentary, Teddy in His Own Words.

Christine Lakatos you have not been paying attention. The Kennedy clan adopted Bama as the surviving Kennedy brother, as is being reported.

Maybe someone can supply Bama that lion skin used in Eddie Murphy's movie that king out of Africa wore, to demonstrate his Kennedyness.

Ditter, disagreement is just fine and I don’t get my feelings hurt - I like discourse, nothing more, nothing less.

An Irishman named Frank Costello? Doesn’t sound too Irish to me. There was a real Frank Costello that was a member of the the Luciano/Genovese crime family.

That's because the original 12th-century Gaelic name was MacOisdealbhaigh. Gaelic was usually Anglicized when the Irish migrated to Britain, the U.S. or Canada. The "Costello" spelling could have originated in Italian, but it was applied to Irish named MacOisdealbhaigh.

“The Kennedy Brothers: And Then There Were Non”

Chris Mathews annointed Obama as the last (Kennedy) Bro.

I’m sorry for your good friend. She needs a better education in what lay behind this atrocious travesty.

Uh, Teddy, you’re the only one not looking at the camera - busy ogling somebody?

Thank you for the unintentionally comic line of the day.

I'm sure your Irish must be right, but their spelling is really something.

"Costello = MacOisdealbhaigh."

Those Irish Gaelic spellings really are complicated, aren't they? Here is a comprehensive list of Irish surnames in the original Gaelic.

What if Uncle Tedward had been bald?

If he didn't have those big teeth, and that full head of hair, I doubt he would have been called a lion - no matter what he did in the Senate.

It's unfortunate that the Kennedys spent those years in England. The family picked up the notion that they were a royal family and, thus, had the right to take money from the commoners and hand out the goodies to their favorites.

Simple question — Did folks in the Kennedy family have many black friends or in-laws which they hung around with?
