Obama has argued that elected presidents have a right to continue ruling even if they violate their country’s constitution, and his assistant secretary of state argued that presidents should not be removed without elaborate “judicial process” (an argument at odds with our own Constitution’s provision for legislative impeachment, and Honduras’s constitutional provision automatically stripping presidents of their office if they even propose changes to constitutional term limits).

Zelaya was scheduled to leave office in two months, but had tried to change the constitution to make himself dictator for life. I get the feeling that Obama wants to do the same thing here.
I really don’t understand why the Republicans aren’t screaming loud and clear on this one. Obama’s shown his true colors for months here, trying to bully Honduras into a satellite of Cuba, Venezuela and all things Marxist.
Why, oh why, aren’t they forcing this issue?

I am appalled to read that Hondurans will be denied US Visas! Their Supreme Court and Congress legally removes their president for attempting to override their constitution and this is the US response? Please help reverse this decision!

One of the reasons Obama's polls are plunging is that the people now see that his socialist policy actions belie his words. This is an issue that could be pointed to to further expose his his perfidy to the masses. Obama abhors capitalism, and that hatred is what is behind everything he's done thus far.

Yes, the media have outright lied about this over and over. About as honest coverage as I’ve seen offered the justification that while it was expressly against the Honduran constitution, that clause in their constitution was written to catch the other side, not the Leftists.

Just a coincidence that Obama has injected his own legal opinion over the foreign one in a way that would justify an override by his own presidency over our other branches of government. The fact he would have complete control over our government is completely absurd. Isn’t it?
If he manages to reverse the constitutional outing of a president by force and establishes his view as international law. If he manages to use international law to justify his own unconstitutional actions. If those actions are supported in part by his new legal appointee that would agree that the Honduran precedent is to be respected. These are thoughts for a tin foiler and mere coincidence. Aren’t they?
I’m sure the two parallel paths are mere coincidence and nothing to be alarmed about.

The OAS Foreign Ministers mission is in Honduras seeking support for the San Jose Accord, which would restore the democratic and constitutional order and resolve the political crisis in Honduras. In support of this mission and as a consequence of the de facto regime’s reluctance to sign the San Jose Accord, the U.S. Department of State is conducting a full review of our visa policy in Honduras. As part of that review, we are suspending non-emergency, non-immigrant visa services in the consular section of our embassy in Honduras, effective August 26. We firmly believe a negotiated solution is the appropriate way forward and the San Jose Accord is the best solution.
