We still laugh about that gun and how bad it was. A web site here that disagrees with you on the quality of those weapons. They rate it as both very accurate and very durable .. a very good design. There is a notation that during the war, manufacture of some Carcanos was jobbed out to companies not traditionally weapons makers so some they have found to have poor "fit and finish" but that was a very small percentage of them. Maybe that's what your brother had.
