Former EBay CEO Meg Whitman -- who's been under fire for skipping political debates and reporters' questions -- won't be attending a September Silicon Valley Leadership Group forum billed as the first major gathering of California's 2010 gubernatorial candidates.
The SVLG event, titled "Leadership California: Solutions from the Innovation Economy,"' will include the two Democratic candidates, former two term governor and current State Attorney General Jerry Brown, and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom. And there will be just two Republicans -- State Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner and former Rep. Tom Campbell at Projections 2010, which will be held Sept. 16 from from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University of Santa Clara.
Whitman won't be present, her campaign says, because she's scheduled to appear at the 3-day Fortune Magazine "Most Powerful Women" Summit at the Four Seasons in San Diego that week. (Whitman is one of several dozen speakers on the agenda; she'll deliver a 20 minute speech at 10 a.m. on the conference's final day.)
Same morning, California's other gubernatorial candidates will star on separate panels addressing 2010 state issues that include infrasture, transportation, environment, economy, housing and workforce. They'll take questions from journalists -- as well as participating CEOs and non-profit leaders, the SVLG says.
Bottom line: Whitman didn't appear at the first Poizner-Campbell debate at the Sacramento Press Club several months back. And so far she hasn't said she'll participate in an October debate in Orange County, though both Poizner and Campbell have already agreed.

Four liberals. Where are the Conservatives ?
You might find one on Oklahoma, or Texas.
Have you seen the leading candidates running for TX Governor next year ? RINO Perry and slightly-more-RINO Hutchison. TX needs almost as big an enema of their exec branch as CA.
Yep, didn’t mean current RINO Crop, but I am sure there are some conservatives there somewhere. Oklahoma voted Red in every single precinct, not one was carried by Obama. Oklahoma is still dominated with Roosevelt Democrats, they are Conservative but don’t know it.
Actually, it was a nice Republican Blue. Red's the Commie rodent color (I won't use those post-2000 Orwellian newsspeak colors, it's offensive to my sense of history). OK now has a GOP majority legislature, but we have to get rid of the overrepresentation of Dems at the statewide level (and Dan Boren at the Fed level). 2010 should see us send those "real Reds" packing.

No thanks, Meg!
