Here's a weird little piece of late-breaking news about the nation's healthcare reform debate:
A 65-year-old man at a Wednesday night California rally supporting President Obama's embattled reform ideas had a finger bitten off during a scuffle with anti-reform protesters. a Little Finger
Ventura County sheriff's deputies were called to Lynn Road and Hillcrest Drive in Thousand Oaks near Los Angeles, according to TV station KTLA.
There, an estimated 100 supporters of healthcare reform affiliated with MoveOn.org had gathered as part of a nationwide array of pre-Labor Day rallies to attract attention in support of Obama's reform plans currently before Congress.
Instead, the rally attracted the attention of a group of anti-healthcare-reform protesters across the street.
Initial police reports say that one pro-protester moved into the group of anti-protesters.
Some angry words were exchanged.
One protester punched another, a witness told KTLA.

If you read the Yahoo/AP story, the reporter makes a point to include that someone from the hospital reported that the victim has Medicare. First, didn’t the person at the hospital break the law in disclosing private information and second, why would it matter what kind of insurance he had! He wouldn’t have needed it if he didn’t get attacked by an Obama crazy!
Mike Tyson would be proud.

A spokeswoman for MoveOn responded to an incident this morning in which a supporter allegedly bit the finger off a conservative demonstrator amid a health care-related fracas in Ventura County, calling the violence "regrettable."

It would be illegal for a hospital worker to give any information about a patient. Either a hospital worker broke the law, or the reporter is lying. I'll go with door number 2.

A guy just called in on Rush’s show and he was at the scene of the finger-biting incident. He and his friends found the elderly gentleman’s finger and took it to the hospital to be reattached.

For years, I have walked with my Oregon wading staff. It is just under 5’ long, a little over an inch in diameter at the top and about 1/2 inch at the bottom. It has a nice wrapped handle/grip with an attached 3.5’ 150# tensile cord which is then attached to my fly fishing waders with a nice size metal snap or for other uses.
We have people, who like to let their dogs run amok with the old saying “He won’t bite!”.
My reply is, “He won’t get to bite me, and you will get the same if he tries !”
Suddenly, they call in their semi feral critter and grab him/her until I get way past them.
So get a nice aged hardwood walking staff. They are great for old codgers with bad knees and for other uses.
Both the MoveOn thug and the Patriot will probably be charged. The thug came charging across the street when he saw the Patriot “shooing” the female Moovie to go back on their side. Words were exchanged. The Thug bit the Patriot’s finger off, and said Patriot punched him hard. I would have done the same.
I was at the West Los Angeles rally and MoveOn had a very large turnout (as usual). But I am happy to report that our folks made a great showing!
MoveOn came over to our corner, but in fairness, there were Patriots going over to theirs. I don’t favor that except in certain circumstances. It would have been better if all the Patriots took two corners and left the others to the Lefties. Safety and visibility in numbers is the main thing when getting our message out.
