EVERETT, Wash. Two radio station towers toppled after someone used a piece of heavy equipment to knock them down.
Everett radio station KRKO's General Manager Andy Skotdal says a sign left at the scene Friday says ELF, likely a reference to the Earth Liberation Front.

I first thought this station HAD to be a Rush-Beck-Savage affiliate. But they are all-sports. Somebody out there must REALLY hate Dan Patrick and Class A Minor League Baseball play-by-play!
About a year and a half ago, a tower from a defunct station in Johnstown, PA was STOLEN! The thieves actually had time to take the tower down, cut it up and haul it away unobserved. Supposedly stolen for scrap metal value.

They are trying to stop Talk Radio, no doubt commands comming straight from our “Green Czar”

There was a big controversy over those towers when they were proposed. One thing is they’re on the extended center line of runway 15/33 of Harvey Airfield. There was a safety issue there since now Harvey has a GPS approach ... just waiting for some plane to shred themselves through their guy wires on a foggy night.

Hmmm.
Maybe a disgruntled or safety-minded civil aviation pilot?
The civil aviation pilots I know would be smart enough to blame it on ELF and would probably giggle about it (and also are smart enough to keep quiet and have an alibi!).

Nobody on the hill or surrounding area wanted those towers. The radio station modified their plans and only put up I think two rather than four towers. Their claim was to reach out to a larger audience in the area but not that many people listen to them. They do talk radio, local sports and FOX sports so I think they’re conservative ...

“We have to weigh our priorities, and the local ecosystem in Everett, along with the local residents, do not need additional sports news radio station towers that come at the expense of reduced property values and harmful radio waves,” ELF press office spokesman Jason Crawford said in the e-mail.
Sounds as if some corn nuts need a little more time in the sun.....
To: Zeppo
Yep, loosing 2 towers in a phased array feed can reek havoc with the radiation pattern. No “tuning” that out.

The civil aviation pilots I know would be smart enough to blame it on ELF and would probably giggle about it (and also are smart enough to keep quiet and have an alibi!). That's a diabolical conspiracy theory. If it's true and you know them, they must be your enemies. I bet that would carry some heavy prison time.
However, if an ELF got caught they would prolly only get a citation to appear for misdemeanor civil disobedience ! [/sarcasm]

looks like whoever was operating that trackhoe may have had experience, pulling the legs from the side, (thats where the power is with a hoe), Or else they got lucky, Dark angels watching over them I guess.
CAT, and the contractors, really should start issuing coded keys for their heavy equipment. All the keys are the same to make it simple for the operators and maintenence crews.
I could walk up to just about any machine and fire it up with the keys I have. Somebody could just get the operators manual inside the cab and find all the controls pretty quick
Some smart contractors add steel plates with padlocks over the cab doors and windows

This was on the local news tonight. Some ELF guy was saying how the radiation waves harm the animals!
A local couple heard the crash. The lady said she didn’t like the towers, but that vigilantism wasn’t the way to go. Her husband said “I’m not in her camp. I think action is needed. A little bit of a Boston Tea Party.”
Not sure where he gets the idea that destroying private property is anything like protesting governmental control. Oh how I wish these ELF folks would go torch this guy’s home that is sitting in this same, picturesque valley with Gaia’s little creatures being assaulted from all sides.
