“Meet the Press” finds the big lesson in the Van Jones story: You can’t trust the Internet
Hot Air ^ | September 6th, 2009 | ALLAPUNDIT

Posted on 09/06/2009 4:03:30 PM PDT by rvoitier

You have to see it to believe it. The singular lesson of the past week, after big media failed to uncover Jones’s Truther past and then actively suppressed it when it broke online, is that they can’t be trusted to chase stories that are inconvenient to The One — especially if doing so would burnish Glenn Beck’s credibility. And yet here they are, through two of their priestlier representatives, warning the public that only a fool would play in the “open sewer” that is the Internet, where lies and smears and video clips that the networks won’t show of Obama administration officials calling Republicans “assholes” flow insidiously onward. Plenty of viewers will believe them, too: Remember, for many, their first taste of the Van Jones story came this morning, and no sooner did they hear about it than a trusted figure like Tom Brokaw appeared to dismiss it as a smear campaign. You couldn’t script a more Orwellian ending. Friedman actually goes so far as to call this a cautionary tale about how everyone’s a potential target in the age of mass media. Hey, Tom? He’s a Truther in charge of $60 billion in taxpayer money. We’re not talking about some alderman here who got caught saying something off-color at the Dairy Queen. Quoth Jonah Goldberg: “What a tragedy that fewer people will support cop-killers and anti-American conspiracy groups because of poor Van Jones chilling effect on the culture.”

Ah! So the exposure of Van Jones is, itself, an excellent excuse for Cass Sunstein to take over the internet?

Makes perfect sense -- in lala liberal land.

Great quote from Jonah Goldberg re: tom Brokaw on this subject...
Van Jones & Obama's "Centrism" (Jonah Goldberg)… The Corner ^ | 6 September 2009 | Jonah Goldberg
“……………Update: Oh and the conversation between Tom Brokaw and Tom Friedman about the lessons of Van Jones was a complete scandal. One of Friedman's key take-aways from this whole affair is that too many people will self-censor themselves so they can get government jobs. What a tragedy that fewer people will support cop-killers and anti-American conspiracy groups because of poor Van Jones chilling effect on the culture.

Oh, and listening to Friedman and Brokaw disparage the internet as a useless news medium, makes them sound like cranky old monks lamenting that flash-in-the-pan printing press.”

The really “big lesson” is why didn’t the bobbleheads in the state run MSM come to the defense of Jones if he was being “smeared” and “lied” about on the internet? This didn’t happen overnight. Obama’s eunuchs could have saved Jones’ ass had they the courage to do it. However, the MSM realized that he was a loser and a liar just like them and they could not come up with a defense to save him.

LOL! It really has been sucking badly, and progressively more badly. Brokaw does manage to cure my worst bouts of insomnia, however. I've caught the first 3 to 7 minutes of the show several times lately.

Seriously, I have been TIVOing it out of morbid fascination.

Brokaw and Friedman are lamenting that there was once a time when if THEY didn't want anyone to know someone was a radical, communist leftist who openly supported a cop killer, nobody would know.

Now they're bitter, washed-up has-beens whose best days are behind them. Used to be that everyone in the country had to see Brokaw every night at 6:30 EST. Now, most wouldn't know him from a hole in the wall, and those who do know him couldn't give a flying cr*p what he thinks about anything.

Put some ice on it Tom.

Meet the Press, it’s producers, directors, and participants, are ludicrous. They listen uncritically to a paid mouthpiece and publicist for the Administration, David Axelrod. Yet, they cannot point to a single lie or distortion in anything that was reported about Jones on the internet. Jones should have lost his jobs because of the facts - what he said and what he did. The news media should have reported these facts, if indeed they were interested in journalism. They are only interested in exchanging silly sentimentality with Democratic politicians. Enough of this nonsense.

(snicker)

And if you do vet them and conclude that they can’t pass the Senate — as almost certainly happened with Jones — then just make them a czar and the problem is solved. It’s not like Tom Brokaw or Tom Friedman is going to hassle you. Exit quotation from Glenn Beck: “The American people stood up and demanded answers. Instead of providing them, the Administration had Jones resign under cover of darkness.”

Ohhh, that's gonna leave a mark...

These people are absolutely criminal. They are abusing the power of the press to push outright propaganda for 0bama and the Demonrats. And it is so easy to refute, but I find it astounding they try to push this story as a smear and all that BS and obviously they are hoping the public doesn’t dig too far and find out on their own. It will and has gotten out enough where it is posing a danger to all of them and it’s about time. But an all-out war needs to be declared against these criminals. Conservatives and Republicans need to be more in their face and call them on it and not let them dictate. There is no legitimacy with these fascists. They are one in the same and have no credibility and think they are going to silence dissent in the only forum that actually has any credibility.

Funny how we can’t trust it anymore. Gee, we trusted the internet and bloggers when TV’s Carrie Bradshaw was a blogger in ‘Sex in the City’ and blogging was all the rage, set up the new movie about Julia Childs’ life, we trusted it for our Hollywood gossip, we trusted it when the Daily Kos and DU helped ‘keep the faith’ during the Bush years, and during the Kerry/Edwards campaign when it got the word out, but now, now, it’s suddenly untrustworthy? Yeah, okay. *more painful eyerolling*

Cass Sunstein's wife, Samantha Power is someone to investigate thoroughly as well. Let's just say Samantha has an interesting background. She had to resign from Obama's campaign when she called Hillary Clinton "a monster". So what does Barack Obama then do after winning the election? He appoints Samantha to the National Security Council. No conflict with our Secretary of State - of course not./s

Excerpt:

In a March 6 interview with The Scotsman, she said: "We fucked up in Ohio. In Ohio, they are obsessed and Hillary is going to town on it, because she knows Ohio's the only place they can win".[18] [19] "She is a monster, too — that is off the record — she is stooping to anything... if you are poor and she is telling you some story about how Obama is going to take your job away, maybe it will be more effective. The amount of deceit she has put forward is really unattractive."

Power apologized for the remark on the night of the March 6 interview, saying that they "do not reflect my feelings about Sen. Clinton, whose leadership and public service I have long admired." The next day, in the wake of reaction to the remarks, she resigned from the Obama campaign. [20] Soon afterwards, the Weekly Standard said that it "might have been the most ill-starred book tour since the invention of movable type."[21]

Following her resignation, she also appeared on The Colbert Report on March 17, 2008, saying, "can I just clarify and say, I don't think Hillary Clinton is a monster...we have three amazing candidates left in the race." When Power later joined the State Department transition team, an official close to the transition said Power had apologized and that her "gesture to bury the hatchet" with Clinton had been well-received.[22] Power attended Clinton's swearing-in ceremony on February 2.

After the 2008 presidential election, Power returned to Obama's team, becoming a member of the transition team, working for the Department of State. [23]

In January 2009 President Obama appointed Power to the National Security Council, where she will serve as director for multilateral affairs.[24]

Thing is that it just does not matter what the media says or does these days. They either leave out pertinent facts, spin the facts, or ignore the facts... You have to really hunt for the truth on the internet. Their “fact checkers” are way too busy trying to debunk the internet rather than do actual fact checking...heh.

I was screaming at my TV by that point, and turned it off. I was fuming.

I never watch that idiotic show, but I spent the morning flipping channels to see if any of the MSM would cover the story. Fox hit it hard and straight. The others buried it deep in the hour. On Meet the Pravda, the two points were, “you can’t say anything controversial and “the internet is full of lies”. They made sure to completely fill the time so Giuliani couldn’t raise any true points such as Van Jones self-identifying as a radical communist.

I only watched to see how the enemy would spin it, and they didn’t let me down. Anybody who doesn’t see the EXTREME media bias since they buried the tea parties outright, is wilfully blind.

That's right. Ex: Mary Mapes, Rathergate producer interviewed by ABC's Brian Ross:

Mapes: "I’m perfectly willing to believe those documents are forgeries if there’s proof that I haven’t seen."

Ross: "But isn’t it the other way around? Don’t you have to prove they’re authentic?"

Mapes: "Well, I think that’s what critics of the story would say. I know more now than I did then and I think, I think they have not been proved to be false, yet."

Ross: "Have they proved to be authentic though? Isn’t that really what journalists do?"

Mapes: "No, I don’t think that’s the standard."
— ABC’s Good Morning America, November 9, 2006.

I could watch a show anchored by a lib if he/she were at least interesting, intelligent and retained some shred of journalistic instinct. Brokaw, however, is a crushing boor, unintelligent, uninformed, and seems utterly unconcerned about breaking news.

The execs at NBC who put this flagship show in his hands absolutely MUST have been (and must still be) on a crack binge.

On second thought, though, consider the NBC stable. Who were they going to turn to? Stone Phillips? LOL!
