Barone: Is the Post's campaign to 'Macaca' McDonnell sputtering? (2009 Virginia Gov)
Washington Examiner ^ | 09/07/09 | Michael Barone

Posted on 09/07/2009 5:07:27 PM PDT by HokieMom

In my previous blogposts on the Washington Post news pages’ campaign to “Macaca” Virginia Republican governor nominee Bob McDonnell by running story after story on McDonnell’s 1989 Regent University thesis—Republican Governors Association operative Nick Ayers has noted 34 such pieces, including articles, blogposts, cartoons, editorials and on-line chats—I have purposely refrained from citing opinion articles, since after all opinion writers can legitimately try to influence readers and readers are on notice that this is so.

But I’ll make an exception here for Metro columnist Robert McCartney’s Sunday analysis in which he argues, persuasively, that the McDonnell thesis isn’t likely to move many voters to support Democratic nominee Creigh Deeds.

Nice to hear that their attempts to “macaca” McDonnell aren’t working.

That macaca thing with George Allen was so stupid. The Post ran numerous articles to “educate” voters as to what macaca meant, because nobody knew what macaca meant.

So let’s hope that they can’t go to the well again with smears against candidates that aren’t liberal enough for the Post.

I’m hoping those who bailed on George Allen regret their decision and will come home.

Macaca is the stuff newspapers mix into the ink to get it to stick to the paper.

It's produced in the bowels of special monkeys that live in the top of trees in Brazilian jungles. Indians gather it at night!

No change, it made no dent. Epic fail.

George Allen could not have done a worse job handling that assault than he did.

It was painful to watch.

Very painful. Still hurts for those who thought he’d try for the White House.

True. I thought he might give it a try. Not a chance in the world after the Trent Lott like apology tour.

Amazing, isn’t it? The WaPo used an imaginary word “Macaca”, uttered only once by George Allen, to destroy him, and thus deliver the Senate to the Dems in 2006.

I have called it the “Macaca Majority” ever since.

God willing, we’ll see those slimy b@stards at the WaPo get the “reward” they so richly deserve.

It’s still awhile until Election Day, so still a little nervous here. McDonnell has been traveling all over in an RV and running positive, issue-oriented ads. I’ve been following his posts on Facebook.

The WP is trying hard to make it happen again. They think they own this place.

I hear the Washington Post is still trying to get Obama’s thesis and writings as President of Harvard Law Reviews.

((LOL!! Sometimes I just kill me. ))

Yup.
In the end, George Allen did more harm to himself than anything the Washington Post could have done to him. It's still painful to think how he manged to turn a sure fire win, into a loss to a disgusting candidate that writes depraved gay child porn.

The WP is trying hard to make it happen again”

The WaPo just don't get it do they?
You can't use the same old trick twice on a wide awake person and expect to succeed the second time.
More importantly, the political climate right now is vastly different than in 2006. The Democrats are on the run, voters want to kick the Democrats out of the congress, and Republicans are on the rise. The political climate right now, simply doesn't favor a “macaca moment” against Republican candidates.

There’s a certain segment of the voting public that’s so fickle of course the WP will try again. A few smackdowns in a row should fix that.

In his hyperactive age, without a viral YouTube video, there can be no “Macaca Moment”.

I was just watching a YouTube video on McDonnell’s site. Two minutes in, it’s evident they put a lot of stock into yard signs at a parade in rural Buena Vista, Virginia today.

Sorry, I am not following this race closely.

Could you please help educate me if McDonnell is a true conservative? His campaign site is not the best source (I am skeptical of politicians).

Thank you!
