Barack Obama is set to become the first-ever U.S. president to chair the United Nations' 15-member Security Council when it meets later this month.
The council, which next meets Sept. 24, deals with a host of global challenges, including nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament. The Obama administration hopes to use the month-long appointment to emphasise a departure from the Bush administration's strategy of pursuing its own unilateral policies through the council.
Obama will join other heads of government in New York during the week of the nuclear summit for the opening of the 64th session of the UN General Assembly. Climate change and the Middle East peace process will be on the agenda for the wider body. Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, under fire for wining the freedom of a terrorist convicted of killing 270 in the Lockerbie bombing, is due to be on hand and could turn the session into a spectacle.
The State Department has not ruled out the possibility that Obama and Gaddafi would cross paths. They are both due to address the General Assembly on the same day, and the Libyan leader, whose country is a temporary member of the Security Council, is entitled to attend the nuclear summit session that Mr Obama will chair.
Will he tax the chair first?

If I was a fundamentalist Christian (which I’m not) I’d be asking myself: is it just me, or are we living in a time of unusual prophetic fulfilment?
1. The US has elected a President before whom all nations bow down (or at least they do according to his grovelling sycophants in the American media and the BBC). A man of great oratorial skills yet possessing a smoothly anonymous personality…
2. Technology now allows the state to monitor every inch of our neighbourhoods AND our bodies, without us even being aware of the fact…
3. The United Nations wants a new global currency to replace the dollar, as the Telegraph reports today.
This, surely, is the clincher. I mean, how many Signs of the Times do you need before you decide it’s time to take a fresh look at the last few pages of the Bible?

Not only does he apparently not have a cabinet or secretaries to speak on policy, he doesn’t have a UN ambassador either.

If I’ve read it right, looks like he even set up the agenda for the meeting. How is the chair selected? I can’t seem to find that info.
It was my impression that none of the permanent members of the security council could have someone from their country chair the Security concil. Did the rules change for Obama?
While Obama chairing the UN Security Council might stoke his monumental ego, it will not play well at home were the UN is a best suspect and at worst reviled. Doesn’t Obama have enough on his plate with the US economy in the crapper that he can now take over duties at the UN too? I would think that this move would even cause many Democrats to flinch as it gives Republicans another hot button campaign issue.
This will please the small percentage of the American public who still believe the U.N does something meaningful.
If the chief clown accepts the UN chair position, he will be in direct violation of Article 9 of the US Constitution.

Why is this not bigger news????—or even being discussed on Rush, etc.?? I can’t send around as my lunch hour is ending & I have to leave computer, but I wish someone would share this with Rush, Beck & Hannity!

I don’t know if it’s legal. Presumably. However, would that matter? No one seems to be covering it. I’m wondering if it’ll be in Beck’s program because this news seems to dwarf anything related to Czars or healthcare by a long shot.
Hopefully he will cover it tomorrow, maybe rush tomorrow. This just really came in under the wire. Amazing how these things break late at nite—VOA had it on at 11 p.m. Sort of like the Van Jones thing—they break it at midnite on Sat?

I used to think that too, but until the antichrist is indwelt by satan, he might not be much more than a mere mortal, as is anyone else. He will probably not need a teleprompter after satan possesses him. Before? Not so sure. The antichrist is not described as supernatural until the 2nd half of his reign. The first half, he's just a human being who seduces the masses with sugary words and ideas. JMO.

Perhaps we are the enlightenned few—just really scary to me that conservatives and libertarians are not seeing the red flags here. Think what he can do to Israel?
In audio released this week, we heard Van Jones all but calling for the non-existence of Israel, and let’s face it, BO and the Missus are on the same page with VJ in everything, they just have been much more careful. My wife is a Messianic Jew and keeps up with all things Israel, so we shall see.
Missed the audio ov Jones, but not surprised. I am on the Middle East Terrorism ping list, which covers Israel and the area—will be interesting to watch this unfold, but I hope more get a clue!
Anymore news on this. Hate to have this important story get lost in the shuffle—I think it is huge—far more important than Pres. Speech!
