Gay Christian Billboards Spark Controversy in N. Texas
KRLD Newsradio 1080 ^ | 09/09/09 | krld.com

Four billboards along Interstate 30 are sparking a debate over whether gays should be welcomed at local churches. A coalition of five churches that are part of a larger congregation of prodominatly gay Christians have put up four billboards on I-30 between Grand Prairie and Fort Worth with messages urging Christians to accept gays. One billboard reads "The early church welcomed a gay man" and another reads, "Would Jesus discriminate."

Reverend Colleen Darraugh with the Metropolitan Community Church of Greater Dallas tells CBS-11 exclusively they've been the target of controversy since the billboards went up last week.

"There are people who have told us to re-read our bible, which is the very question we're asking others to do. We've had people say how dare you take the name of God in vein," Darraugh said. The billboards will be up through the end of the month.

“Sinners are always welcome”

That’s good... or else churches would be awfully empty.

Homosexuals would be welcomed in my church, they wouldn’t be allowed to join as members without repenting of their queer behavior.

Christ forgave the woman at the well...and the part that most leave out was that He said Go and sin no more.

Everybody should be welcome in church! Christ hung out with sinners and loved them all...and then expected them to acknowledge God as ultimate authority of right and wrong, admit their sin and try to overcome it. He did not encourage them to go on sinning and feel real good about it.

Provided that from day one the church's orientation is "God wants you to accept His love, and strive to be more than you are" I think this is a great idea. But remember, Christ also said, "If they reject what I have told you, shake the dust from your sandals and move on." If the upshod of this policy is going to be feel-good homosexuals coming into the church and dividing it with the Devils smooth half-truths, then fine...keep them out.

And hey, I don't have the time at the moment to look up these two scriptures, so please...somebody do the legwork for me and post them?

Would Jesus discriminate? No, that's the big advantage of being all knowing. You do not need to make judgment’s based on appearances.
Will God enforce his rules? Up to him, but it would be foolish to bet against it.
Will God provide equivalence of outcome? Doesn't seem likely.
Is it appropriate to apply of current political judgments to the creator of the universe?

“The early church welcomed a gay man”

Huh?”

I’m glad you said this, I was trying to think of what part of the bible I missed out on.

Leviticus ostensibly itemizes laws that applied exclusively to the Jews. Instead, look to the books of Corinthians and Timothy...

You are incorrect as are many Christians and Jews...

Genesis is the foundation for everything in the Bible. Nothing has changed in regard to Jews or Christians about creation, it is the precedent for anything in the Bible.

Perfect people don’t need church. Or rather the only perfect person wants the church as His bride.

Would Jesus discriminate?

1Cor 6:9-10 The Father has passed all judgment to the Son. Gays will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

“The early church welcomed a gay man”
Really? I’d like to see them name the man.

“Would Jesus discriminate.”
No. But he would tell you to stop the sinful behavior.

Ok, you missed two key parts of my post: the words “Leviticus” and “ostensibly”.

Not true. Real, practicing Christians are some of the happiest people I know.

If you mean homosexual Christians, you are right. If they aren't at least genuinely trying to keep from sinning, they aren't Christian. They aren't very happy people, either.

Gays Homosexuals are welcome in God's church the same as thieves, adulterers, liars, and all other sinners.

But if any of them are practicing and non-repentant, they should neither be celebrated nor exalted as being wholesome additions to the Body of Christ.

They are NOT what is meant by Fruits of the Spirit.

“The early church welcomed a gay man”

Actually this is true. ... What they forgot to include was that they had to: Admit that they were SINNERS and REPENT! There are NO gay Christians in the 1st century. The two terms are mutually exclusive.

I know this is just preaching to the choir ...

Bravo. Christ said that he didn’t come to abolish the Law, but to complete it. Every jot and tittle of the Law remains true, but it is tempered by Christ’s love. We are not “charged” for the times we fail, provided we acknowledge them, ask forgiveness for them, and honestly try to repent.

Romans is much more to the point...

No, Genesis IS the point. Without Genesis, there is nothing... they are really frustrated by Genesis, but cannot destroy the axiomatic state of procreant human biology, it does not fit their religious agenda.

Homosexual monogamy advocates seek ceremonious sanctification of their anatomical perversions and esoteric absolution for their guilt-ridden, impoverished egos.

Neither of those will satisfy their universal dissatisfaction with mortality or connect them to something eternal. With pantheons of fantasies as their medium of infinitization, they still have nothing in them of reality, any more than there is in the things that seem to stand before us in a dream.

Homosexual deviancy is really a pagan practice (and a self-induced social psychosis) at war with the Judaic culture over what is written in the book of Genesis (1:27, 2:18).

This is exactly what the National Socialists were at war with... so, when someone uses the term "Gaystapo," they might not realize how close to the truth they really are.

Many will seek ceremonious sanctification and esoteric absolution in some type of marriage rite, but that still fails to give them a connection to the eternal in both a religious and temporal, procreant sense - - the union does not produce offspring.

Dissatisfaction with inevitable mortality only feeds the impoverishment of the ego further. Homosexuals really hate human life; their whole desire is rooted in the destruction of it... in direct opposition to Genesis.
