Airliner hijacked in Mexico, lands safely
737 flown to Mexico City from Cancun; 104 passengers Sept. 9: An AeroMexico plane reportedly carrying 104 passengers was hijacked in Cancun and diverted to Mexico City.
MEXICO CITY - An AeroMexico passenger plane was hijacked at the airport in the Mexican resort of Cancun on Wednesday and flown to Mexico City's international airport, where most of the passengers were reported to have been freed.
A Telemundo producer said the hijackers apparently were three Bolivians who were asking to speak to President Felipe Calderon.
Transport Minister Juan Molinar told Mexican radio the aircraft had landed safely. The Boeing 737 carried 104 passengers, according to local media reports.

Mexico City - Three unidentified attackers hijacked a passenger plane in Mexico on Wednesday, the authorities confirmed. The three men threatened to detonate a bomb and demanded to talk with Mexican President Felipe Calderon, Mexican media reported.
The plane, a Boeing 737 operated by the airline Aeromexico, was hijacked after taking off from the renowned resort city of Cancun, in southeastern Mexico. It then landed at Mexico City airport, where it remained isolated on a runway.
Eduardo Rivadeneyra, spokesman for the firm that operates Cancun airport, said the plane had come in from Bolivia and left Cancun with 76 people on board. Other sources said it was carrying 104 passengers.

Three abductors — possibly Bolivians or Colombians — aboard the Boeing 737 Aeromexico jet have threatened to blow it up if their demand to speak to President Felipe Calderon is not met, CNN affiliate TV Azteca said.
The station added that the abductors had begun to release passengers from the jet, which had been moved to a remote area of the airport.
The incident began at 1:40 p.m. (2:40 p.m. ET), when the plane — Flight 576 — arrived from Cancun.
Calderon was in the presidential hangar in the airport preparing to depart when the incident began, leading him to cancel his planned flight, the station said.
