Free Republic Convention & 9/12 TEA Party Picture Thread
Self | 090909 | GRRRRR

Posted on 09/09/2009 3:04:18 PM PDT by GRRRRR

Arrived in DC this afternoon safe and sound. I will be posting pics at link over the next few days. If technically able, also links to YouTube vids of the Tea Party March itself.

Staying at the FR Hotel, but I haven't met up with any FReepers yet.

From my hotel window, I have a view of the Washington Monument and this other monument that I don't recall...

I also saw Marine 1 flying in this afternoon as Obozo returned from some sort of memorial for Walter Crankheit...

More pics to come.

I think pic #2 is a USAF “Missing Man” flight formation finish....

What the hell is that spikey thing?

I never saw that before. I spent a week there about 30 years ago.

Yep. That’s the Air Force memorial. I can see that, the Washington Memorial and Jefferson Memorial from my window too.

The United States Air Force Memorial honors the service and sacrifices of the men and women of the United States Air Force and its predecessor organizations, including the Aeronautical Division, U.S. Signal Corps; the Aviation Section, U.S. Signal Corps; the Division of Military Aeronautics, Secretary of War; the Army Air Service; the U.S. Army Air Corps; and the U.S. Army Air Forces. More than 54,000 airmen have died in combat while serving in the Air Force and these historical service arms of the military, the second highest of any of America’s four armed services.

Located on a promontory in Arlington, Virginia, overlooking the Pentagon and adjacent to Arlington Cemetery, the Air Force Memorial is easily seen on the skyline of Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia in Arlington county.

It’s also just about the only monument in DC that you can’t walk to without risking your life as it’s between the Jeff Davis Highway and the Potomac. You need to have a car or take a taxi.

Thursday...feels a bit like the calm before the storm.

Met up with some FREEPERS this morning and took a little walk down the hill. Did find the USAF Memorial and wandered around that site. Very simple and dignified. Up close, the Missing Man spires are very impressive.

There was a small memorial going on for the "Carpetbaggers" See Link Here a special operations USAF group in WWII.

Off to the north of the USAF Memorial, I could see just a small hill of Arlington National Cemetery...off in the distance to the east, I could see row after row of markers.

Is that looking over the roof of the Pentagon?

No it is not the Pentagon in the foreground. It is some sort of Dept of Defense building, Medical perhaps as there was a sign on an entry driveway for “Dental Area”...I wonder if it is a support building for burial preparation for Arlington?

The Pentagon is straight down the street from the hotel though.
