Here are Obama's own quotes that come immediately before Joe Wilson's remark:
Obama: Some of people's concerns have grown out of bogus claims spread by those whose only agenda is to kill reform at any cost. The best example is the claim made not just by radio and cable talk show hosts, but by prominent politicians, that we plan to set up panels of bureaucrats with the power to kill off senior citizens. Now, such a charge would be laughable if it weren't so cynical and irresponsible. It is a lie, plain and simple. (Applause.) There are also those who claim that our reform efforts would insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false. The reforms -- the reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.

Joe Wilson(R): You lie.

Called his critics "liars". Why oppose legislation that would EXPLICITLY PROHIBIT illegal immigrants from getting coverage?

Obama’s speech will always and forever be known as the “You Lie” speech. Whatever impact he hoped to make was destroyed by Wilson, and Peolosi knows it.

So now the Republicans simply play clips of Democrats booing during Bush’s State of Union speech. Yeah, like that will happen.

The Nancy Botoxi doesn’t want the hearings to reveal that Obama actually outlies Clinton - a remarkable achievement.

This is working out very well by drawing attention to the lies Obama told during his speech. Pelosi would never try to censure because it would come out about the Obama lies.

This is too good — attention drawn to illegals getting healthcre.

She’s right and it’s a politically astute move that will get her points.

I suspect that someone told Pelosi that there was video of Democrats doing the same act from the Bush years...and they’d be standing there grinning in front of the camera and not having any speech to give. The other problem here is that Joe might explain the lie and actually sustain it...and then what? They can’t censure the President for lying.

Joe Wilson should propose a bill that would prohibit this type of behaviour.

That would prevent the liberals from doing it when they become the minority party of congress.

Airing of grievances? What about the "Feats of Strength"? Is it a violation of the establishment clause to have a Festivus pole?

"I do think that, as I said last night, we have to get to the point where we can have a conversation about big, important issues that matter to the American people, without vitriol, without name-calling, without the assumption of the worst in other people's motives"

I hope you overcome your internal struggles & conflicting emotions, Barry.

I was very disappointed — when Joe Wilson apologized. DimocRATS give vitriol at every opportunity, but don’t take it nearly as well as they give. Remember them booing Bush during State Of The Union addresses!

While we’re debating among ourselves over whether his “outburst” was appropriate, our enemies are adjusting their America-destroying strategy to changing circumstances.

Joe Wilson presented us with an unexpected opportunity. It was short-lived, however, and we might’ve squandered it already - in infantile celebration and petty bickering.

No wonder we’re losing.
