Video at link explaining the different forms of government and why we are a Republic and not a Democracy.

Excellent video for homeschoolers to use during school.
I love this video. It should be required viewing for everyone.
Required by the government? the majority? LOL! :)
It should definitely be required viewing for any elected official. Davy Crockett’s “Not Yours to Give” should be required reading as well.
I thought these were a good desription of what we are:
Kleptocracy: term applied to a government that extends the personal wealth and political power of government officials and the ruling class (collectively, kleptocrats), via the embezzlement of state funds at the expense of the wider population, sometimes without even the pretense of honest service.
Plutochracy: rule by the wealthy, or power provided by wealth.
Ochlocracy:is government by mob or a mass of people, or the intimidation of constitutional authorities.
Kritocracy:a government ruled by judges.
Logocracy: is the rule of, or government by, words.
Videocracy: is the power of the image over society.
great post .
I like the way that the video includes all rule by a few under oligarchy including monarchy. It also explains that anarchy and democracy are both just temporary states leading to oligarchy. Although our constitution defines us as a republic, I am afraid we are well into a democracy and on the way to an oligarchy. Prayers for our nation.
Fantastic find.
Thanks! My kids enjoyed it as well. It can speak to many age ranges. Maybe even politicians can understand it!

This is a great vid and has been posted before.
Not to steal your thunder, but here is another good one.
The Philosophy of Liberty:

In eight minutes, you’ll understand liberty.
I believe the video should be shown at the end of Jr. High School, at the begining of High School and at the end of High School. It should be embedded in the minds of our children. But, saddly, it won’t be with the education system we have today.
Bookmark. Thanks for posting.
I knew it had been posted before but worth a repost. Don’t apologize. All good resources welcome!
Very good video. The only problem I see with it as a Christian is that I belong to God and He has made me a steward of my life/time/possessions.

This ping list is for articles of interest to homeschoolers. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping List. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added or removed from either list, or both.
My kids are 10 and 8 and they understood it perfectly. Maybe it should be shown at the end of elementary, beginning or jr high and so on.
That’s very true. But you did find God using your own free will! And subsequently you made the choice to give your life to Him using the same.
I think that’s one of the great things about the philosophy of Liberty is that it lets you follow your own instincts and beleifs.
We certainly are on the way to an oligarchy. What happened in Rome is exactly where we are going now.
Has that been posted as a thread of its own? If not, it should be.
That was GREAT!!!!
That was AWESOME!
No, a republic is ruled by laws. Laws also limit the government’s power. Left wing is rule by oligarchy. They make the decisions and can change the rules. Democracy in the same way is ruled by the majority who can change the rules according to the whim of the majority. Did you watch the whole video? A republic would be moderate. Neither too far left or right.
How do laws that effect the citizen fit into this.
Laws such as drug laws and prostitution laws aren't they laws that are created by the whim of the majority?
I don’t think whim is the right word. Morals maybe. If an individual is infringing on the rights of others then that activity should be illegal. Abortion is infringing on the unborn child’s right to life therefore it SHOULD be illegal. Someones morals are going to be legislated. My morals tell me that drugs and prostitution take away life and liberty (ie they should be illegal). I don’t have all the answers. What do you think about the question you posed?
How does prostitution and drugs take away life and liberty?
how do I think of the question?
have you ever seen the libertarians diamond were the left believe in corporate control and the right believe in social control?
I am very much learning in the direction of the libertarian., if the actions of someone else doesnt effect me or another individual then we have no right to stop them through the use of force. If a drug induced accident takes place only then do we have a right to use force to correct the problem.
Until then drugs laws are no different then gun restriction laws. I wish it was only a left wing issue then this video would make sense.
Drugs take away life through addiction and death. Morally I think drugs are wrong but I don’t think that if someone uses drugs they shouldn’t go to jail. Manufacture and distribution create a conflict of one person’s activity infringing on the rights of others. A person who manufactures drugs may give out “samples” to get their clients hooked. Therefore creating an addiction or lose of liberty for that person which may end in their financial ruin or even death (especially when manuacturers lace their drugs). Prostitution ends in disease, death alot of time for the prostitute and the “client” including the “clients” wife/girlfriend etc. Prostitution is also sometimes akin to slavery in that the prostitute is under the control of a pimp. Like I said someone’s morality has to be legislated.
“if the actions of someone else doesnt effect me or another individual then we have no right to stop them through the use of force”
Are you telling me that drugs and prostitution has no effect on other individuals? Yeah cause drug addicts don’t steal from people or get violent or abuse their children. Prostitutes don’t spread disease and their clients don’t bring it home to their wives. Drug and prostitution don’t wreck neighborhoods and bring violence with them. You are on a slippery slope here. Our misconduct will always affect others in some way.
only actions with the use of the item can be judged, it is only an object.
When the item is judged then you have government regulation of an item which as far as the video goes would fall on the left side.
Correct?
No but the use of an item can be judged. A frying pan is not illegal but if I hit my husband in the head with it and kill him, THAT is illegal. And no the video didn’t describe that to the left. To the left was total government control. To the right was anarchy (not government control). In the middle is where rule of law goes. It is a set of laws that are enforced by the government for the life and liberty of the people. Laws make us free not enslaved. Prostitution is illegal for the good of the woman and the man. It protects them from the slavery, disease, and violence (even death) that is inflicted on them by the actions of another person. That is not total government control. It is a law. If we want to talk about government control, let’s talk about forcing someone to take a vaccine, telling someone what they may do with their own property, compulsory school attendance etc. Those are the kinds of things that an out of control government does.
you seen the video on post number 6. If it is my body then I should have the right to sell any part of my body i choose. If I want to sell my eyes or a kidney that is my choice it is my body.
If I want to sell a service using my body then that should be my right. If I get a disease then that should be between me the clients and my health insurance, with the exception of a CDC lock down.
If this is not true that I do not own my body then I am a slave to the government and falls on the left of the video.
we should not be controlling the object we should be controlling the actions.
Like I said before, if someone wants to sit at home and grow weed and smoke it, I think the government should stay out of it. The manufacture and sell of drugs on the other hand is a problem.
Do you think someone should have the right to sell themselves into slavery? What do you think prostitution is?
We aren’t going to agree. This is my last post to you because I am to tired to debate it anymore.
We aren’t going to agree on this.
as long as they sold themselves under their own free will. yes.
If we don't have that right then it is someone else's body not ours which means we have already been sold.
I agree. The drug is an object. Neither inherently good, or inherently bad. The law is not passed against the object. It is passed against the use of the object depending upon the consequences of the use of said object and its effects on others, since the consequences are not realized in a vacuum.
In the case of prostitution, it is a little more complicated because the body is not just an object. The body carries three parts to it; the flesh, the emotions, and the mind. All three experience consequences if subjected to a misuse of the purpose of the body. It is the realization of these consequences, in all three parts, that have the potential to affect more than just oneself.
For the flesh, we have disease, which may be known or unknown to the host and its partner and therefore may be spread throughout society unwillingly, or worse yet - willingly.
For the emotions and the mind, we have selfless love and joy experienced by those partners who are committed to each other in a bonding relationship, which increases as each one exposes more and more of one’s hidden inner being; the part of us that doesn’t get shared unless we trust our partner. This propagates strong, lasting relationships, that we have found are the best circumstances for building up the family and carrying on human existence.
Or we have selfish, self-centered lust. Un-trusting. Never truly satisfying. This type hinders the family existence, causing strife for society and threatens a nations existence.
Of course this type doesn’t have to be just from prostitution. It can be from any unmarried relationship, as can be witnessed in any urban city where it is common for a young woman to be “raising” 3-8 children, from 3-8 fathers, on her own. A society cannot last very long that way. Thus the reason for at the very least a law against the act of prostitution, and the Biblical Law against adultery, sodomy, and sexual immorality.

The laws are passed on possession of the object without any use other then the object is on your person. Then there are laws that prohibit the use of the object without harming another.
both of those drug laws are inherently intrusive government.
Yes, Drugs and prostitution is a decay of society. I do not deny that but intrusive government is by far worse decay on society.
Government is like fire you can use it to stay warm but excessive use can be dangerous. Trying to fix something like this with government and good intentions should be a leftist view not a right wing view.
We should be persuading people with incentives to follow our lead not force them.
All law by government is intrusive. It is just a matter of how intrusive a society will let it be. As the video points out, we who support a Republic, have neither a desire to become completely intruded by a government, or completely void of any governance. Our “Right”, in theory, is actually “centrist”, or “moderate” in terms of all government possibilities.
If you desire a completely un-intrusive government, try Somalia. As for me, I appreciate the laws we have that have helped me get back under the protection that comes from being under those laws. I have a very deep personal history with both drugs and prostitution. Both started from what I had believed to have been just a little “innocent” dabbling.
It would not be intrusive when government takes you in for murder because it would not be inappropriate or unwarranted disturbance of your peace.
I do not know your personal life to know what took place and if would have been possible that you could of gotten help from another source.
