An Unhinged Right Wing. But Why?
http://www.cbsnews.com ^ | September 13, 2009 | Gary Younge

Posted on 09/13/2009 9:25:48 AM PDT by Maelstorm

Spare a thought, and maybe even a dime, for Kenneth Gladney. In August he and other members of the right-wing St. Louis Tea Party arrived at a town-hall meeting organized by Missouri Democrat Russ Carnahan to lobby against universal healthcare. In the spirit of this fraught summer, a fight broke out, ending in six arrests.

Who threw the first punch depends on whom you ask. But who got the worst of it was fairly clear. Gladney was taken to the emergency room with injuries to his knee, back, elbow, shoulder and face and ended up in a wheelchair. His troubles were just beginning. Recently laid off, this particular anti-health reform protester, it turned out, had no health insurance. Last heard, he was still accepting donations for his medical expenses.

It's not difficult to ridicule the American right. Its peculiar blend of paranoia, mania, fantasy and misanthropy has been given full rein these past few months. Those who demanded in July to see Obama's birth certificate (which does exist) ended August invoking the British healthcare system's "death panels" (which do not). That most of their claims were verifiably false was of little consequence--to them at least. At one point they insisted that if scientist Stephen Hawking were British and subject to the National Health Service, he would be dead, even though Hawking is British, alive and grateful to the NHS for his care.

So progressives could be forgiven for branding the right as stupid and crazy. But they would also be wrong.

This guy is deluded. The left are at the top of their game with making up "facts". Look at the history of all their core movements (pro-abortion feminism, environmentalism, gay activism, socialism) all of which began not with facts but with claims and they through inserting activists into universities and a willing press have continued to warp the public discourse to their ends. It has only been with the rise of alternative media that America's natural conservatism has been given a voice. We are not Britian, we are not a buch of whiny "give mes" looking for a pat on the head from Uncle Sam who is raping lady liberty with one hand while tossing us a pittance with the other.

The guy came nowhere close to Gladney’s role, trying to make a few bucks on pins and bumper stickers, completely lied about the circumstances of the attack on him by SEIU thugs. In short, “YOU LIE” Gary Younge.

The left is becoming frightened. Their fear will prompt a more aggressive use of means that previously worked for them. If the right becomes too threatening to leftist power then real violence, with real beatings and shootings will take place. The federal government will defend the left and packed juries shall aquit those who shoot and maim. Never forget it is the cornered rat that bites.

Those who demanded in July to see Obama's birth certificate (which does exist)

Has the author seen it or is he taking it to be true on "good authority?"

ended August invoking the British healthcare system's "death panels" (which do not).

NHS London is the Strategic Health Authority for London, England. A paper leaked in April of this year (2006) openly acknowledged NHS London’s new mandate for cost containment through health care rationing, this, despite it’s stated mission to “deliver world-class care.” Among the cost cutting measures: 1) Panels were established across London to monitor the rates at which General Practitioners refer patients to hospital. Local health trusts were instructed to cut GP referral rates to the levels of the lowest 10% nationally at an estimated annual saving of 25m pounds.

And these same types did not say a word about the 9-11 truther nuts like Van Jones. Yet they seem to think that a few people who expect the President to be transparent on issues of his birth, his medical history, his education are some how nuts? How is that? That sounds reasonable to me. Where as believing that George Bush had something to do with 9-11 is totally nutball and a majority of Democrats believed it was possible and none of the usual suspects who are crying about Birthers said a thing about Truthers. I think it illustrates a fear from the left that things are coming apart at the seams and they are right. They elected a man on false pretenses. Most that voted for him did not think they were voting for a harsh partisan liberal. I don’t know why they would’ve thought anything different but they did. So now the left has a lame duck President and even worse a lame duck Democrat Congress they just are afraid to admit it. They are in denial.

Isn't it contemptible how these liberals blithely pass over the crux of the fracas with "Who threw the first punch depends on whom you ask." Had it been an leftist who'd ended up in a wheelchair, NO ONE -- not commentators from the right, because they have integrity, and not commentators from the left, because they have a template -- would shrug it off with "Who threw the first punch depends on who you ask."

Honor is alien to the left.

Actually, no. He lives and works at Cambridge University in England, and has since 1962.

Cambridge has several of the best hospitals in the world associated with it and he has benefited from this.

It is idiotic to claim the NHS has provided him treatment that would have otherwise been unavailable to him. Top flight world-famous scientists receive the best available medical care in every country on earth.

The medical socialists would have a better case if they could show that Joe Blow with a similar disease routinely gets better care in UL than US.

It's funny how when we do nothing, they say the "republican party/conservative movement is dead.".

Then, when we do turn out to be counted, we're "unhinged".

It's the Saul Allinsky method in action, discredit the messenger...but the trouble is with Saul Allinsky, only the left-thinking buy that crap. Those of us with a modicum of common sense see through it as a 70's radical, plastic banana good-time, rock and roll, fratboy stunt.

The flower children have taken over, it's time for the adults to come back and clean up the mess and straighten it all out.

So progressives could be forgiven for branding the right as stupid and crazy. But they would also be wrong.

For a moment I thought the author might be interested in understanding why "the right" is violently opposed to these "reforms," and then perhaps try to explain to them why they shouldn't be opposed.

No such luck. Having discarded the stupid and crazy explanations for right-wing resistance to the building of utopia, he plumps whole-heartedly for the only remaining alternative, in liberal/socialist eyes.

Conservatives are neither crazy nor stupid, they're just wicked.

It's especially easy when you have abandoned any shred of integrity or the least pretense at actual investigation and inquiry and decided that you love Eurosocialism so much that you'll embrace any Ci-cago gang that seizes the rhetoric of it to impose mob bossism on the entire country and destroy the Constituion.

From the article: "... the British healthcare system's "death panels" (which do not [exist]). "

Perhaps the author of the article would care to explain then who decided that premature babies, born at 21 weeks and five days, shall be denied medical care.

Was the British Parliament involved in this decision? Was this an isolated decision made by the woman's doctor? Or was this a policy decision made by the UK's equivalent of a "death panel" deciding matters of life and death in the rationing of health care?

The author seems to think that "death panels" don't exist as long as we call a decision-making group, that excludes the patient and doctor and which denies access to public care resulting in death, something different. Perhaps we need to call them "Choice Panels". The government has decided to exercises the right to CHOOSE who lives and dies.

It's just the ultimate extension of being "Pro-Choice".
