Not America's Proudest Moment
CBS ^ | 9/13/09 | Bob Schieffer

Posted on 09/13/2009 2:22:54 PM PDT by Nachum

Forget Bipartisanship, Comity or Civility - Schieffer Says Mindless Meanness Has Invaded the Public Commons

(CBS) That was not a State of the Union speech we heard the other night, but it had all the trappings - and when that Congressman hollered "You lie!" at the President, we did get a snapshot of the nation's state.

It was not a pretty picture.

The country is in an angry mood - people are frustrated, tempers are short, congressmen are being shouted down at town hall meetings (where constituents sometimes show up with guns), and at rallies like the one yesterday in Washington where people carried signs such as "Bury Health Care with Kennedy."

Bob knows nothing apparently about America’s beginnings then. These are some of our proudest moments! Americans standing up for their rights and exercising their rights of free speech, right to bear arms and freedom of assembly. Fighting back against fascism that threatens our republic. Against enemies foreign and domestic. We the people.

Brother, Bob, are you ever wrong or just too deeply on the other side.

Hey Bob, I seem to remember that it was the liberals who started the nastiness during Clinton's impeachment, intensified it during the 2000 election and its aftermath, and refined it over the past eight years.

Now that the shoe is on the other foot, you have the gall to essentially blame the GOP for it?

Where has this guy been for the last eight years? Under a rock?

Oh, and as to the togetherness after 9/11; that lasted a total of, what? three weeks? before the dimowits were dragging their heels on every aspect of the war on terror? From then on, they called President Bush a liar and an imperialist on a daily basis, for nearly 8 years? Where were you on that, Schieffer?

Oh, I know. Now they’re pillorying YOUR boy.

Bob’s just seeing what he wants to see.

I started off life with Bob’s worldview. Sad, but true. Fortunately for myself, I was innoculated as a young man by living in the Emerald People’s Republic on Kincaid Street right across from the University of Oregon. I learned in that community and in that college the true meaning of diversity and tolerance. Tolerance meant, “We approve of your right to say whatever you want, as long as we agree with what you say.” Diversity meant, “We want a variety of people from many races, ethnic groups, and backgrounds who say and do the same thing from a leftist viewpoint.” I left the place profoundly in love with my country, my Constitution, and the exceptionalism of my home culture.

Now I see something like this article and feel sorry for the poor schlub. He’ll go to his grave looking at the world like a small boy looking at the street through a crack in the fence.

>>(where constituents sometimes show up with guns),<< OH THE HORROR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shades of Bob Dornan! Wasn't he reprimanded and suspended from the floor of the House for three days or something -- in a gun control debate, some congresswoman ranted about going into the woods to shoot Bambi, and Dornan said something like, "Americans don't have the 2nd Amendment so they can go into the woods and shoot Bambi -- we have it to go to Washington and shoot Congressmen!"

I seem to recall too seeing old prints (maybe from the Andrew Jackson era? Other eras?) of Congressmen actually going after each other with walking sticks and fists . . . Oh, for the good ol' days! ;-)

The irony of a congressman trying to heckle a president in the midst of a speech that was, among other things, about the need for civility is just one ugly sign of the mindless meanness that has settled over our politics

How incredibly insulting. "Civility"? How about "just sit down, shut up, I won, let me do what I want, and thank me for whatever scraps I let you have." That kind of "civility"?

How different it was in the aftermath of a far more difficult time, those days after 9/11, whose anniversary we marked on Friday.

Oh, you mean that day where thousands of Americans were slaughtered by Muslims, the same Muslims our president goes out of his way to praise and declare the need for our emulation of their "values"?

I got news, Schieffer--we're just getting warmed up.

Bob Schieffer considers his press pass a pass on telling the truth.

Does he recall Ted Kennedy's rhetoric about Bork?

Does he recall the liberal's high-tech lynching of Clarence Thomas?

Does he recall Bill Clinton trying to tie Rush Limbaugh to the OKC bombing?

Does he recall Hillary Clinton coining the phrase "vast right-wing conspiracy?"

Does he recall Algore's spittle-flecked psychotic ranting about Pres. Bush?
"He played on our fears!"

Does he recall the numerous Dem pols who accused our troops of murder and torture as a matter of accepted practice? Kennedy, Kerry, Durbin, Murtha and on and on and on?

No, commie knee-padder Bob Schieffer doesn't remember any of that. If he does he must think decent Americans should just keep taking all of those disgusting defamatory lies endlessly. FUBS.

It was not a pretty picture.

The way Obama lied, with an air of smugness, and authority...in the context of correcting "misinformation"...was both beleivable to the ignorant, and outrageous to the informed.

Obama demanded rebuke, and he got a much milder form then he deserved!
