WaPo Promotes Story That 9-12 Marchers Are Racist: 'They Don't Even Know What They Are Protesting'
NewsBusters ^ | September 14, 2009 | Tim Graham

Posted on 09/14/2009 6:09:30 AM PDT by Zakeet

On Sunday, the home page of the Washington Post website buried the 9-12 rally in tiny type, while the rotating photos at the top of the page were all local stories. On Monday, one of those rotating photos highlighted a Post story on the front of the Metro section on how people attending the Black Family Reunion think that tens of thousands of Americans came to Washington not because they love freedom, but because they hate black people. Metro reporter Yamiche Alcindor began:

On Saturday, tens of thousands of protesters thronged to the U.S. Capitol to angrily accuse President Obama of taking the country in the wrong direction. A day later, in the shadow of the Washington Monument, many participants at a much smaller gathering -- the 24th annual Black Family Reunion -- said the level of hostility toward the nation's first African American president had little to do with policy differences over health care or taxes and everything to do with race.

"It' s not conducive to the coalitions we need to build in this country," said Vera Hope, 60, of Mount Rainier as she left a booth promoting health prevention. "I'm disgusted and upset by the hostility. Let's call it was it is -- it's just a disguise for right-wing racists. They are fomenting a climate of violence to provoke people."

The Post’s headline for this nasty smear was "Seeking Healing, Seeing Hostility." Alcindor didn’t highlight one person who suggested conservatives were racists, and not principled free-marketeers. She found two:

Colleen Freeman, 50, said many of Obama's critics are motivated by race. "A lot of people are protesting, and they don't even know what they are protesting," she said. "Some of these folks are getting Social Security, and it's because their grandparents put in the work for it. Now they won't give Obama a chance to work. Some know they need health care but don't want it to be Obama that gives it to them."

The Post itself admits the Black Family Reunion was a much smaller event. So why did it draw much more prominent placement and promotion on the Post home page than the 9-12 rally?

Alcindor and the Post made no attempt to explain that this was an event thrown by a liberal lobbying group that opposes black people in government who are not liberals, like Clarence Thomas and Janice Rogers Brown:

Dorothy Height, president of National Council of Negro Women, which holds the reunion, said that although she was pleased that the protesters and the reunion participants coexisted peacefully, she was disappointed that some marchers were so crass.

"They are a bad sign for democracy," said Height, 97, who supports health-care reform. "I've never heard anyone say that they wished the other presidents would fail," she said. "President Obama has shown courage and leadership in trying to tackle various problems."

Crass? How can the Post line up the repeated suggestion that tens of thousands of American are too dumb to know what they’re protesting and then accuse the marchers of being crass?

Unstated:

What was the state of the protest grounds following the 9/12 march versus the state of the grounds following the million man march or the “anti-war” protests?

What about people who vote for a guy just because he’s black? How is that not racist. What if I voted for a guy just because he’s white or hispanic. That would make me a racist I would say.

“Black Family Reunion” is a racist term in and of itself. The name excludes Whites, Yellow, Brown, and Red people. It shows haw much the “Blacks” hate the other groups.

Now if we had held “The White Tea Party”, I’d say they might have a beef.

Most anti-war protesters in DC demonstrations are white.

I have seen dozens of these, and black folk are always sparsely represented. Always.

Of course, the Black Family Reunion people know, in their hearts, that we are correct. So they play the race card. That’s how you can tell, they have no argument and no point to make other than they enjoy thinking of themselves as perennial victims.

How could they have dreamed of signing this into law in July?

It was the town hall attendees that were schooling the representatives in what was in the bill. The attendees and bloggers were dissecting the bills.

The media was nowhere to be found and the Representatives were laughing at the idea that they actually read the bill without a couple of lawyers handy.

Obama’s own words “I’m not familiar with that section of the bill”

And WE DON’T KNOW WHY WE ARE PROTESTING? We will not submit to the collective and surrender our freedom and liberties to the Marxists.

And when Obama ends up being a one-termer they’ll blame it on race — and nothing in this country will ever change. Minorities will retain the victim status.

Washington is a Socialist/Marxist cesspool, thinking it still has a drain field that trickles out into shaping Publik Opinions.

Because ObaMao has tripled the size of this Government, Washington is booming from all the economic activity and new strength felt by the Liberals who live there.

Only problem is, the rest of America has been thrown under the bus. We are about the hit the pitch fork/torch phase very soon. Especially if they use the “Reconciliation” clause to pass ObaMao Care.

They sit in what they still believe is their Ivory Tour and cannot be touched (Torched) by the rest of us idiot goons. But just wait until 2010. The Press has lost much credibility and status, among the very least of the population, as well as the very top of the economic chain.

We will see how much they brag come the midterms. I know where I will be fer sher.

Why would a person expect anything factual out of the Washington Post? They slant a story the way they want to.

So many hundreds of thousands of people show up in Washington, and the Democratic news media falls all over themselves, trying to dismiss it. This is the reality of the America in which we live.

Their over reach will change the meaning of the word racist.

New definition
Racist = One who vilely accuses others of being racist, because they have run out of ideas and are losing the battle.

Ohhhh, and even better, we had better not oppose a Constitutional Amendment allowing a President to remain in office for as many terms as they can win...

It’s only fair, because we do not want to be called racists or anything...

From the WaPo story:

From its inception, the two-day event has focused on healing and uplifting black families. This year's theme was "Renewing, Reviving and Reconnecting the Family Community." It featured musical performances, health screenings and motivational speakers.

All about "community" nothing about the Black Family's decline under liberal/democrat directives over the last forty years.

They know they are losing the argument. That is why they are already using their last resort.

All of those protesters had signs making it abundantly clear as to why they were there.

None of them were racist.

The MSM cannot discuss the real reasons people protested without calling attention to the fact they are “in bed” with all lying leftist thugs.

I like it, it shows the good old boys of the dino media are desperate. No matter what happens, they go straight to what they think is their harshest attack right away. It proves that the “post-racial” society was supposed to be “do what he says cause he's black” and it's not working out real well for them.

A few more months and they could report a fire and no one will believe it unless they saw the fire themselves.

Regards

Question...

Did anyone here believe that this event was going to get the kind of coverage, or analysis, that some believed that it should???

I would not have given a hoot and a holler if it only got 2 minutes of discussion anywhere in the media...They can go pound sand as far as I am concerned...

The marchers should have inundated the capitol building, the executive office building, if nothing more than to cause an occupancy concern...

The march should not have been seen primarily as a media draw...

It should have been seen mainly as a message directly at the congress and the President...

Just my opinion...

This is a total bunch of crap. The event was the black FAMILY reunion. These were normal folks, just like us. While waiting for my bus on the steps of the Natural History Museum, I talked to several of them and everyone was very nice. I ended up talking to one very light skinned black lady who was joking to her friend that she told her grandfather that she was renouncing her scottish heritage over the release of the terrorist. i told her I was welsh, and we’d take her and she laughed. Several others passing spoke their support of what we were doing. As a group, they were a pretty conservative bunch.
