WASHINGTON President Obama has long suggested that he would like to move beyond race. The question now is whether the country will let him.
He woke up on Wednesday to a rapidly intensifying debate about how his race factors into the broader discussion of civility in politics, a question prompted in part by former President Jimmy Carters assertion Tuesday that racism was behind a Republican lawmakers outburst against Mr. Obama last week as the president addressed a joint session of Congress.
Even before that, several conservatives had accused their liberal counterparts of unfairly tainting them as racists for engaging in legitimate criticism of the White House.
Mr. Obamas response to all this, aides say, has been to tell his staff not to be distracted by the charges and to focus on health care and the rest of his policy agenda.
He could probably give a very powerful speech on race, just as he did in the course of the campaign, said Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to Mr. Obama. But right now his top domestic priority is health care reform. Its difficult, challenging and complicated. And if he leads by example, our country will be far better off.

A bit of a surprising article from the New York Times—I thought they would write a typical lib article saying that it was obviously racism that led to the attacks on Hussein, but instead they quoted Rush, Gingrich, Colin Powell and “former Bush officials” explaining why it was not. Not what I expected from the NYT. Wonder what’s going on?
Exactly. That was a fair article. They even pointed out the hypocrisy of the left noting how Bush was hung in effigy etc.
IMO, they are scared shite. They know this is backfiring based on the Raz poll of 12% thinking its racist to criticize Zero.
Why should he get in the middle of this???
When he has everyone else battling it out for him...He doesn’t need to say much about this at all...Thats what typical liberal statists do...They let others fight the battle, knock themselves out doing so, and he’ll come out of it smelling like a rose with a minimal statement that will convince most mush-minds that he is above the fracus...
Brilliant Alinsky playbook call...
domo arigato...
(or something like that)
hehehe
Good point!
He may be a hypocrite, but he is absolutely brilliant in getting others to be hypocritical for him...
It is a win-win situation for him...
What needs to happen is someone needs to take the wind out of his sails, and put the issue dead in the water...
There are ways to do that, but talking about it here doesn’t get it to those that need to make it happen...
He’s a jackass, triangulating his way toward oblivion.
This is Obama’s MO totally.
He is not man enough to be a real leader, he has to “appear” to be a leader “above the fray”.
What a sock puppet.
You nailed it!
He's not 50% black. He's 6% black, 44% Arab, and 50% white, so I just find it easier to hate the biggest piece of him.
Oh, the irony of it all! The “transparent” president is finally living up to the name. Anyone with a brain can see through this farce. Obama has done everything he can to create a boiling cauldron of animosity, saying police officers acted stupidly, calling anyone who exposes his lies a liar and in general acting like a community agitator and now that his minions are on TV showing a sign that says “Bury Obamacare” and claiming that it says “Bury Obama” he will step back and pretend to be dismayed at what is going on. He will claim to be pouring a year’s supply of oil on the troubled waters and calling for everyone to “just get along”. This is sillier than anything I ever saw on “HeeHaw”.
Wake up America! This is straight out of the communist agitator’s playbook.
“His goal, Mr. Obama has told both camps, is to be seen as a president who happens to be black rather than the nations first black president.”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Yeah, sure! That must be why he has never missed a chance to call attention to himself as a black man, “Oh, did I mention I’m black”? He has ridden this black horse just as John Kerry tried to ride his Vietnam hero story and now it has reached the point that even equine devotees would like to see that steed break a leg.
Wake up America!! Take away the “first black president” story and what do you have left? A pompous, arrogant, empty suit poser who was put into office by people eager to destroy this country. The trick would not work with a white candidate, they needed someone they could pass off as a black man, if Obama looked like Anderson Cooper he never would have gotten into the ballpark, let alone put a toe on first base. The nation may as well have elected a cartoon character, we would have gotten better results.
Obama is clear of it? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
He is at the head of the class! You speak stupidly...
Feel free...
I for one don’t think everything Obama does is about race. Not everything.
