Lott, Clinton, Gingrich say bitterness fades

WASHINGTON Set aside the images of lawmakers in hallowed halls of the Capitol yelling about who's lying and why, and picture this: Two Republican heavyweights and the Democratic president they tried to eject from office a decade ago, perched together as elder statesmen in a gilded chamber reserved for events that transcend partisanship.
"We were sort of a triangle," former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott recalled Wednesday of then-Speaker Newt Gingrich and President Bill Clinton. They all joined Lott's colleagues, staff and family to unveil the Mississippi Republican's official portrait. "Even though we had our differences, we found a way to come together."
It was a striking, if quaint, counterpoint to the events that had transpired down the hall a day earlier, when the House voted largely along party lines to rebuke Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C. for shouting, "You lie!" at President Barack Obama as he addressed a joint session of Congress.

I know it may not be the popular thing, and I know it isn't always easy to overcome political passions, but I do believe we need more civility and respect in our political discourse. I believe it is possible to oppose, even to hate, political ideas without hating the person holding those ideas.

Bitterness? Lott did as much as anyone to undermine the impeachment proceedings. ‘Toon should be licking his boots.

And Gingrich was successfully smeared and LOST the PR battle with Clinton’s White House. Its Gingrich who should be the bitter one.

Exactly.....100-0 to run the sham in the Senate. 100 votes means every republican voted to scam us.

Tell that to the democraps first. I know it takes two sides, and I'm fully aware the hate that can come from the left. We all need a good dose of Christian kindness. Our nation needs it. Hate is like cancer, it eats away at our national spirit.

What a sick bunch of wimps!!
That garbage place needs to be taken to the dump & replaced by real patriotic conservatives.
The 'crossing the aisle' incest is ruining our country.
Time for new blood to man up and take our country back.

Oh good idea, I move that we all come together and pray for Satan, he's not evil just some of his ideas, why I'll bet that he's a fine guy at heart, probably pats his demonic dogs on the head, throws 'em dog biscuits, and enjoys smelling the roses.
Forget right and wrong, black and white, good and evil, let's all embrace infinite shades of grey, ok?
Grey like MUSH.
Hey, why not pray for The Kenyan Usurper, aka 0bama?
Oh wait, I'm being redundant I already suggested praying for Satan.

The 'crossing the aisle' incest is ruining our country.
What is the proper way for a national political figure to behave? How would we behave if we were members of Congress and had to work with liberals on a daily basis? If Sarah Palin became President, would you want her to treat Democrats with contempt? With hate? There is a picture of Ronald Reagan sharing a drink and a laugh with Walter Cronkite. Was Reagan a Rino, a wimp, or a sellout? I know everybody is upset about things, but do we let our passion overcome our kinder natures?

This is just news because the left isn’t used to being on the receiving end of their own tactics. Fighting fire with fire is often useful. Ridicule and shame are very powerful tools, especially against the sin of envy that the left is consumed with. If you know of a more effective antidote to envy, we’d all love to hear it. Christ was nailed to the cross in envy. Even he didn’t have a more effective antidote that was civil and respectful.

I know that John Adams and Tom Jefferson were bitter enemies...Adams was even upset that he thought he was dying ahead of Jefferson...of course that turns out to be wrong, but he never knew!

Hate is like cancer, it eats away at our national spirit. It's not hate - it's RIGHTEOUS ANGER. Jesus Christ displayed it when he railed against the merchants in the temple. Sometimes it is appropriate to be angry and to show it. This "taking the high road stuff" is what led to us being where we are now.

A national political figure should NOT ignore the Constitution in order to appease liberals. If Sarah Palin became President - YES, I would want her to treat the RATs with contempt when contempt is deserved. They need to be exposed for what they are & what they are trying to foist on the electorate.
You are suggesting that we do what Obama is doing with our enemies. Give them big hugs, get on our knees & beg them to like us.
That game is OVER!! No longer are we willing to bring a knife to a gun fight. We want our representatives to stand up for our country & not serve to have cozy relationships with each other. I don't care how much smoozing the Republicans do - it's never enough - they cave in & nothing is gained.
Thinking the way you do might make you feel good, but feeling good is not what is going to save us from destruction.

Precisely. The OP pointed out (for example) an instance of Ronald Reagan sharing a drink with Walter Cronkite, but that does NOT mean that Reagan compromised his principles or undermined our Constitution in favor of the one world socialist/communist beliefs of 'the most trusted man in America'. ('most trusted' like Hell!)
Now I don't know how anyone else views the elected officials they send to office but when *I* pull the lever for a conservative Republican, I am NOT authorizing with my vote, for them to go to Washington D.C., join the exclusive 'Inside the Beltway Club' and start schmoozing with our ideological enemies (i.e., DemocRats), be it knocking back a couple drinks, heading out to the golf course, which leads to 'you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours'.
I send MY elected representatives to Washington to wage total partisan warefare with those who would (and are) trying to sell out our Country, destroy our Republic, emasculate our military, and give aid and comfort to our enemies on a global scale. I want them to exploit each and every loophole in 'Robert's Rules of Order' to give DemocRats pure living Hell, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and I don't care if they have to filibuster endlessly to do it!
I want this socialistic/Communistic criminal enterprise brought to a screeching damn halt, and I want it halted NOW!
So forget all of this 'be nice to our adversaries' clap-trap, because that is exactly what has gotten us to the place we are today, which is right on the edge of national extinction. And if our elected officials that are still loyal to our Constitution and our Republic are unable to put the brakes on this not-so-slow-motion train wreck that the 0bamunists have engineered for America, then it will be up to We The People, and that means that Thomas Jefferson's advice about 'watering the tree of Liberty' will need to be implemented, and if so?
So be it.
