Praying for Glenn Beck (Washington Post- Christians Are Scary)
Washington Post ^ | 9/11/09 | David Waters

Posted on 09/19/2009 12:12:12 PM PDT by nickcarraway

Fox Newsevangelist Glenn Beck might be the most prayed for man in America at the moment -- which could be good news for all of us.

A few weeks ago, Beck urged his conservative Christian followers to pray for his protection. "There is (billionaire George) Soros money now being funneled to stop me. The biggest names, the most powerful people on the planet on the left -- I've told you before, they're not going to go away easy . . . Please, keep me in your prayers, keep my staff in your prayers, for safety, for wisdom, please."

Meanwhile, over on the left, Jim Wallis is asking his fellow progressive Christians to pray for Beck. "It should be no surprise that we strongly disagree with many of Glenn's views, but we too believe in a God far greater than all of us. So on this point, let's take Glenn at his word and pray for him to have wisdom as he speaks out on these issues. Tell Glenn you're praying for him - that he'll choose hope over fear."

So maybe neither of those prayer requests are purely nonpartisan. But it does show that Red State Christians and Blue State Christians at least can pray for the same person, if not for the same reasons. That's progress, right? The culture war-weary among us appreciate any sign of progress among the faithful, especially after reading the new 2009 Religious Activists Survey, which shows just how deeply and fundamentally divided religious activists are in this country.

Here are just a few of the lowlights in the survey of 3,000 conservative and progressive religious activists.

Jim Wallis

focus on issues of peace and social justice, earning him his primary support from the religious left. Wallis is also known for his opposition to the religious right's fiscal and foreign policies

Wallis became active in the civil rights movement. He graduated from Michigan State University, where he was President of Students for a Democratic Society

he founded a magazine called the Post-American, Wallis came to Washington, D.C., armed with the liberal pieties that flourished in the seventies

For many years, Sojourners preached against racism, poverty, and unbridled materialism, but somehow the culture critique was directed primarily at conservative Christians who had sold their faith, it seemed, for a mess of Reaganism.

“Please don’t make this thread into something no one intended. It was not posted to debate Mormonism. Let’s not go there”

Who’s debating Mormonism? I’m trying to set the perameters for when it’s proper to invoke evangelism. Switch your Mormon sensor to a less sensitive setting, please.

For who? The author?

This thread is about Beck, not his religion. Which btw I don’t share.

Why don’t they call BO Televangelist Obama — have you ever heard him when he sounds like a Black pastor? He does it often.

“I still can’t figure out why so many homosexuals fear God and Christians.”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Because when those bible thumping Christians get all tanked up with bootleg liquor they go out and look for somebody to persecute and queers are one of their favorite victims. Of course homosexuals are all gentle and kind and wouldn’t even know how to hurt a flea if they wanted to so naturally they tremble in fear when they hear the roar of all those night riders on their Harleys as they search high and low for a gayboy to string up.

My wife and I are praying for him (along with the young couple/videogreporters) and for his families safety. God is graciously using him to expose the wickedness, coruption and nefarious dealings of the Obama administration along with the democRATS and republicans.

Please continue to pray for Glenn and for his salvation (He is a Mormon who has a zeal for God, but not according to wisdom. He needs to come to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Word of God.).

This Beckophobia drivel from the left and their usual mocking of any religious faith (except Islam - they are mysteriously silent about that religion) is typical. Read the comments below the article. Mostly hate-filled diatribes against Glenn Beck, Fox News and conservatives in general with special venom for Christians (Beck is a Mormon). Not much new, here.

There is a widening divide in this country between the so-called 'progressives' and everyone else. Fortunately, 'progressives' are in the minority. 'Everyone else' is beginning to realize what conservatives have known for years; that the left ('progressives') control academia, the media , show business, unions and now, the government - and they're coming to take away our freedoms. They're serious, well-funded and deeply entrenched in the corridors of power and influence. What's the good news? They are a minority - and can be stopped.

That won't be easy but the leftist, dinosaur media has lost it's death-grip on information and Obama has made such a mess of things in so short a time by over-reaching and showing his pettiness and arrogance to the country, folks are catching on, becoming frightened and won't be put off or swayed by flowery speeches by Obama and spittle-spraying hate pieces against Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity or any other conservative voice, including the indispensable Sarah Palin, who the left fears, big-time.

This period in time will be a true defining moment in U.S. political history. The left has all it's pieces in a row, ready to 'transform' America into the militarily weak, financially crippled and religion-free third-rate nation the left has always wanted it to be (the leftist elite will do just fine...they plan on running everything). Most Americans are beginning to realize what's coming and are rebelling. It will get nasty. The left won't surrender easily, as Beck often states. They will use the power of the presidency, the Democrat majority in congress, Hollywood, the media and whatever else they can find to thwart American's rejection of their nation-destroying policies. This is war, whether or not 'everyone else' realizes it.

I still can’t figure out why so many homosexuals fear God and Christians.

IMO it's because the source of reasoning for their homosexuality stops with God and Christians . God says it's wrong to be gay and that's it! No more talking. Bible believing Christians know that and tell them so and they don't want to hear it. That's why so many of them don't go to churches where Jesus is preached. They have their own churches where they go to have their ears tickled.

Main Entry: evan·ge·list Pronunciation: \i-ˈvan-jə-list\ Function: noun Date: 13th century 1 often capitalized : a writer of any of the four Gospels 2 : a person who evangelizes; specifically : a Protestant minister or layman who preaches at special services 3 : an enthusiastic advocate

************************ This is Merriam-Webster's definition.

An evangelist is anyone bearing good news - most commonly of the Good News (Gospel) of Jesus Christ, but one could be called an evangelist of anything that they are promoting to be good for someone: exercise, healthy food, etc. In this case, it is actually, technically used appropriately for Glenn Beck - an evangelist for getting back to the principles of our Founding Fathers -- however, it does seem to be used in a negative way - to make it look like Beck is some kind of preacher.

Personally, I think the Left's hero, Barack Obama, dons this manner quite frequently - especially when speaking to Black folks -- just listen to how he changes the way he talks.

If anything happens to Beck, I won't be the only one going on an extended hunting trip.

Yeah, I’ve also heard it when he “talks street,” like he did with the NAACP.

“but one could be called an evangelist of anything that they are promoting to be good for someone: exercise, healthy food, etc.”

I’m familiar with this sense of the word, and have no problem with it, so long as people know they’re using it as a metaphor. There are better words, but whatever. The problem with using it for Beck is that the entire article is about religion, not about the values of the Founding Fathers, hence my calling it prejudicial.

Conservatives believe in the Constitution and the original intent of the Founding Fathers.

Do you think there will ever be another amendment to the US Constitution? There is no longer any reason to amend it. It no longer hinders the government from doing anything?

Healthcare? Not in there, belongs to the states. It would make sense to amend the constitution to handle health care.

The lefties are not proposing ANY serious amendments anymore.

I have heard him “talk street,” also. With due respect to the office of the presidency, I am totally disgusted with BO and his wife, MO. He is not legitimate, as far as I am concerned. I will be glad when his one and only term is over or when he is impeached.

I agree with your assessment.

The Left just cannot handle that someone like Glen Beck, who is a power house of passion and truth, is truly moving people to right thinking and action.

I asked one of my most intelligent Lefty online sparring partners that very question the other day. He says he and his friends are afraid that Christians will set up an Iranian-style Christian theocracy in the U.S., establish a new Inquisition, burn witches and pagans (no mention of Jews —odd), censor the press and media, and force everyone to convert to Christianity and attend church.

No, really, that’s what they’re scared of.
