Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is the preferred 2012 GOP presidential nominee among Christian conservatives, according to the results of a straw poll announced Saturday at an annual gathering of the religion (sic) right in Washington.
Prominent Republican leaders, including House Minority Leader John Boehner, took to the stage at the Value Voters Summit to blast President Obama's spending policies and announce the top 2012 presidential pick among conservative voters.
The summit's poll, which featured 9 presidential prospects, found that 28 percent of Christian conservatives said Huckabee would revive the Republican party and traditional conservative principles while 12.4 percent preferred former Massachustts governor and presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Other strong contenders included Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who won over 12.23 percent of conservative voters. Former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and Indiana Rep. Mike Pence came out in in a virtual tie at 12.06 percent and 11.89 percent, respectively.

Evidence that some of the people can be fooled all of the time.
Strange valies, then.
Of course. Believing that the earth is 6000 years old is the number one issue.
I guess we didn’t learn anything in 2008. We’re running out of chances.
values, that is
I can’t stand this...why?
WHY?
Not a SNOWBALL’S CHANCE IN TED KENNEDY’S NEW BACKYARD...
Not surprising. Huckabee gives a good speech and Sarah wasn’t there.
Shaking head. Rolling eyes.
Again the media is picking our nominee.
If the GOP wants to sandbag another election then this poll is the way to do it. No way Huckabee...never.
The whole event is insipid. And that’s the nicest thing I have to say about it.
Oh,for goodness sakes, here they go again.
I don’t believe, in recent history at least, the winner of that straw poll ever goes on to do well in the primaries. It is almost a kiss of death (I think because so many bring their own people to stack the polls it gives a false impression and screws up strategy).
aaaahhhh guys, he only got 28% of the vote. Jumpin the gun. Huskster won it last year narrowly...what good did that do?
It’s only 2009.
Huckabee is a bass playing boob.
What Fox News refused to emphasize was that Sarah’s son Track is returning home from Iraq. She was planning on attending, but canceled due to her son coming home.
Note to Repubs -
New faces with traditional values... or no deal
spare me from the huckaphony!
Fox is the only outlet I’ve heard even mention that. The others are the ones ignoring that fact.
If Chuckleberry is the best we got to offer in 2012, I’m seceding my home from the union.
Yeah. Good point. They put on phony events that don’t reflect reality, and then can’t figure out why they’re living in unreality.
LOL
Huckabee got us McCain which got us Obama which got us an unmitigated disaster.
However, I just don’t see how any of our candidates could have taken Obama last year...zero lied so well that voters actually thought they were getting a fiscal conservative....at least now they know better.
I think Romney won in 2007 and Romney and Paul almost tied in 2008- we see how well they did.
I wish there was as much concern about ‘oh-ten’
as there is about ‘oh-12’. Much work to be done.
Actually, Willard won it last year. Which is even funnier.
I don’t know who these self-identified “values voters” are, but I’d love the chance to sell each of them a gently used automobile.
I’ve tried very hard to just ignore the whole thing, but frankly I find the whole charade so distasteful these days its hard for me not to remark on it. Bleh.
Surprised at the low turnout; only 597 votes.
And I'll be putting my family in a bathtub and setting sail for Malta.
Fox mentioned it, but you’re right, Fox did not emphasize that important fact.
I am not troubled by the straw poll at all, because all of the people in attendance will happily support her. I’m certain Huckabee won because he gives a good speech and this time only those in attendance could vote, so Romney couldn’t steal with Internet voters.
Anyone who is smelling the coffee knows its between Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney. And Sarah has been 100% on the money with everything she has said. Mitt comes off as a smooth talker which brings out too many negative associations.
Besides, I noticed they didn't do online voting this time around, and I think it's because they didn't want people outside the status quo being able to vote.
That’s why I posted the story. Not to bring attention to it, but to solicit some group catharsis.
These people are a joke. I’m glad Sarah missed it.
I don’t want a religious nut for president!
No, Mike. That is all.
Right you are. Watch Big Mike's eyes wander when he has an attarctive female guest on his show.
Clearly the followers of Jim Jones...I mean the Huckster... have worked out in their sheeple minds why the Huckster took off in the middle of the campaign to go to the Caymens..he says for a prior book signing commitment....who paid for wifey’s all expenses...multiple times to Las Vegas..the huckster penchant for not coming clean about his so called degree....and any defense of his goof ball son(s).
As to this Value voters group they must be strongly allied with the Taliban.....same mentality
Five-hundred and ninety-seven people voted.
Gov. Mike Huckabee 28 %
Romney 12.4 %
Gov. Tim Pawlenty 12.23 %
Sarah Palin 12.06 %
Rep. Mike Pence 11.89 %
People included in the poll who didnt make the top five: Rep. Ron Paul
Gov. Bobby Jindal
Newt Gingrich,
Rick Santorum.
Christian Socialists do not choose small government
Democrats will salivate at the chance to face him. The MSM will immediately paint him as an out of touch, christian zealot.
To post 5 - Not to worry. Mrs Palin’s candidacy (when announced) will make the GOP primaries a mere formality. No one in the GOP will get near her.
Huckabee is one of them, and he’s a visible figure on the cble news station many of these values voters watch. These values voters, many of them moderate “choice” voting Baptists, Catholics and Evangelicals, see Romney as a member of a religious cult, and their perception of Sarah Palin is largely shaped by the media. They see her as a drag on the Republican party.
No way the nominee will be the Huckster.
No WAY Jose!
I rather go parasalin with Sarah Palin!!
PALIN 2012!!
Other than Palin, what do we have except RINOs?
Sarah came in 5th?
Our problem isn’t the demonrats it’s the idiotic republicans.
Exactly
Senator Jim DeMint to name one, but I’m for Sarah should she choose to run.
Straw polls are a joke. It really is just seeing who can bus in the most of their supporters. Which is more of an exercise in who know how to get people to the poll instead of who the people really want to win.
