Nearly 100 members of the U.S. House are working in lockstep with the Obama administration to try to eliminate protections for traditional marriage in the United States with the "Respect for Marriage Act" that has just been introduced in Congress.
H.R. 3567 was introduced just days ago by U.S. Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-New York, and more than 90 co-sponsors.
"This legislation would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), a 1996 law which discriminates against lawfully married same-sex couples," Nadler said in a statement on his website. The proposal has been assigned to committee.
"The 13-year-old DOMA singles out legally married same-sex couples for discriminatory treatment under federal law, selectively denying them critical federal responsibilities and rights, including programs like social security that are intended to ensure the stability and security of American families," his statement continued.
"The introduction of the Respect for Marriage Act responds directly to a call from President Obama for congressional action on the issue. As the president recently confirmed: 'I stand by my long-standing commitment to work with Congress to repeal the so-called Defense of Marriage Act. It's discriminatory, it interferes with states' rights, and it's time we overturned it," the statement said.

Except for a few deep-blue states, they're NOT "lawfully married."
“The introduction of the Respect for Marriage Act responds directly to a call from President Obama for congressional action on the issue. Why? what about jobs stupid.
The congress and this marxist poser punk is destroying our economy. Crapping on long held international friends in lieu of terror nations. Trying to foist socialism on us and to beat all they drag out the homosexual agenda to mess up our children.
Hey the majority voted for these ass holes.
Whatever happened to 0bama’s assertion that he believed marriage was to be between one man and one woman? Oh, yeah... that was just a campaign statement. It’s expired now.
Nadler, Obama, gays, lesbians, tannies,
Just great guys all around!
American: when are ya gonna stand up and fight back
and call a trump a trump.
Obama is losing gay support, and, most importantly, gay fundraising (which is disproportionally large) due to the failure of repeal of 'don't ask, don't tell'
This is a bone they hope to sneak through while nobody is looking.
Man50D you support all this and fight against the Republican party. How do you explain yourself?
Marriage is a sacred institution blessed by the church and only between a man and a woman. No ifs, ands or butts.
“it interferes with states’ rights,”
coming from that faker that statement makes my stomach churn
How does forcing a state to recognize gay "marriage" protect states rights?
Respect for Marriage Act ......... Is it just me,or is the intent of most bills introduced by the libs the exact opposite of the title of the bill?
***Marriage is a sacred institution blessed by the church and only between a man and a woman. No ifs, ands or butts.***
Youe mean it was. The is the new liberal religion, The Obama religion.
Hey Nadler! According to your interpretation, this means that New York State should honor my Florida Concealed Carry Weapons permit. States Rights, according to your argument!
LOL! Never thought of it that way.
This is not news I wanted to read on a Sunday morning. This Administration and the liberals in Congress are the best sleight-of-handers I've ever seen. While the country is in a tizzy over health care and energy, they're federalizing college student loans and deconstructing the sacred institution of marriage. I'm sick, simply sick. Who will stand up anymore, folks? Who is going to put his or her life on the line to stand up to these Marxists? This no longer about words. Forceful acceptance of the liberal social mores are becoming a reality. This is a war of attrition and THEY'RE WINNING!
The Constitution is NOT negotiable!
You tell me little buddy, name which party that you support. I’m an Independent, so I’m not involved but I can tell that you are on a mission against conservatives.
I challenge you to position yourself coward!
Ding, Ding, Ding. We have a winner! This is spot on. If these crumbs had any respect for marriage they wouldn't be trying to protect every lessie, pervert, trannie, fornicator, or social malcontent that ever took a breath. All I'm waiting for is for “Baghdad Bob” Gibbs to explain that this is all for the good of the economy!
A few? Twenty nine states have constitutional bans on gay marriage and another 18 have laws against it.
This is the Dems plan on winning in 2010, between this, the amnesty act that will soon follow and the welfare class they will have all the support they need.
I chatted with my priest about it and he said that if they try to overturn DOMA, they will destroy their party.
You mean like the Defense of Marriage Act? Which did nothing to curtail the government subsidizing of divorce?
Do they want the GLT vote or the black vote? They must choose.
No it’s not just you - it is the work of their propaganda unit to always label bills in a way that gives the opposite appearance from what is in the bill.
In their world, it makes perfect sense though.
In their world, wrong is right.
Zero was raised by Frank Marshall Davis a noted pervert, now maybe Zero wants to marry Rahm in the Whitehouse?
Squat, would you bet your farm that obammy has never been with another man?
I know I’d bet he has.
Jive marxist punk that he is.
Let’s see if the tea-party patriots will demonstrate against this travesty with the same zeal. Somehow, I doubt it.
Support? Really!? This will sink the Dems in 2010.
I don't believe THIS attack on the DOMA will succeed at all, but now the public sees more than ever where a Democratic congress stands on the issue.
That leaves three states that allow "gay marriage." That is enough for the federal judiciary to impose "gay marriage" on the rest of the states.
Nadler is as anxious to destroy The United States as is zero. What should we expect?
What homosexuals do in Massachusetts is of no interest to me. If they move to Kansas and call themselves married then it's no skin off my nose. If they try to file their income taxes as married then they'll have problems.
Like you, I have no interest in the domestic arrangements of homosexuals. I am inclined to live and let live. However, that would be a mistake
It appears to me that the push for "gay marriage" is just one step in a larger, more threatening agenda. Once they can be married, homosexual activists will insist that all institutions in societyprivate as well as publicrecognize their unions. Those who refuse to do so will be labeled as bigots and haters.
Sooner or later, the civil rights machinery of the state and federal government will be brought to bear against churches and private individuals who "discriminate" against homosexuals.
That is not an outcome I want to see.
Boy even those in blue states are trying to get themselves thrown out. Did they miss that even California voted from traditional marriage?
Yep, Zero fiddles while the economy burns! It’s the economy STOOOPID!
“A few? Twenty nine states have constitutional bans on gay marriage and another 18 have laws against it.”
Right. Like I said, “EXCEPT for a few deep blue states.” All the rest ban it.
