Barack Obama changes American missile plans in Europe, causing fear among allies
The Telegraph ^ | September 20, 2009 | Philip Sherwell, Andrew Osborn and Leonard Doyle

For the Czech prime minister Jan Fischer, the news came in a call hastily placed by President Barack Obama, shortly after midnight on Thursday in Prague.

In Warsaw, his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk initially declined to answer the phone from the White House - as he guessed the purpose, from the unusual timing, and wanted to prepare a response.

Mr Obama last week unveiled the most dramatic national security reversal of his presidency by scrapping his predecessor George W Bush's planned anti-ballistic missile shield in eastern Europe.

With this volte face, the Obama administration has brought the curtain firmly down on the Bush doctrine of defiant diplomatic unilateralism and ushered in a new era in which America will seek partners and make compromises on the world stage.

Implementing national security reversals, scrapping the missile defense shield and jeopardizing U.S. allies in Eastern Europe...priceless.

For everything else, there's Obamacard.

I’m sure this poser could assure those fearful nations that the UN will be happy to watch as they are decimated by the nations we promised to protect them from. No matter that he said hwe would keep the missile program for them in 2008. LIAR

Fear among allies? How can that be? I thought they all loved obama and the world would be a safer more sane place once obama and not that cowboy Bush was President.

Odumbo has no idea what this does to his credibility with the rest of the world.

On April 5 2009 Odumbo was in Prague gave a speech, err teleprompter reading, saying he fully supported the missile defense system ...

Looks like he thinks shuck and jive works everywhere ...

I don’t think he cares. He’ll just make a speech saying what needs to be said - and that should be all we need, because, you know, he doesn’t lie. If something bad happens as a result, well, it’s all President Bush’s fault anyway.

But Europeans stuck their big fat noses in our business and campaigned for the black racist commie.

Surely they must be happy that the bully US is removing itself from defense/military entanglements with Europe. The Europeans ran their campaign for Dear Leader on reaction against Bush’s military activity in Iraq claiming dear leader would bring peace, peace, peace! Now that they helped orchestrate our oppression, they are afraid?

Not Eastern Europe.
Not the Poles or Czechs.

I will state this right now. If Poland is hit, BO will have a revolution on his hands. He better not fear the “Right-Wing Extremists” as much as the pissed off Poles, Czechs and Slovaks in this country.

We lived through oppression before and won’t have our people killed then sit quietly.

Mark my words.

“The tenor was quite different on Thursday morning when a senior State Department official phoned Russia's ambassador to the US with what, for Moscow, was very good news.”

So Supreme Leader Obama, your definition of “working with the world body” means to unilaterally please America's enemies and to simultaneously, unilaterally make enemies of America's friends and allies. It is obvious that you lack vision, are strategically challenged, are a danger to the Free World, disrespect the history of America, her sacrifises and her historical standing in the world. In other words you are a poor statesmen and do not deserve the stature and power you have been given.

What is frightening is that the US did not receive anything in return for dropping this missile defense. There was no negotiated quid pro quo.

And yet, at just about the same timeframe, General Electric has won the ability to market in Russia. Could these two items be related? If so, this is might scary stuff where we the US give away the defense of our allies in exchange for a commercial profit for a political benefactor.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090909/ap_on_re_us/us_us_europe_poll
Obama’s presidency has produced a less dramatic rise in support for U.S. polices in Central and Eastern Europe on average, where Bush enjoyed greater popularity than in Western Europe. Obama scored approval from almost nine of 10 people surveyed in Western Europe compared with about two-thirds in the four Central and Eastern countries surveyed: Bulgaria, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.

So here is one article, netmilsmom. If you google it, you will more. It is unbelievable given what Eastern Europe has been through. However, they like many America were fooled by the massive propaganda effort put on by the European and America media and the orchestrated crash of the economy when McCain was ahead.

This is one of the few things I agree with Obama on. I don’t think it should be our job to “defend” eastern Europe and surround Russia and assume the position of an aggressor against a country we should have no problems with. I would object to Russia setting up missiles in Latin america and we should object to it in Eastern europe. Why should we raise tensions we a strong and rich nation that could just as well be our friend?

I felt ill reading this

Whiteboard Archives

September 20, 2009 - 01:22PM The president arrived at Andrews AFB at just after 1 p.m., for what’s expected to be a 5-hour day of golf. The press is promised the names of the rest of the presidential foursome once they're done. (1:15 p.m.) September 20, 2009 - 12:20PM

OBAMA’S FIVE-SHOW MEDIA BLITZ – The president is “skeptical” about more troops for Afghanistan, plays defense on health care, and returns to his role as national media critic.

HEALTH CARE Obama calls the Baucus bill a “strong effort,” hedges on a union exception to a tax on “Cadillac” plans, says Medicare Advantage seniors won’t lose coverage under his plan, and insists that an individual mandate isn’t a tax. And he shares the First family’s flu plan.

Asked about McConnell’s claim that Republicans are “winning the health care debate,” Obama fires back: "Well, you know, they -- they were saying they were winning during the election, too."

Still, the GOP is continuing to hammer its message that his reform plan is a gov't takeover of health care, unmoved by Obama's interviews.

DOMESTIC POLICY The president backs away from his timeline for immigration reform, and rebuffs calls to nix the interrogation probe. He doesn’t see any jobs recovery this year, but he’s not taking off his White Sox rally just yet.

FOREIGN POLICY POTUS says the missile shield shift helped calm “paranoid” Russians and he says North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Il remains “healthy and in control.”

Ok what in the hell does this mean?

FOREIGN POLICY POTUS says the missile shield shift helped calm “paranoid” Russians and he says North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Il remains “healthy and in control.”

Surely they must be happy that the bully US is removing itself from defense/military entanglements with Europe.

Obviously Poland and the Czech Republic aren't, nor are Georgia or the Ukraine. But the sort of CND-loving Euro Leftists who populate the pages of the Guardian certainly are. They've arrogated to themselves the right to speak for all of Europe and their voices are the ones you hear, but in fact they do not.

They'll be dancing in the aisles at the UN this week. Don't be fooled. They can deliver nothing of substance to U.S. foreign policy except chronic disapproval and interminable demands. We'll be hearing a good deal of both.

It is very upsetting to see the US and our allies set so far back so quickly. Obama is supporting all of our enemies and abandoning all of our allies. I know the Left is like this but I never tought I would see them on the march like this. They are going to hurt us and a lot of countries.

Sara, seriously. Read it again yourself.

I opened your article and did a Ctrl F for the word “Poland”. It came up once here...

“Obama scored approval from almost nine of 10 people surveyed in Western Europe compared with about two-thirds in the four Central and Eastern countries surveyed: Bulgaria, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.” (you posted that, do you want me to read something else?)

Do you see that Poland is one of four countries? Do you see the proportion of those in Poland? No.

I can’t believe I’m arguing at all about ANYTHING in the State Run Media. Unless you have a Polish source, you’re believing spin.

Obama is not smart. His puppeteers are. But you’re correct. Removing the missile defense shield in Eastern Europe will not cover a square meter of Russian soil at all. Dubya’s missile shield would have covered the whole of European Russia.

Russia can pose a threat to the U.S., it’s just the polar bear is hibernating, waiting to pounce on the bald eagle or its flock.
