Police: NYC imam tipped off terror suspect
upi ^ | Sept. 21, 2009

Posted on 09/21/2009 7:47:30 AM PDT by george76

A New York City Muslim imam, who acted as a police informant, betrayed his handlers by tipping off a terrorism suspect...

Ahmad Wais Afzali, of the New York borough of Queens, was among three men arrested during the weekend in connection with an alleged bombing plot...

The documents show that Zazi, 24, of Denver, abruptly left New York and returned to Colorado after having wiretapped phone conversations with the imam, which the FBI alleges contained talk of how police were interested in Zazi...

Zazi attended an al-Qaida terrorism training camp in Pakistan and was arrested in possession of notes detailing how to make explosive devices

Yeah, but NOW they have lawyers. Isn't that wonderful? It's a matter of law enforcement.

Another reason to worry about the taxi or shuttle bus drivers.

Not just airplanes

I'm not willing to believe that 100%.

Could it be a pc push to credit a moslem with helping when it's not warranted? Just can't tell nowadays.

Another reason to worry about the taxi or shuttle bus drivers.

During the Viet Nam War taxi drivers, rickshaw drivers, and the like were the number 1 source of intelligence on American troop movements.

Almost every single stand was run by a VC Intelligence officer.

[this is a repost from another thread...]

Just heard something very disturbing on F&F - they are, in effect, sounding the ‘All Clear’ after the arrests of the Zazis and the NY Imam...

This is not only unsupported by published reports - it’s shortsighted and dangerous...

According to all the information that’s available, the FBI has arrested a ‘support cell’ - to date, none of the ‘shooters’ have been apprehended.. Think 9 backpacks - or 12 or 14, depending on which report; think 7 men trying to rent a truck — that’s a lot of very dangerous people accounted for..

Also, there have been no reports of any seizures of weapons or explosive materials — in other words, the ‘action cells’ are still intact out there, still armed, and still dangerous...

Yes, I know that there are lots of things going on, here, beneath the surface, but given the level and types of ‘leakage’ that has characterized this story from the beginning, I believe there should have been at least a ‘whiff’ by now.....

A final note — there’s an assumption that Zazi et. al., once captured, will sing like canaries and give up the rest of the organization.... Maybe under the ‘old regime’, this may have been true, but under the new-fangled ‘Kinder, Gentler, War on Terror’, these men have already lawyered up, and are, by all accounts, not talking....

Sorry, Fox News — you go ahead and breathe your sigh of relief, but I ain’t buying it, yet...

“how in the world did they talk over the phone knowning they were being
looked at and NOT think the phone was tapped? DUH!”

I would not totally discount the possibility that the arrested guys
are allied with real radical Islamic terrorists (Al-Queda, et al.),
but may have acted as “red herrings”.
That is, act suspiciously, drain FBI/domestic law enforcement resources
and keep their eyes/ears off the real functioning terror group.

Being a diversion to keep our anti-terrorists from pursuing the
real terrorists...that would not be a shocker.

There are effective methods for dealing with infiltators, but we are unwilling to employ them. The criminal justice system is not the right answer.

Muslims need to do this more often and turn in the terrorists, or the backlash they get will only increase. I know, not every muslim is a terrorist, but the vast majority of terrorists are muslim.

possible.

but in my line of work, the simplest explanation is usually the right one. criminals are stupid and are unable to keep their mouths shut.

they eventually seek help from people who are not as interested in criminal activity as they are.

informants are everywhere. i've arrested people for tiny little charges and they are ready to give up their mother to get out of a night in jail.

it is very difficult to plan/carry out a terror plot in todays NYC for these and many other reasons.

He didn’t turn in the terrorist, he told him the Feds were after him...

“In court records released Sunday, authorities allege Afzali, 37, tipped off suspected plotter Najibullah Zazi that federal agents were looking to arrest him and then lied to police about what he had done, The New York Times reported Monday.”

I think you misunderstand the post. The muslim informant ratted out to the terrorist what he had learned from the FBI about the coming raid. He wasn’t helping out, he showed his true colors. He is also under indictment from what an article that was posted yesterday said.

The FBI gets almost all of its arrests from tips by informers.

But there’s a real problem finding Muslim informers. I think the CIA and the FBI both have had this problem, and that their “informers” are largely, or almost entirely, double agents, who are really working for the advancement of Islam.

When we first went into Iraq, the CIA proved totally incapable of tracking down any al Qaeda agents in Iraq. Military intelligence took over, and immediately did better.

But I think that the Pentagon, the CIA, and the FBI are stuffed full of Muslim agents who are working for the other side. Just google the name “Hesham Islam” for an instance. There are plenty more of his kind working for the government.

Two truths:

Liberals invariably accuse others of doing what they themselves are doing.

They are doing it far more, and with more malice.

Why on earth would the police share sensitive information with ANY Muslim, let alone an “iman?” Someone needs to be fired here. Perhaps they are believing the government's own PC propaganda about Islam being an “religion of peace” with only a handful of extremists advocating and practicing violence. The fact is that none of them can be fully trusted.

I am infuriated. Where’s the anger? Do the American people need to have their family members maimed and killed by these mutts before they get up in arms?

This muslim terrorist was the same guy who greeted the infidel everyday when he sold them coffee and took their money. How many others are out there who smile in our faces, exchange morning pleasantries while all the while they are plotting the most evil, barbaric “punishment” for us kaffirs?

Remember this next time you’re riding in your taxi, airport shuttle and when you visit your corner coffeeman or newstand.

Trust no one.

But these are not criminals, they are enemy combatants, spies, etc. Those tend not to be quite as dumb as ordinary criminals. Worse they are religiously motivated. (Although that does make them likely to talk to an Iman who might have a different view of the "Will of Allah").
