I know Doug, have had lunch with both he and his wife. Brilliant scholar, Humble man. But for the life of me I have no idea, what happened to him. The only thing I can sense is that he saw his shot at the supremes and he compromised himself. His reward for this? Malta. I feel so deeply sad for him. It goes to show you that there is a difference between intelligence and wisdom.

Suckers for words. That’s the only explanation for people like Kmiec. They love to hear themselves expound tirelessly, they love to hear con men like Obama expound tirelessly. Little things like Obama’s four votes to kill innocent abortion survivors can be explained away in a torrent of words. They wallow in them like drunks on a binge or fat ladies finishing off the last chocolate. Truth means nothing. As long as the soothing words keep massaging that pleasure center in the mind, that’s all that matters.

Doug was deceived by the spirit of anti-christ and is now considered to be a heretic or schismatic by many in the Church. I personally believe he should be publically rebuked by Rome and excommunicated if he does not submit to discipline. Doug cannot serve two masters without hating one of the other. God’s word teaches about people like him calling them “double-minded” and who are unstable in their ways.

Mr Obama asked Prof. Kmiec: "What would cause a mother to contemplate taking the life of a child? It has to be something awful. It has to be a woman without shelter, without insurance, without the next meal on the table."

Only one with a disordered mind would kill a baby.

When asked "What would we do with all those babies if we had no abortions?," Mother Theresa said "Give them to me."

Obama is a junior professor on training wheels running our country. Prof. Kmiec is a heretic telling us how to solve problems of the world; problems he, himself, avoided by becoming a professor, in my humble opinion.

Even though there were areas of disagreement, Mr Obama pointed out the responsibility of government to provide a family wage, to care for the environment and to provide healthcare for the uninsured.

Is it indeed the teaching of the church that the government bears responsibility for these things? I think I know the answer.

And the followup question would be: How does a supposedly intelligent Catholic get so far off the rails?

What a ridiculous argument. Gee, not everybody saw slavery the same way, either. Or, more recently--not everyone sees health insurance reform the same way, either. Why doesn't Obama work to change "hearts and minds" on health insurance, rather than ramming through legislation? If it's good enough for the unborn, it's good enough for the uninsured, right?

You realize, of course, that this is a mental disorder.
There is an oppositional-defiant form of obsessive compulsive disorder in which
the person gets a charge out of saying and doing outrageous things which upset
and agitate people. This is a very bad case of that.

Usually it hits a formerly very scrupulous nun or priest who at some point can't stop
talking about sex in very graphic details. The dorks who come out as supportive
of pro-abortion politicians display similar hysteria. They get this smirk as they tell
pro-lifers they are supporting the abortionist. That's oppositional defiant disorder.
Not surprising for it to appear in a left-brained law professor, already with a lot
of control issues, rigid character armor, and elaborate routine of defense mechanisms.
Nor surprising that it is presented as an elaborate, complex, intellectual ethical and legal
theory with a lot of casuistry, hair splitting, quodlibets, and annotations, claimed to be
the result of an arduous and heroic personal intellectual achievement, accompanied by
smugness, nose raising, self-righteous projections, accusations, moralistic lecturing, and
assertions of moral and intellectual superiority combined with a self-pitying persecution
complex. Hubris. Repetitive and obsessive hand washing would not be surprising.

The disaster of Bush-Cheney really drew them out.
Along with Obama's deranged messianic posturing.

Kmiec is obvisouly confused about Catholic Social Teaching, and especially about the hugely important distinction between "society" and "the state."

If we say that "society" must strive for the common good in relation to healtcare (or water quality, or cinema and broadcast entertainment, or neighborhood safety, or early childhood education, or anything else), we must emphasize that "society" consists of every form of human organization, beginning with the marital couple and the family, and extending through workplaces, businesses, nonprofits, labor organizations, trade associations, professional groups, parishes, schools, fraternal and civic associations, philanthopic and charitable groups, clubs, partnerships, city and county governments, etc. etc. etc. with special emphasis on that third etcetera.

All of these are not, collectively, "the state"; they are prior to and more important than "the state": they constitute "society." And "the state" cannot justly invade and absorb the functions of "society."

It is because "society" must strive for the common good in relation to healthcare, that spouses care for each other in sickness and in health; that parents care for dependent children; that adult children care for aged and dependent elders; that parishes hire parish nurses. It is because of "society's" duty to care for the sick, that Catholic religious orders the United States in the last 150 years founded and staffed the largest non-government hospital system in the world.

Part of "society's" role is exemplified by employers offering group insurance coverage; students deciding to enter the medical professions; inventors seeking patents for new therapeutic devices, and investors committing money to the development, production, and sale of these devices---as I said, "etc. etc."

showing hundreds and thousands of people individually and jointly doing their thing, resulting in people in their "common associations" achieving the "common good."

This multiplex, layered society, each unit having its own proper gifts, opportunities, and obligations, is the context for all the Church's teachings on Social Justice.

Somebody should tell Doug Kmiec.

(Yes, I know it’s lame, but...) Popes no longer excommunicate Catholics for the sins the may have committed. Even Popes can not presume to know what truely lies in a man’s heart. Politicians and other individuals who commit unpardonable crimes like performing abortions and advancing the cause of abortion are said to excommunicate themselves “latae sententiae.” Sure, it’s less fufilling for the rest of us, but excommunication was always about the relationship between one individual and God anyway.
