I am naive, why use a NO knock search warrant?
I just think if you go barreling in to a home you’ll get shot.
If you call out police, search warrant usually not.
Can ya edumacate me?

Several no-knock search warrants have
gone bad. Some are very sad stories.
If you google that phrase you get pages of examples.

Here’s an idea:
Wait for Mr. Gonzalez to go for his morning stroll. As he walks by, jump from behind the bushes and nab him. Then go into the house and execute your search warrant.
Wow! I’m a genuis.

From the case you cited (not this thread's event):
"Emergency dispatchers had initially said the victim was a police officer shot in a home invasion, an incorrect report likely fed by Christina Korbe's call to 911. A no-knock warrant is essentially a legitimized-by-authority home-invasion. There were children at this home; why don't the authorities consider this?

“The shooting comes more than two months after Jersey City police Det. Marc DiNardo was shot in the face storming an apartment where two armed robbery suspects were holed up. Four other officers were wounded in the gun battle and the suspects were killed.
DiNardo was taken off life support and pronounced dead one day before his 38th birthday.”

The Pittsburgh story was - still is - a big story here. IIRC it wasn't the first time the perp had been in trouble. There were kids in the home and it does seem like a bad idea by the agents and police.

A no-knock warrant is essentially a legitimized-by-authority home-invasion. It's not "legitimate," it's just "legal" - big difference.

To: sergeantdave
Heres an idea: Wait for Mr. Gonzalez to go for his morning stroll. As he walks by, jump from behind the bushes and nab him. Then go into the house and execute your search warrant.
The feds could have done the same thing to arrest David Koresh in Waco, but they wanted to take the media along on for the first raid at the compound.

Well, they use them because knocking will give drug dealers the opportunity to flush away evidence. It also allows desperate occupants the time to gather all his/her weapons about him and prepare to shoot it out.

No Knock warrants should be otlawed. There are numerous examples of thugs wearing police uniforms and kicking in doors every year.
If anyone kicks in my door, I’m shooting first and asking questions later.
Nobody is welcome in my home unless they get an invite.

Um, excuse me? If I happen upon a gun fight, I’m certainly going to keep driving, particularly if the Police are already there. OTOH, if a SWAT team bursts through my front door at 2:25 am, I believe my reaction would be similar to Senor Gonzalez, except I have more firepower.
