The Daily News-Miner has had its agreements and disagreements with now-former Gov. Sarah Palin at various points during her time serving the state of Alaska. We have tried to maintain respect for the office of governor and to be generally civil when discussing Mrs. Palin, her policies and the actions she took while serving as governor. The same has been true for the time since she left office.
Today I must apologize to Mrs. Palin personally and on behalf of the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner for the choice of words used on the bottom of Wednesday’s front page regarding her speaking engagement in Hong Kong this week to a group of global investors.
We used offensive language — “A broad in Asia” — above a small photograph of the former governor to direct readers inside the newspaper to a full story of her Hong Kong appearance.
There can be no argument that our use of the word “broad” is anything but offensive. To use this word to describe someone of the stature of the former governor — who is also the former vice presidential nominee of the Republican Party — only adds to the anger that many people appropriately feel.

Apparently the Editor heard from Sarah’s attorney.
It’s nice to actually see a real apology. One with acceptance of the wrongful act and contrition instead of the “if anyone was offended...” crap.

The fact it was published in the first place, and that they would NEVER do that to Pelosi, says far more about the journalistic integrity of this rag than any apology can cover.
I suspect it was supposed to be “Abroad” not “A broad”. But it’s good they apologized.
Anyway, it’s a rather good apology.

My guess is readers pulled their subscriptions and gave them a piece of their mind. Money talks and B.S. walks.
Liberals have gone too far with the insults. They crossed the line and it's too late to backpedal now. We have had as much as we can take. People are getting furious and voting with their wallet. When a newspaper loses their readership, or an actor loses his audience, they are out of business.

Based on the contriteness level of the apology, probably was intentional, or at least allowed to be printed deliberately.
Gee why didn't they really push it and write what the rest of the liberal media was calling her during the campaign...something that started with c and ended with t?

Yep, newspapers are an endangered specie. Why will young people subscribe when they can get all the news they can consume for free. Once readers drop away, advertisers soon follow. Lower number of readers leads to lower ad rates or no ads by local merchants. It becomes a downward cycle.
The only buyers these people have are older readers, my age or older, who read the paper out of habit. The tactile nature of it—the process rather than the content. I have become angry at my local paper (fairly conservative one at that)and cancelled my subscription. They always call back an offer me a killer rate to renew. Death by a thousand cuts.
Likewise, when my local paper defended the local mayor’s corruption—he’s still in office, by the way—and the “good old boy” network, I quit subscribing. I won’t even take it for free.
The Daily News-Miner just found out what it’s like to have to eat your own BS,must have been swamped with complaints.
Yes. I suspect it was a deliberate double entendre that just happened to be grossly offensive. Sometimes the writer is so pleased with how clever it is that he or she doesn't see the flip side. But I'm only speculating.
He’s only sorry he got called on it. Boyce’s bio says he’s from southern California. Given the level of hostility exhibited towards Palin by News Miner, I’m sure he and the rest of the staff thought A Broad in Asia was a pretty funny headline, and decided against using C**t or B***h instead. Maybe Boyce and his staff will sponsor a Hang Sarah Palin in Effigy event for Halloween, as sort of a tribute to those in California who did just that last year.
I’m sure Palin will accept the apology, because that is how she is.

Democrats were openling calling her a c&nt during the 2008 election. No other word would be so close as a female version of the n-word.
And yet the media just collectively laughed.
