Sarah Palin, outlying her "common sense conservative" foreign policy views in Hong Kong yesterday, denounced her former running mate's push to cut new F-22 Raptor fighter jets, an efficiency move in which Senator John McCain allied himself with the White House and against many other Republican hawks.
"Though we are engaged in two wars and face a diverse array of threats, it is the defense budget that has seen significant program cuts and has actually been reduced from current levels!" Palin said, according to a portion of the private speech I obtained. Defense spending will, in fact, increase this year over last, but the Obama administration has cut back from a budget released at the end of the Bush Administration.
"Despite the need to move men and material by air into theaters like Afghanistan, the Obama Administration sought to end production of our C-17s, the work horse of our ability to project long range power. Despite the Air Force saying it would increase future risk, the Obama Administration successfully sought to end F-22 production at a time when both Russia and China are acquiring large numbers of next generation fighter aircraft. It strikes me as odd that Defense Secretary Gates is the only member of the Cabinet to be tasked with tightening his belt," Palin said.
McCain said earlier this year:
[G]ven our very best planning scenarios, does producing any more F-22s best ensure that our current fighter fleet will bridge to a smaller, more lethal fifth-generation fighter capability? In my view, the answer is, no.
Palin's views aren't a departure from the Republican Party line. Indeed, they move her closer toward Republican orthodoxy, and away from another of her former running mate's views that sometimes rankled on the right.
McCain might have actually won the election if he had turned Sarah loose and let her fill in for him on the last debate.
Who would possibly believe that Palin is somehow McCain II?
Sarah goes to Hong Kong, challenges the Chinese and praises America.
Obonga goes to New York, apologizes for America, denounces Israel and kow-tows to a bunch of tin horn dictators and thugs.
Just sayin............
He also could have won by fighting tooth and nail against the $800 Billion bailout. Alas, he floundered and was its cheerleader.
Absolutely, let Granpa Simpson be Erkle’s lickspittle step and fetch.
Yep, America voted for Palin, not McCain. Palin is not for illegal alien Amnesty, McCain is. Palin understands global warming is a hoax, and McCain believes in it. Palin stands on her beliefs and principles, and McCain is willing to ‘reach acrosss the aisle’ ....
McCain voted for the bailouts, and thus ended his run on the WH.
Good!
“Sarah goes to Hong Kong, challenges the Chinese and praises America...Obonga goes to New York, apologizes for America, denounces Israel and kow-tows to a bunch of tin horn dictators and thugs.”
Well put! That sez a ton!
Why fight McKennedy?
Nobody cares what he (or his dipsy bimbo daughter) thinks about anything.
Mrs. Palin isn’t ready to be CinC / POTUS, nor will she be in 2012....but she is completely right on this subject of the need for / more F-22s.
“Just sayin............”
And liking what you are saying...can’t be repeated too much
“She is completely right on this subject of the need for more F-22s.”
she is completely right on this subject of the need for more F-22s.
she is completely right on this subject of the need for more F-22s.
she is completely right on this subject of the need for more F-22s.
she is completely right on this subject of the need for more F-22s.
Can’t say it enough!!!!!!!!!
I’ll wait to see Palin’s statements on those topics. So far, not so good.
On other threads, I've recently been told that McCain was a great patriot and would always support a strong military. The only real patriot on that ticket was Sarah.
McCain is a patriot. Just not a very bright one.
She is infinitely more qualified than obama on ALL counts.
Whether she can win, who knows, but again, she is MORE READY to be CommInChief and POTUS than obama ever thought...
The wider the divide, the better off she’ll be.
it’s hard to imagine how they could have stayed on the same page if RINO Johnny had gotten elected
Agreed...I'm very happy to see this one. Though I have generally respected McCain's stances on the military I could not understand his position on the F-22, he is looking no further than the end of his nose.
The Left’s new alchemy: turn guns to butter. New new Dark Ages.
We have our Maggie.
She is definitely not wobbly in any sense.
Okay, Sarah, past time to tell us what you really think about Amnesty!!

“McCain voted for the bailouts, and thus ended his run on the WH.”
Yep. Had McCain stood against bailouts, he’d be the president.

Yep
Palin broke with McCain in November 2008. The question now is whether he will be following her, because that’s how it’s going to be.
“Palin is not for illegal alien Amnesty, McCain is.”
Really, then why does she insist that McCain/Kennedy Amnesty is the way to go??? She also doesn’t approve of workplace raids to root out illegally working aliens.
[snip] PALIN: . We - our policy - John McCain has been so clear with his policy and it makes a lot of sense too. We secure our borders first. But then with a comprehensive approach we must deal humanely with those who are here, and we must allow the steps to be taken to protect the families of those who are here, maybe as illegal immigrants today.....”
UNIVISION: Talking about - still with immigration - ICE has arrested and deported almost five thousand undocumented immigrants in the last year, separated many Hispanic families. Would you support stopping these raids until comprehensive immigration reform could be passed in Congress?
Palin: Well, the unfortunate thing of course about the raids is that it does affect the families involved here. Parents and children are separated and thats tragic. (No, that is by choice of the alien, Sarah - they can take their kids and we pay for it!)
Univision: To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?
Sarah Palin: I do because I understand why people would want to be in America.
Univision: As governor, how do you deal with them? Do you think they all should be deported?
Sarah Palin: There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant - there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants - not only economically is that just an impossibility but thats not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue that we face with illegal immigration.”
Now we find out that SarahPac has donated only to candidates who are for amnesty....like John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Orrin Hatch, etc. Sarah came out strongly against Obamacare, but never objected to the fact that illegal aliens would get the benefits.
She isn’t? Why?
And Obama was? “I” had move foreign policy experience than Obama.
WRT McCain, serving on active duty as a junior officer is not what I call foreign policy experience. He got up every morning and did what he was told.
A sitting Governor, however, has foreign policy responsibility, especially when that Governor’s state borders a potential (and former) foreign adversary.
McCain is a complete RINO on most issues and a hard core democrat on the rest.
(At least we agree on the F-22)
"Indeed, they move her closer to Republican orthodoxy"
Ben Smith should have said
Indeed, they move her closer to Republican NeoCon orthodoxy.
The NeoCons are within Palin's closest circle of advisors and they hate Realist Bob Gates. They hate that Brent Scowcroft and Henry Kissinger are advising Obama
It was pretty clear that the only thing Palin disagreed with McCain on during the campaign was drilling. That was the one issue they openly admitted disagreement. Whether it was for appearance sake or she really agreed with him on the rest, I don’t know. But, for whatever it’s worth (probably not much), she did not oppose his positions on immigration, TARP and all the rest.
And Obama was/is????????
I would too. Detente was such a wonderful policy.
Maybe you can justify and rationalize the republican bloodbaths of 2006 and 2008 that the NeoCons gave you?
Who are the neocons? Anyone who supported taking out Saddam?
BTW, "taking out Saddam" was only half of the NeoCon plan, the other half was installing Malichi.
Answer my questions and I’ll answer yours.
I suggest you start at the Project for a New American Century.
Reach across the isle? I read that comment a lot, and have said it myself often enough. No, he resides on the other side of the isle. It’s his old home address (R) that he simply refuses to change. Leadership should change it for him.
I recognize two names on that list of the guys running that site. None look like elected politicians.
Michele Bachmann is pro amnesty?

I don't speak MEXICAN LINGO!!
She "insists" that is the way to go? Do you have a post election source for that?
******************
Agreed. This is not only a smart move, I believe it's sincere.
Yep.
Romney supporters.
What would it take to convince you?
Do you recall the story of his boat trip to Alaska and introduction to Palin?
Or, leading the conversation in a different direction, do you recall that Murdoch sold the Weekly Standard to Philip Anschutz, who bought the San Francisco Examiner in 2004. Well, Anschutz inherited a lot of money and is the richest TheoCon in the world, and spends a lot of money to subsidize the Discovery Institute.
Given the intersection of many events, and putting on a tinfoil hat, we can safely say that the Reagan coalition is definately dead and the new GOP coalition is between the NeoCons and TheoCons.
Do you think that Dick Cheney would consent to running as Palin's VP?
Especially in the area of Amnesty and secure borders.
If you mean social conservatives then that pretty much is the conservative movement, the rest all play a part but they are smaller in numbers, most non-social conservatives already vote democrat.
