Update | 10:07 p.m. Here is a video report produced by my colleagues Jeffrey DelViscio and Nazila Fathi on the protest that stretched across the Brooklyn Bridge on Thursday. The report features an interview with Hadi Ghaemi, the director of the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran. Mr. Ghaemi said: The focus today will be to turn Brooklyn Bridge green, and to provide solidarity and let the Iranian people know everyone is standing up with them, hearing them, watching what is happening to them and to also make sure that Ahmadinejads visit to New York as uncomfortable as possible.
Update | 3:07 p.m. Here is more on Thursdays protest on the Brooklyn Bridge from Nazila Fathi:
Hundreds of Iranian protesters marched across the Brooklyn Bridge carrying a mile-long green banner to show their solidarity with demonstrators in Iran. The protest coincided with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejads trip to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly.
They chanted, Ahmadinejad is not Irans president, and hey-hey ho-ho, Ahmadi go home, referring to Mr. Ahmadinejad.
This was the third day of protests organized by the Iranian diaspora in North America, the largest since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which appeared to be the strongest sign of unity against the government of Mr. Ahmadinjad.
Protesters had come from all over North America. Some 25 bikers rode to New York from Toronto wearing white T-Shirts that said Human Rights for Iran. We thought by riding from New York to Toronto it would be a good way to raise awareness about the human rights violations that are taking place in Iran, said Puria Lotfi, 30, a student at University of Toronto.

Uh, oh. That means free people are STILL a bit pissed off? Good.
Please give Charlie Gibson a second or two. Ya see, despite living in that same city, he may not have gotten the morning paper.
I suspect the security for him during the visit is pretty tight. The last thing we want is for him to be assassinated here in the US. Not that the assassination itself would be a bad thing, but having it happen here would just elevate him to martyrdom in his home country.
IMHO, he should never have been allowed to come here in the first place. I’m sure the irony of it lost on our liberal friends and the despots who come for the annual gathering, but I find it interesting that we have a country that is so sure of itself that it can welcome these guys and let them spew their vitriol and hatred directed at the host country. Let someone try that in one of the country’s that we saw represented here this week!
If the good people of Iran were to overthrow their mad leader our f-ing marxist would try to re-establish Ahmedinajab as the leader.
Yeah, I really hate this assclown so I guess I’m a racist.
go home and fight people. the Minutemen grabbed their guns and went to meet the Kings troops on the green. They didn’t go to Paris to protest.
