BIG CREEK, Ky. (AP) - A part-time census worker found hanging in a rural Kentucky cemetery was naked, gagged and had his hands and feet bound with duct tape, said an Ohio man who discovered the body two weeks ago.
Jerry Weaver of Fairfield, Ohio, told The Associated Press on Friday that he was among a group of relatives who discovered the body of 51-year-old Bill Sparkman on Sept. 12.
"The only thing he had on was a pair of socks," Weaver said. "And they had duct-taped his hands, his wrists. He had duct tape over his eyes, and they gagged him with a red rag or something.

This was a horrible crime. Whoever did this should get the death penalty.
“They” did it, huh? Hmmmm.
Scary.
Things are getting weirder and weirder.
Absolutely. It was a lynching plain and simple. Apparently there are a lot of drug operations in the area.
Motive?
like the murder of the Yale student, this sure is getting an awful lot of rotation.
Sounds like a serial killer
Drugs would be my guess too. Some of these people are really bad news about as evil as it gets.
Anyone know if he was a local???
Sounds like an erotic scene gone wrong like Carradine.
Perhaps he found the link between Blagojovich and Obama.

That’s what I’m thinking, too, Bunny. My mom is an artist....and in the ‘old days’ we used to like to roam around country roads to take pictures of old barns in different communities. Once.....we pulled up on a house where all the cars had their ‘trunks up’. We got the HELL out of there....quick! That was YEARS ago. No TELLING what’s going on, now.
Someone discovered the source of the Obamaloon and his cabinet’s hemp.
And that person committed “suicide”.
The victim had their Census ID badge taped to their neck, and the word “fed” written on their chest in felt-tip pen. How long do you think it will take the media to try and pin this on “right wing extremist antigovernment teabaggers”?
I don’t think you are grasping the full picture. This is way scarier than an plain old sicko killing someone.
This is a body being hung up as a warning...MEDIEVAL STYLE. Or mafia style. This is like those beheadings we’ve been hearing about in mexico. Creepy sh1t.
Mayhap they were comparing spare tires? ;-)
I suggest we get Ken Starr on this right away. Five years from new we’d be assured that he did commit suicide and the good folks of Kentucky wouldn’t have to worry about it.
I think of those two little girls who were shot multiple times while they were walking on a country road in Oklahoma one or two years ago.
Locals say that there are many meth labs in that part of OK. Apparently this infects many parts of the US, not just urban areas anymore. :(
Mayhap they were comparing spare tires? ;-)

More like ‘jugs’, hon. ;-)
Rural areas are actually best for a meth lab. A while back I read a story about a realtor finding the remains of a meth lab in a house she was selling. Apparently empty homes are ideal for one time use meth labs.
They never did take kindly to “Revenuers” in the KY & TN hills.
Gosh....how tragic. :(
I would guess that folks down there thought he was snooping for reasons other than the census.
Drugs are grown in that forest from what I have heard.
Whenever drugs are involved unspeakable crimes happen.
I’m guessing he stumbled on a meth lab and “saw to much” or on a Mexican drug / illegal alien smuggling gang hideout, who then decided to make an example out of a lone unarmed “gringo” federale, Mexican style.
I don’t think so. I think they tied him up and suffocated him with a plastic bag. then hung the corpse as a message.
The police said yesterday that they hadn’t ruled out suicide. If all this was true, they would have ruled it out?
It was very sad. I still hope for justice.

Not if the hands and feet were bound, it's not. Also, the person who found him said his census ID was taped to his shoulder.
They have already pinned this on "anti-government" types as they also throw in "too early to know for sure". There have been several articles.
That’s interesting. But how do you draw from that that it is not drug related?
Thanks.
I don’t believe for a second this was done by an organized group of drug producers. They would know the wrath of God would be poured out on them over this. This was done by an individual (or 2 at most). Most likely a serial murderer type. Organized drug producers would have made the guy just disappear. The last thing they want is federal law enforcement snooping around. This was done by somebody who wanted the body to be found. Not in some attempt to scare others away, but simply to make themselves feel powerful by making the “ants” (normal people) scurry around looking for an answer. In the mean time, look for the media to use this as to attack conservatives.
Are they being obtuse, or are there so many laws and rules now on what we can say and how we can say it that the only safe thing to say is the stupidest possible thing?
Anyway, I doubt this is drug related ... if there was a pot farm or meth lab in the area the last thing they would want is for cops to be swarming the place.
I don’t know if Ky has the death penalty.....If it does not....send the bastards to SuperMax!
It a very bizarre crime.
I don’t.
I only meant this was NOT a plain old lynching. They weren’t attempting a vigilante style justice. They were attempting scare tactics and thuggery. They made a sign out of his corpse. Plain and simple.
there will be more of this kind of thing.
~snip~
I learned a thing or two from ol Charlie dont you know
You better stay away from Copperhead Road
I think you give these drug dealers way too much credit for intelligence. I remember quite a few years ago a bunch of teenagers happened on a group of drug smugglers near Panama City, FL.
The smartest thing they could have done was just scare them off and get out of the area. Instead they murdered them all and eventually got caught. It did take a long time tho.
Apparently there are a lot of drug operations in the area.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
So?...When I hear the term “drug operations”, what do I think of first? Liberal? or Conservative?
I wonder if he stumbled across a still or a meth lab. Mountain people don’t like “revenoors” anyway, and it’s a pretty broad classification.
This incident could very well have nothing to do wuth the fact the victim was a census taker. Maybe he was a government informant (against druggies, thugs, terrorists, what have you), and the fact he had “fed” scrawled on his body could refer to that association.
Weaver said the body was about 50 years from a 2003 Chevrolet ...
^^^
Sloppy writing.
Point taken.
The fact that he was blindfolded and had his hands tied behind his back makes suicide very unlikely.
Of Fortunately, once they made the sale of Sudafed and the other cold and flu drugs that have the stuff meth heads want in them, the problem has gotten a little better. Except now the drug cartels are growing pot in the National Forests that abound here and in northen California.
Goes to show that the back-woods can have some pretty scary predators in them--and they aren't the four-legged variety.
Is this the first we’ve heard about the duct tape over his hands and feet and eyes? I didn’t pick up those details before.
So whom did the rednecks think the man was? why did they do this? Dear God....when they find them....I think I will go down to the jail and throw rotten vegetables at them!!!
Perhaps he came upon a meth lab, and drug dealers thought he was a narcotics detective just pretending to be a census taker... Scary stuff. Some people are just evil.
I always liked that song. When I was a kid, my parents had a cabin in the ozarks in the middle of the woods. It was on a hill. the locals called the hill “copperhead hill”. The locals acted like the characters in that song.
