TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran test-fired missiles on Sunday to show it was prepared to head off any military threat, four days before the Islamic Republic is due to hold rare talks with world powers worried about its nuclear ambitions.
The missile maneuvers coincide with escalating tension in Iran's nuclear row with the West, after last week's disclosure by Tehran that it is building a second uranium enrichment plant.
News of the nuclear facility south of Iran added a sense of urgency to a crucial meeting in Geneva on Thursday between Iranian officials and representatives of six major powers, including the United States.
An Iranian official warned "fabricated Western clamor" over the new plant would negatively affect the talks at which the six powers want Iran to agree to open its facilities to inspection to prove its programme is for power and not nuclear weapons.
Ali Asghar Soltanieh, Iran's IAEA envoy, said, referring to the six powers' concern over the new plant: "This Western approach will have a negative impact on Iran's negotiations with the 5+1 countries."
U.S. President Barack Obama said on Saturday the discovery of the secret nuclear plant in Iran showed a "disturbing pattern" of evasion by Tehran that added urgency to its talks on Thursday with world powers.
Obama warned Iran on Friday it would face "sanctions that bite" if it did not come clean.
Earlier this month, Obama dropped a Bush-era plan to deploy missiles in Poland that had been proposed as a shield amid concerns Iran was trying to develop nuclear warheads it could mount on long-range missiles.
Iran's missile firepower "gives us the possibility to confront every kind of threat with a long-lasting defense deterrence," Iranian General Hossein Salami said on Sunday.

Iran laughs at obama and his warnings. 0 will ignore this latest action just as he has all the rest from every country that wants us terminated.
Thereafter:

DOUBLE SECRET PROBATION
“to show it was prepared to head off any military threat”
absolute propaganda.
I've been wondering how long the Strait of Hormuz is going to stay open and when the price of oil is going over $200/barrel.
This is the diplomatic equivalent of giving Obama the bird.
That would do wonders for our economic recovery. /s
I see another strongly worded letter in our future.. maybe he’ll convene a panel to discuss the use of and even approve exclamation points this time.
If that fails they might have to consider the use of bold text.
He has known about it since he assumed office but has done NOTHING but make strategic decisions that will allow an Iranian A Bomb to wreck total havoc on the world...also allowing BO to declare Martial Law here.
When the Strait closes, the estimates vary between $800-$2500 a barrel depending on whether the conflict stays conventional or goes nuclear...
In short: airlines and long haul trucking shut down - being unable to afford fuel costs - gasoline goes to $35 a gallon.
Shorter version: no food in the grocery stores...
“many will die”
That’s the general idea. Or how to make the US equal to all without even trying...
NO BUGS BUNNY SHOWS BEFORE MORNING CALL TO PRAYER!!!
Yes. Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Obama change the missile shield defense Bush put into place because there was no longer an Iranian threat???

‘Post’ learns: UK chief of staff pays quiet visit
For the first time in over a decade, the British chief of defense staff, Air Chief Marshall Sir Jock Stirrup, visited Israel earlier this week for a short meeting with IDF Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi and other senior officers, The Jerusalem Post has learned.
This is some serious SH?? - US and UK cant play the Iraq games with this dude.
Fox News reporting this morning that Iran will next test the Shabib 3 missile within hours - 2,000k range (Israel within range)
I fully expect Israel will take advantage fo the Juniper Cobra three tier anti-missle coverage in October, to launch on Iran
Call me crazy but I’ll bet that if Israel makes a move on Iran the US will back them up. At least I would like to believe that. And no I didn’t vote Zero I voted for Palin.
obama will not have a choice once the shooting starts -
Iran will fire all the missles they have left in the direction of Israel and US Forces in Iraq...
If he sits on his hands then - look for a “palace coup”
Oh, Ahmadinejad and the mullahs are so afraid of Obama. Obama is mocked in song —

ugh
Iran just gave the middle finger to Obama.

AND Obama's recent appeasement of the Russians on missile defense!
At least it would provide some entertainment :)

So how will Obama spin it to say he inherited this?
Thank God Iran is a peaceful state. :)
Obama really is changing our image in the world. :)
If you haven't done, go to Youtube and listen to Obama's UN speech.
Then go to Youtube and listen to Bibi's UN Speech.
It wouldn't surprise me if you changed your bet.
I’m not worried about Iran and obama. What worries me is what obama is doing and is planning on doing to the United States of America.
Can we just send very small, tactical nukes to every major military installation and be done with it?
Now we’ll target the missile TELs next time.
Welcome to the presidency, Obamba.
I don’t believe we are an obomination, and I give our military more credit than you ( or at least it comes off that ay to me) when it comes to “following lawfully given orders”. Just a gut, but my bet is we go with Israel, and the WH may have a different leader than it does now if $hit were to hit the fan.
I was merely commentting on the possible results of a conflict on our economy - I said nothing towards your comment’s points. We may not be an “obomination”, but we are led by them, and they will make decisions most will abore. I hope we don’t go against Isreal but all the indicators at present say we will.
As for getting someone else in the WH by other than conventional means, will do tremedous damage to this country - however, Hussein will not go peacefully for any reason, certainly not by an election - if one is ever held again.
UN Nations: Iran has nuclear technology for their future energy needs. Maybe they are just testing to see how much energy they can generate with a nuclear missile.

Gates: “The reality is there is no military option that does anything more than buy time,” Gates said. “The estimates are three years or so.”
?*?!*?*?!!*!! are we just giving up?
My rationale was that I think the Messiah needs a Wag the Dog time.
Or maybe a little coke jaunt with Ram Manual ?
LOL.
I'd rather see him pop like the pustule he is.
That works for me.
