PPP poll: Palinís favorability at 37/55 (Obama leads Palin by wide margin in head-to-head)
Hotair ^ | 9/26/2009 | Allahpundit

Posted on 09/27/2009 5:27:49 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Head-to-head with Obama, she’s steady from last month: He led her 52/38 in August and leads 53/38 now. But her favorables are in the toilet, dropping from 47/45 in July to 40/49 in August to … 37/55. The positive spin for Palin fans, I guess, is that the less the public sees of her, the worse she seems to do, which turns the conventional media wisdom on its head. Now that she’s reemerged to hit the lecture circuit, it’ll be interesting to see if she spikes up in October.

Another ominous trend: Her favorability among Republicans was higher last month than Huckabee’s even though he fared better against Obama overall (this month he trails by seven points after trailing in August by just three), but now he’s nudged past her even within the party.

He beats her among Republicans even in a hypothetical contest against Obama, winning 77 percent and losing just 13 while Palin tops out at 70 percent and loses 18. Even when you break it out by ideology, expecting the ‘Cuda to win big among conservatives, it’s a statistical wash:

Exit question: Where’s all the GOP Huck love coming from? Does he have that many fans of his Fox show? Or is he just drawing good vibes as the funny, genial southern guy, in contrast to the more polarizing personas of Palin and Romney?

America gets everything she deserves.

Given a choice today, the majority would choose Obama. That says a lot about where this nation is headed.

There's one huge difference between Reagan and Palin. Reagan stayed on as governor come hell or highwater. Sarah Palin QUIT without completing her term.

The positive spin for Palin fans, I guess, is that the less the public sees of her, the worse she seems to do, which turns the conventional media wisdom on its head.

That is probably because the media won't quite trying to tear her down. This is because they fear her mightily.

Yes and no. For polling purposes, Reagan was out of the limelight as a politician in the early 1970s and did a radio show every week. There's not much difference there. Moreover, I think any blowback from Palin "quitting" has long passed.

It's too early to tell if these kinds of numbers are "normal," or if they reflect her absence from the public eye for a month or two.

One thing we do know: Zero's numbers tend to dip when he IS in the public eye. I will grant you this, though: it's hard for someone to come back from sub-40 approval no matter what you do. It's possible---Nixon did it. But difficult.

Palin has several years to see whether she is the next Margaret Thatcher or Jean Kirkpatrick. So far, I am impressed with her reaganesque qualities. We need someone who is a leader of the conservative movement, not someone who toadies to every whim of the press or society. Right now I believe Palin is doing the right thing. Sitting in the background and saying accurate statements like “death panels” to rile up up and infuriate the leftist-marxists that control our media and White House. She needs to build up her gravitas (how I hate that word!) like she did in Hongkong last week criticizing the FEDS role in the economic meltdown.

Curious why Hot air would be siting the Democrat Party polling group.

Little cautionary tale about Conservatives and polls to the Freeper poll hypers.

Once upon a time their was an “arch Conservative” who was relentlessly attacked in the Dinosaur media as a reckless loose cannon. That man got the nomination for his party and all the polling data, all of it, said he was running neck and neck with the incumbent right up to election day.

That lose cannon won a 46 state landslide. The year is 1980, the man is Ronald Reagan.

Believe the polls at your own peril.

There are many more differences between Reagan and Palin, chief among them knowledge, not that I don’t like Sarah or that I think she is dumb. To give you an idea of how well Reagan handled television, take a look at some of the interviews he did from the 1960’s that are available on Youtube. He comes off quite well even back then.

As much as I like Palin she is done as far as being a presidential candidate. Her negatives are way to high, her leaving her job plus the family problems will do her in. She should be the voice of the party and conservatives but she won't go any higher.

Flame away but right now that is how I see it.

Now she can draw huge crowds, elect many pubbies and show the rats just what a great conservative female candidate looks like. And when the left gets tired of Barky and they trend to Hillary Sarah will be there to ruin her day as well.

It is interesting how her being out of the spotlight has hurt her polling. I’m assuming the plan has been to lay low until the book comes out. I wonder if that strategy will be adjusted.

Does anyone have word of her next public appearance?

The good news is, all Sarah Palin must do is win the primaries, and she can’t lose in the general election.
The bad news: Democrats can cross over and vote in Republican primaries, and they will never let Palin win the nomination that way.

SARAH has waaaaaaaaay more popularity than the liberal media wants to admit. She’s got supporters in all 50 states and around the world!

Apparently these people haven’t paid attention to how fast her Facebook page is growing. She is EXTREMELY popular! We will not let the RINOs at the RNC choose our candidate for us!

This just another bogus bs poll to fire up their base and try to get GOP'ers to nominate someone else...someone weaker...like McCain't, to run against the kenyan.

I don't think the kenyan will have it very easy next time, based on all the lies, the economy, and he will hit a brick wall on the b.c. thing if he tries to run again...that could put him in some serious trouble...he's a one termer unless we sit on our butts and let him pull a coup.

Agreed. Even though I like Sarah and am politically on the same page, she has been severely wounded - not killed, just severely wounded. She wasn't ready to be a VP nominee but McCain asked her and I believe she responded to the call of duty to country because that's the way she is.

It remains to be seen whether she can change people's minds. But even if she does not run for higher office, she can be a VERY effective proponent for conservative values and can very effectively lob grenades from the sidelines, forcing liberals to put up a defense or run for cover.

In August PPP polling oversampled PHD’s by 30% (based on 2008 exit polls) and depressed Palin’s numbers as her favorables/unfavorables with this group is 32/57. It was included in the statistical summary in August.

In September no info was provided on educational status in the summary but how much do you want to bet that PPP oversampled PHD’s by a sizeable amount this month as well.

About 1/2 the states have closed primaries with the remaining having some combination of closed/open. Open/Closed is a state process usually established by the Party, thus has to be dealt with on a state by state basis.
