Kirk calls on U.S. Census to sever ties to SEIU
Chicago Sun Times ^ | September 28, 2009 | ABDON M. PALLASCH Political Reporter

On the heals of a congressional vote to de-fund ACORN, U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) is calling on the U.S. Census to sever all ties to Illinois' largest union, the Service Employees International Union, because that union, Kirk says, is too close to ACORN.

Ah Kirk; the opportunistic RINO chimes in.

Now he tries to cover his vote in favor of Cap and Tax with this move.

Won't work Marky, you're going down in the Primary.

The GOP should be forming coalitions within to battle all these groups, bills, amendments and people in and around this administration, not just one here and one there. This goes deep and has tentacles that are far reaching. Do they really think there a shoo in come 2010 and 2012. We want to see serious concertive movement against the enemy before they regain our trust.

Bingo. By sheer coincidence, Kirk needs to win a primary for the first time in nine years and NOW he’s going after Acorn and attacking Obama for funding Libya? Interesting. So where was Kirk LAST year when we could have stopped Obama? If he was genuinely against Obama and had a consistent track record on that, sure I'd give him kudos for it even if he's wrong on other issues. But praise for his temporary faux “concern” about Obama’s corruption? No way.

Kirk's voting record from Jan. 2001 - July 2009 shows his true colors. The brief span of Sept. 2009 - Jan. 2010 will be a dog and pony show designed to make it past a primary with conservatives across the nation watching him like a hawk.

Sorry. Conservatives aren't buying your phony politically motivated actions, Marky. Everyone knows that once Feb '10 rolls around you'll be back kissing Hussein's ring again and gloating about how "independent" you are of the nasty right-wingers. Nice try, RINO.

That's an odd way to look at it. If Biden comes out against Cap and Trade, I'm supposed to not agree with him? If Obama drops ObamaCare I'm supposed to be for it because Obama dropped it?

Next year. ACORN was supposed to handle it, instead of the census dept(probably a constitution violation)but now they census has severed ties with ACORN due to the scandal they are involved in. SEIU has close ties to ACORN and now they are supposed to be involved in the census next year. Hopefully we can stop that also.

They have people going around checking on houses that are hard to find(backwoods areas), that way when the census starts they will be less likely to miss anyone. Most likely the people in that area didn’t like any government people snooping around(stills, pot etc).

Why does the government have to hire people to recruit people to sign up to vite? I understand some of the need 40 years ago, but now? Don’t the states have people to do that at the local registrar’s office. Don’t the various parties have volunteers? If people cannot figure out how to register, then maybe they shouldn’t be voting.

Those are invalid comparisons because Biden and Obama will never appease conservatives.

Kirk is clearly trying to save his ass. The man is beyond a RINO - he is more liberal than most Democrats in Congress. If you can't see this for what it is, then you have issues. You know if Kirk gets elected all of this will disappear and he'll go back to being a leftist.

I don't care what it is. He wants the SEIU cut down so I say good. That is all I said.

You know if Kirk gets elected all of this will disappear and he'll go back to being a leftist.

So dont' vote for him then. Right now the issue and the OP is about taking down the SEIU. Kirk wants to do that, great. Barney Frank wants to do that, great. Anyone wants to bring Andy Stern down gets my support while they do it. Attacking them on other stuff can wait until the other stuff is the topic.

BTW, should any Kirk apologists later cite Kirk's actions on ACORN as “proof” that he's “better than the Democrat”, please look where his RAT opponents stand on this issue. Both likely RAT nominee Alexi Giannoulias and lesser known RAT Senate candidate David Hoffman have gone on record saying they want to defend ACORN and believe the government should sever all ties with ACORN related activities. Cheryl Jackson is the lone Senate candidate from Illinois who has publicly said she'd vote against defunding ACORN, and that's because he base is black voters. Most Democrats are not crazy enough to defend ACORN in public:

Alexi Giannoulias, Democrat: De-fund ACORN. “State Treasurer Giannoulias would have voted with the majority of the U.S. Senate to defund ACORN,” said spokesman Tom Bowen. “He favors cutting off funding for ACORN, as he believes that all credible allegations of misspent taxpayer funds must be taken seriously”

So we have another issue where there's virtually no difference between Kirk and his likely RAT opposition. I believe Marky Mark and Alexi have about the same level of sincerity here in their “commitment” to keeping ACORN out of the government, which is none. It's an election year gimmick and both the RINOs and the RATs will go back to slavishly doing whatever Obama tells them to, once they get elected for a full six year term.

Kirk probably hopes that, during the primary, conservatives will remember what he did during the previous six months and forget that he’s usually pro-spending increases, pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, pro-illegal alien, and pro-gun control.

I agree if Kirk is strong on this issue we should welcome it even if he's a RINO on other issues. For example, many freepers despise John McCain but I do think McCain deserves credit for his years of opposition to pork barrel spending and his generally staunch support for winning the WOT. Likewise Congressman Chris Smith is a squishy cap n' trade RINO but he's ALWAYS been 100% solid on the life issue so I welcome his support during abortion battles.

The problem here is that Kirk's track record shows he is NOT good on this issue -- he's never stood up against Obama's corrupt ties in the past. As I and others have pointed out, it appears Kirk is NOT being sincere here and is only doing this to build up his "anti-Obama" and "anti-corruption" resume with conservatives so he woo them over in the primary after the fallout from his cap-n-trade vote. Once the primary is over, Kirk will go back to defending Obama and swooning over everything he does. Also as I noted earlier on this thread, Kirk's Chicago machine Democrat opponent likewise claims to be "in favor" of having the government sever all ties to ACORN and its associates. Anyone who knows anything about Alexi Giannoulias knows he's a close personal chum of Obama and knee deep in corruption. I'd trust him as far I could throw him.

Maybe you feel good temporarily having Kirk on "our side" against SEIU and ACORN, but don't get too cozy and expect him to "deliver" for us on standing up against RAT organization corruption as a U.S. Senator. You welcome Kirk, Giannoulias, or "Barney Frank" as you say, to help out on an issue because they're conveniently on "our side" today, and they'll betray you on that same issue tomorrow. Kirk cannot be trusted and his record proves it.
