Despite a planned rally in Albany Tuesday to protest a state regulation requiring health care workers be vaccinated against influenza both seasonal and swine flu New Yorks top public health official predicts dissenters will ultimately extinguish their anger and roll up their sleeves.

TAKE SHOTS OR BE FIRED.
Take the shot or get on the train.
I hope the vaccines are not dangerous. This is a terrible risk for the State to take with the bodies of free people. I bet they lose a lot of health care workers just when they need them most.
Well they aren’t free people so the problem is solved.
Well, I can think of one: that both were developed and manufactured by fallible human beings. Unless Dr. Farber's suggesting that the new vaccine was the result of divine intervention...?
save for later
So is it in their employment contract that they must take any innoculation that the state demands or be fired? Are these people guinea pigs?
> Are these people guinea pigs?
How stupid (or brainwashed) are these people that work under a union?
Good point. Aren’t they union?
Yes, I am not sure the State (employers) has immunity from law suits should employees be injured. The vaccine maker and the doctors and nurses who administer the vaccine have been made immune to law suits. That tells you something right there.
“Just Say NO !”...
Yep, we had a whole bunch of folks from a Senior housing complex get sick from a bad batch
It'd be a riot if someone rolled up their sleeve and socked their "top public health official" in the mouth.
and by the way luv2ndamend.... if you're taking SHOTS.... RETURN FIRE
government experimenting with government workers... where have we seen that before?
Sounds like they got a heck of a lot of lab rats.
I wonder how those contributions to Obambi are paying off. I would like to know how much big pharm. is making on this? Can you imagine the price tag for vaccines for the entire US would be?
Nods, my first thought as well, was what will NY do if the employees decide to leave, and find work elsewhere...
“Look, I’ll give you $100 if you just mark me as having gotten the shot. You have a chance to make some real money with 500,000 of us not wanted to get a shot. Whataya say, Comrade?”
Military, for one. I never did get that anthrax shot they said was mandatory.
It could be that some fascists are mistaking free Americans for peasants. I hope these empoloyees straighten them out on that.
LSD for one
Health care workers are needed across America. Pack it up, move. That’s what I would do. Forced vaccine? No way in hell.
From the link...
This week saw media reports of studies suggesting that getting the seasonal flu shot makes people more susceptible to H1N1 - unpublished data that influenced Ontario's decision to delay its seasonal flu shots.
Make it mandatory? Not when they don't know what they don't know...
Forcing vaccines on health care workers and first-responders in the event of a public health emergency is an absolutely justifiable practice - it’s the only way that they can prevent them from being carriers of a possibly deadly pathogen. If they don’t like it, they’re at liberty to quit.
See my profile page for another public health "emergency" that never materialized.
Has it proven to be safe?
Does the H1N1 vaccine contain known toxic substances?
Have the vaccine makers been indemnified against lawsuits if someone gets sick or dies?
Does the NY state government mandate violate personal freedom and liberty?
This is an outrageous assault on personal freedom.
There is no way in h*** I'll take this unproven potentially toxic vaccine. The "benefits" simply do not outweigh the risks.
Could always take the nasal spray... just DON’T inhale!
Are health care workers normally required to get flu shots? And if so, does refusal usually result in termination?
Kind of a BS argument. These people are exposed to “deadly pathogens” every single day. What makes this one so special?
ALBANY, N.Y. (September 28, 2009) - On Tuesday, September 29, at 2 p.m. in the Corning Tower 14th Floor Conference Room, State Health Commissioner Richard F. Daines, M.D., will hold a media availability and respond to questions about both the seasonal and H1N1 flu vaccines.
I've got a question: When was a health emergency declared?
One other observation: Fat lotta good belonging to a union does the rank-and-file...Again.
Right, like I said, I would quit and head South for a beautiful, warm winter. Let them eat cake.
In my experience, admittedly in a jurisdiction far from New York, the answer would be yes. They’re required to have many, many immunizations as a matter of course.
I have never heard of this mandatory thing.
the Unions should and most likely WILL back up any individual worker as the union doesn’t want bad PR for themselves. ha.
It’s not. Medical staff are routinely required to be immunized for all sorts of things:
There, for example is a list of the immunizations required at the Seattle Children’s Hospital. You’re looking for tyranny in something that’s merely prudent.
Moreover, it would take a long union battle to fire an employee who has passed their probationary period...
Well, good for you, but I imagine that Georgia, Florida, Texas, whatever will have the same requirement. Unless by “South” you mean to the clean and well-run hospitals of Mexico and Guatemala, of course.
The opponents also say its wrong that all five swine flu vaccine makers contracting with the federal government have been indemnified against lawsuits if someone gets sick or dies.
The makers of the vaccine cannot be sued, not sure if the state could be if it is a forced vaccination.
When they add the biochip tag requirement for proof of vaccination, get ready...
Uh no I don’t mean Mexico or Guatemala. There is a country that has excellent health care. Trump just built a new trump towers there.
This one containes squalene, mercury, and thermisol.
You can do a search on those ingredients if you’d like. I know I wouldn’t get it.
It looks like some adverse effects are starting to show up from the vaccine:
‘A Participant in the H1N1 vaccine trials has an adverse reaction and coughs up blood.’
It’s not unusual for some health care facilities to require vaccines including flu vaccines for their employees.
I have a sister that works in a nursing home and she had to get a yearly flu shot. One of my daughters works in a hospital and had to get some hepatitis vaccines, be up to date on all other vaccines and the yearly flu shot.
Employees are made aware of this when they are hired. If they do not like it they can choose not to work there. So nothing really new.
