Jerry Brown files papers to explore run for governor September 29, 2009 | 5:42 pm Jerry Brown dropped the fiction that he was seeking reelection as state attorney general and filed papers today to explore a run for governor, a job he first won in 1974 and has for months been fighting hard, if quietly, to recapture.

Brown’s move was born of necessity: Contributions to candidates for attorney general are capped at $6,500 per election for individual donors, but gubernatorial contestants can accept up to $25,900.

“If he chooses to run, it will make him more competitive against a deep-pocketed Republican opponent,” said Steven Glazer, a senior advisor to Brown, a Democrat.

Two of the three Republicans now running are multimillionaires.

Say what you want about Brown but he’s the last of the old-school Democrats.

Since Jerry Brown is gay,(ask any lobbyist in Sacto)and he disregarded voters on prop 8 in court, he doesn’t stand a chance.

Meg Whitman is a RINO. She is like Burris, one last straw in her cap.

Sick too that two women who never vote in elections are running in the republican camp.

These kind of people are exactly what leads to state and local politicians making ‘treaties’ with the UN. There is no legal authority over any of these people as they shun and mock the US Constitution at the same time wanting to be elected under its authority.

Hint: Fiorina and Whitman.

Corruption as far as the eye can see this day.

“The sad thing is, he’s probably going to win.”

I think he will win, but I think that is a good thing.

Brown is not corrupt (unlike the rest of his party).

Brown is an independent thinker.

California is unlikely to elect anyone better.

How can a socialist not be corrupt?I”m curious because everyone has to swear to support the Constitution.

You’re not trying to pretend he’s supported the Constitution in the past, are you?

And just to help you see clearly, he is initiating freedom stealing lawsuits as attorney general.

And none of this erases the disaster he left in Oakland.

Why would you support a ‘political class’ socialist politician? Why would you?

Moonbeam may not be corrupt, but that does not mean he is safe anywhere near a state budget. Many of the people responsible for California’s descent into near third world status are doubtless pure of heart and chockfull of good intentions, busilly manufacturing the paving stones to Hell.

There may be a silver lining here from a Texas point of view. We are seeing a HUGE influx of Californians attracted to jobs available here. Strangely our neanderthalic, fiscally conservative, right-to-work, anti-poorfolk state still has economic growth and a budget surplus with a “rainy day” fund.

Unfortunately, as voters, many of these ex-Californians seem inclined to push on Texas the same policies that managed to ruin California’s economy.

If Moonbeam wins, perhaps they will re-migrate to the promised land and take their liberal votes with them.

Jerry Brown served 2 terms as governor, from 1974 to 1982. When he was out of office, he claimed that he had become a centrist, but he showed his true colors when he became state AG. If you put a gun to my head, I would choose him over Gavin “Any Twosome” Newsom. I think Darrell Issa should run, or the guy from San Diego who ran for president, (whose name escapes me at the moment.)

Duncan Hunter, Sr. He’s retired now any way. He should run. Maybe a Draft Duncan Hunter for Governor campaign can start here.

Pete Wilson is who you are trying to remember.

I thought there was a two-term limit in California. That's why Arnold will not be running again. Was Brown grandfathered in on that?

I would prefer for a conservative to run against the ultraliberal Brown or Newsom. Brown was never a centrist, in spite of his support from Michael Weiner. He is the guy who appointed Rose Bird and a whole bunch of very crazy judges who we are still trying to get rid of. He nearly ruined the state. Once and for all, let's see if a conservative who in unapologetic and who can sell his policies can win in California. If not, time for the sane people to move.

Darn tootin! I guess he’s still a wacky leftist at heart, but he’s a credible candidate and appears from the public pronouncements (at least the ones I’ve heard) to have more integrity than the last two governors combined. Even better if he turned it into a three-way race.

The sad thing is, he’s probably going to win.

Because California is basically controlled by an insane electorate that love, love, loves Jerry Brown ...or because Arnold has turn the California GOP into the me-too party, making it impossible for a real reformer to win on the Republican ticket?

Obama’s corrupt. He’s a marxist ideologue and a liar who probably doesn’t want to go down without a big fight like Carter did. I figure that what staytrue might be getting at is that an honest marxist ideologue, while he may help plunge the state into more misery in the short run, will help to change attitudes towards big government in the long run. It’s bad enough to have a governor that claims to be a conservative or “fiscally conservative centrist” but already governs like a Brown. Kind of like saying you believe in capitalism and then complaining about “unfair trade” all the time.

I didn’t care for Pete Wilson because he was pro-abortion, but he was ahead of the curve on illegal immigration. Duncan Hunter is pro-life, a fiscal conservative, and he got the border fence built in San Diego.
