The White House unexpectedly decided to review its strategy in Afghanistan after a series of recent setbacks in the war, including allegations of fraud following last month's presidential elections and surging violence throughout the country. It begins just days after Gen. McChrystal submitted his request for as many as 40,000 additional troops to the Pentagon.
Some in the administration, notably Biden, have argued for a smaller military footprint and a tighter focus on counterterrorism as the best way forward.
Advocates of such a shift point to the effective use of Predator drone strikes to kill Taliban leaders in Pakistan. Two additional Predators are expected to be shifted soon to the region to patrol the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, according to people familiar with the decision, a move that would bring the total drones in the theater to a number the military has wanted for years.
Obama gave voice to a possible shift in emphasis on Tuesday when he spoke of "dismantling, disrupting, destroying the Al Qaeda network" as the mission, without mentioning the Taliban. He also said the U.S. is working with the Afghans to bring security to the country.

Hmmm... let’s see... somebody tried to do that whole Iraq war thing on the cheap and the libs didn’t seem to think that was such a good idea...they sure seemed upset about it at the time...
You don’t suppose they’ll remember that little lesson now, do you?
It doesn't work in peace either.
seeing how the demholes are intent on losing the war, best way to do that is unionize the military.
“The White House unexpectedly decided to review its strategy in Afghanistan after a series of recent setbacks in the war,”
Correction: The White House unexpectedly decided to review its strategy in Afghanistan after a series of well timed leaks sufficiently embarrassed the President into attempting to appear Presidential. He is not succeeding, but is contemplating another prime time press conference, creating a ‘teachable moment’ as he ‘rejects the notion’ that he’s been sitting on his arse instead of working.
Fixed it!

Before or after the junket to Copenhagen?
The president said something to the effect that he wanted to take his time on this to get it right. So why not do the same for all of the other garbage he is trying to shove down our throats? Why isn't Afghanistan an emergency that has to be done tomorrow or we will never have another chance and the world will end?
Forced into this ‘review’. But you can be sure O will be out of the office.

Will someone wake me up from this nightmare when its over!
That must be why he’s in Denmark, to get the benefit of that Danish counterinsurgency expertise. Maybe while he’s there, he can hit the links and help OJ find his ex-wife’s killer.
after the review, then commence the studies, followed by a commision...then, perhaps a press conference, some polls, a meeting to discuss the possibility of a new review (repeat cycle)
One place Barry can’t fake it is on the front line. He can’t afford to look like the jackass that he is. He’ll cut and run. Just watch...
What is disgusting about this whole thing is that we know something has to be changed, either increase the troops or pull out. Every day Obama waits to make a decision, or even consider a decision, American soldiers are dying needlessly. If we are currently losing this war then a change in strategy has to be made right now.
So, General McChrystal’s recommendation for more troops was made known to the White House a month ago...and we’re just NOW getting into a “strategy session”?
I’ll bet that our soldiers dying in Afghanistan love to see that they are second fiddle to the “World Obama Health Care Tour”, United Nations tomfoolery and the Olympics.
Didn’t Obama claim to sign off on a new plan this past March when he decided to send 20,000 more troops to Afghanistan? So, if he’s debating a new war strategy isn’t he just rethinking his Plan A?
A day late and most definately will be a dollar short. Bet.
