Margaret Thatcher airbrushed from Harriet Harman's history of women in politics
The Daily Telegraph UK ^ | 15 Sep 2009 | Andrew Pierce

Posted on 09/30/2009 4:20:09 PM PDT by SmokingJoe

The paper, Women in Power: Milestones, listed 28 of the most significant events between 1907 and 2008 involving women on the political stage.

The milestones included the election of the first female Head of Government – Sirimavo Bandaranaike, the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka in 1960 and Britain's first woman councillor Reina Emily Lawrence in 1907.

The document, produced by the Equality Office which is run by Miss Harman, the deputy leader of the Labour Party, highlights the role of Nancy Astor who was the first woman to take her seat in parliament in 1919, the election of Dianne Abbott the first black woman MP in 1987, and victory in 1999 of Neena Gill the UK’s first Asian female MEP.

But there is no mention of Lady Thatcher becoming the first female leader of a British political party when she replaced Edward Heath in 1975, or the fact that she was the longest serving prime minister in the 20th century, and won three general election victories.

The only reference to her is: “1979: UK’s first woman Prime Minister.” But her name is pointedly omitted. By contrast Shreela Flather is mentioned twice as the first Asian woman councillor and first Asian woman peer. Britain’s first black woman mayor Lydia Simmons is also given a name check.

Did Harriet Harman put her own name on the list?

She is Deputy Leader and Party Chair of the Labour Party.

She is also Minister for Women and Equality.

Propaganda is just as powerful by what’s omitted as what is published. Our State Run Media are masters at propaganda.

What's Miss Harriet ever done in her life to compare with Maggie's accomplishments?”

What has she ever done?
It's more like what hasn't she ever done. Here are some priceless quotes from the female in question.

Harriet Harman : “the Labour leadership “team” should always comprise a man and a woman.
“Men cannot be left to run things on their own,” she mused. “I think it’s a thoroughly bad thing to have a men-only leadership.”

Another great quote from her:
“Someone said that if it has been Lehman Sisters instead of Lehman Brothers, there might not have been so much difficulty”.

Believe it or not, this woman is the Deputy Leader and Party Chair of the British Labour Party (the party that has been in power for over 10 years). She is also The Leader of the House of Commons (aka Parliament, kinda like our House of Reps).

Typical of the left's intellectual honesty... the Teaparty and Townhall protest were "fake", 9/12 Wash DC march was not that big/didn’t happen

And if Palin gets elected first US female President.. that will not exist in the left history of the world

Harman has received criticism for her perceived negative views of fathers and dislike of families particularly from the right wing and conservative press. Erin Pizzey criticised the views expressed by Harman and other leading female Labour figures in the 1990 IPPR report "The Family Way". Writing in the Daily Mail, she accused the report of being a "staggering attack on men and their role in modern life" as a result of her stating "it cannot be assumed that men are bound to be an asset to family life or that the presence of fathers in families is necessarily a means to social cohesion".

In June 2008, two members of Fathers 4 Justice, Mark Harris and Jolly Stanesby, staged a protest on the roof of her house in Herne Hill, south east London. Harris and Stanesby displayed a banner that read: "A father is for life not just conception." After they climbed back off the roof they were arrested by the Metropolitan Police and bailed until 16 July 2008.[34] On the morning of 9 July 2008, another Fathers 4 Justice protest began on the same roof. Nigel Ace and Tony Ashby displayed a banner reading "Stop war on dads."[35] One of the complaints of the protesters was that Harman had refused their requests for a meeting yet she denied that they had even requested such a meeting.[36] In response, Fathers 4 Justice founder Matt O'Connor stated he approached Harman for a meeting via his MP, Mark Oaten but was rejected.

As part of a proposed Equality Bill, Harman announced a consultation on changing the existing discrimination laws, which included options for Reverse Discrimination in employment. Under the proposals, employers would be legally allowed to discriminate in favour of a job candidate on the basis of their race or gender where the candidates were otherwise equally qualified. Employers would not be required to use these powers, but would be able to do so without the threat of legal action for discriminatory practices. Harman has stated that this proposal would not simply involve discrimination against white males, and that men will benefit in some circumstances; for example if a school wanted to balance a predominantly female workforce by discriminating in favour of employing a male teacher.[49] The white paper also proposed measures to end age discrimination, promote transparency in organisations and introduce a new equality duty on the public sector.[50] These changes, if made, could face a challenge under Article 14 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, race, color, language, religion and on several other criteria.[51] Michael Millar, writing in The Spectator was of the opinion that, "The Equality Bill before parliament today gives employers the right to choose an ethnic minority candidate or female candidate over a white male, specifically because they are an ethnic minority or female."

Stop calling her ‘Harriet HarMAN’ you male, sexist pig. The correct way to refer to her is ‘Harriet Harperson’.

She is a hot tip to win the Labour leadership contest following the inevitable downfall of Gordon Brown at the next election, and I for one hope they do put that metaphorical shotgun in their collective mouths and pull the trigger, because with Harridan Harperson in charge, Labour is doomed to lose the election after that as well....
