All one needs to know about the case of Roman Polanski is that Woody Allen is among those who signed the Hollywood petition for releasing Polanski.
In 1976, Polanski got a 13-year-old girl drunk, gave her a Quaalude and then raped her. After he pleaded guilty to the crime, Polanksi fled the country.
This week, the Obama administration pushed the Swiss government to arrest him in hopes of sending him to the United States to face the music.
Of course Allen sees nothing wrong with Polanksi's behavior. Allen's preference for the daughter of his girlfriend - indeed, the step-sister of two of his children - made him the object of scorn for a while in Hollywood. Now, all is forgiven.
Polanski is said by his peers to be a great director. So is Allen. So is Martin Scorsese, who also signed the petition. So are Pedro Almodovar, Jonathan Demme, John Landis and David Lynch, who also signed the petition. Everyone in Hollywood these days is a great director except Ed Wood.

Last night on Fox’s OReily, Dennis Miller said...”Read the 13 year old girls testimony and you cannot feel sorry for this man.”
Is that document available on the net?
He belongs in HELL. Just my opinion, since I won’t be deciding that.
It amazes me that people support him. Every one of their justifications are weak too.
I had a friend say “he has to live with what he did every day.” I had to remind him that from the people who are supporting him no one in his peer group thinks he did anything wrong. Living with what you did involves feeling shame about it. If there is nothing wrong with what you did in your society, you don’t feel shame for it. He wasn’t suffering any ill effects.
Does anyone believe altruistic motives can be applied to Obama?...
..OR ulterior motives IMO to bring Polanski to America and finally free him.
Either case, the author of this piece makes a good point about Polanski vs priest.
I heard him say that too. To me it wouldn’t matter what he did or didn’t do, before, during or after. He had sex with a 13 year old and that’s enough for me. Throw him in jail and throw away the key. If he did it to her and got away with it all these years. I won’t believe for one minute, he didn’t do it to some other young girls.
Amen to that one!!!!
Polanski’s defenders are giving a huge gift to resurgent conservatism.
The culture war is on, the lines are clearly drawn between good and evil.
Joy Behar versus Ann Coulter - an opening skirmish between the two sides.
The dominant culture in Hollywood and Washington illustrates an old saying - the line between arrogance and stupidity is an extremely fine one.
I doubt that Polanski was on Obama's mind at all. Sounds more like the Swiss and French governments tossing a stinkbomb at Zero.
Besides, this wasn't a federal case - if anyone is going to let Polanski off the hook, it'd have to be Arnold.

Bottom of the page there are 2 links to the girl's grand jury testimony - get ready to be sick. Gave me nightmares. Don't say you weren't warned.
I read the grand jury testimony posted on The Smoking Gun.
You can access it at http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/polanskicover1.html
Hang him. By his - um - unmentionables.
“Let me be the first to congratulate President Obama on this move. In a sea of administrative ineptitude, Obama found a righteous wave.... : )”
Let me get this straight, Obama was able to “push” the Swiss government for the release of a rapist who happens to be a Hollywood elite. I might also add that there was influence used to release the two liberal Asian-American girls from North China. However, Obama had no influence over the release of Al Megrahi the bomber of PA103 over Lockerbie. The only music Polanski will face is a little Kanye West.
A little Old Testament treatment may be in order here.
Polanski is on record saying that he thought it was OK to do what he did because nobody was hurt.
So, hire someone to do the same thing to him with someone he is scared of, powerless against and unwilling to participate with and see if he still holds that opinion.
*Then* throw him in jail for the rest of his life.
ONE more reason to stop watching Hollywood filth - our money supports these creeps.
“They define a republic to be a government of laws, and not of men.”—John Adams, Novanglus No 7,1775.
It’s the moral climate there. One’s own children are underage, everybody else’s are available. Sometimes even one’s own (Mackenzie Phillips) can be worked in.
They are accustomed to this, it’s all around them and they spend years getting their consciences rubbed smooth, to stay in good with their neighbors and co-workers. This defense of Polanski is just some additional buffing in over-response to the discovery of an apparent blemish they were hoping no one noticed.
He needs to do some hard time and as far as I'm concerned for a LONG time.
Yes. Obama uses his “influence” only when it benefits the enemy or a criminal. The Lockerbie/Scottish incident was not one of those moments.
If these celebrities read the grand jury testimony they would have kept silent. They are going to be highly embarrassed if Polanski is brought to the US and the details of the rape are publicized. You can’t in any way defend the rape of a 13 year old, particularly when it involved drugs, alcohol and forced anal sex.
At first I felt sorry for him after his wife Sharon Tate got killed by Manson but I got older. No excuses. Tate must be rolling in her grave.
I mean that is sick. Druging and raping a little girl like that.
“people support him. Every one of their justifications are weak too”
It’s the old abuse syndrome. Instead of the patient getting better, taking responsibility for their life and what happened to them, they wallow in their self pity and demand that others pity them or also suffer what they suffered.
This is coming from people who live lives of the utmost depravity and don’t want to be judged.
